Food is absolutely incredible; great variety on offer and all good portion sizes., fresh and authentic. It's a little on the expensive side, but really worth it. The Rhosecco sparkling wine is also beautiful.
Good with friends nice staff and good Greek food and wines
Amazing authentic Greek food - the meat was absolutely delicious.
Service was perfect too and the venue despite small’ish is lovely.
It’s not expensive, but it’s not super cheap.
We had a really lovely meal here. My husband has a couple of allergies and they were so friendly and welcoming and catered for him superbly. Delicious food, great ambience, wonderful service
George and the staff took great care of us! Delicious, authentic Greek food, straight from the motherland. Doesn’t get much better than Hungary Donkey
On a visit to London from New York, we stopped in for dinner. Everything was really great! I loved the food, the staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. I’d 100% recommend the Hungry Donkey to friends visiting the area. I will be back for sure!
Cramped, or elbows touched the people at the next table. One fantastic waitress but ridiculously understaffed. And over priced. 2 drinks each and 5 tapas to share, £90
I do love this place as I love Greek food. The Greek tapas style menu is up my street as I like a choice, however, you can go for more of a main meal style too so everyone is happy. On the negative side it does work out quite expensive as a large wine for example is actually a medium priced as a large and the tapas can soon add up before you know it. On the positive the food is very good, they have good drinks choices, there is outside seating for a nice day. I would recommend for special occasions or a treat.
Good choice of Greek food and value for money. Souvlaki was excellent. Friendly and helpful staff.
Friendly staff, good quality food and value for money. Will be back soon :)
Bit noisy, but that was the other people thinking that shouting is an acceptable way of conversing!
Service quick, food tasty and tender, good wine..friendly waiting staff. Top local eatery
This place was a great little find. Great food and wine. Would recommend for any one in the area looking for some great value food.
What a lovely restaurant! Food is very good and fresh, staff are excellent.
The food was very good, I had chosen Hungry Donkey because it offered a wide choice of vegetarian options and wasn't disappointed!
Service was also good, but we were one of three couples in the whole restaurant and were all sat next to each other, so close it felt like we were on a group date. A bit off putting when the rest of the restaurant was completely empty!
The Hungry donkey was the most authentic and delicious Greek restaurant I have been to in London. The staff were amazing, the restaurant was warm and the smell was unforgettable. Definitely will be returning again as it ticked all the boxes!
Very disappointing. Despite booking a table , we were made to sit at a tiny breakfast bar that overlooked another table and was right next to the pass - so staff were standing right on top of us all night. There was another table for two available but we couldn't sit there as they were 'fully booked'. A walk-in party were able to sit there though? The food was ok but the selection of dips is very overpriced and my friend's chicken souvlaki was undercooked. She ordered cheesecake for dessert - it appeared to have just been taken out of the freezer. The base was so hard that she couldn't cut through it without it crumbling everywhere. Plates were taken away incredibly quickly and the whole thing felt like they were hurrying us out. I love Greek food but I won't be coming back here.
Nice appetisers and wine. But the vegetarian stuffed pepper was terrible.
Maybe they should tone dine the lighting for a bit more atmosphere,
A little gem with proper Greek street food, Greek wine and Greek beer - no frills, no fuss, attentive and friendly service. My wife and I ordered various mezedes including Melitzanosalata and Keftedakia and a Greek salad. The smoky aubergine was perfect and the minty dip with the meatballs was just right. As to the wine and beers - I wish we were able to get such a selection in Greece - and very well kept! Very pleased indeed to have such a restaurant in our locality.
I'm a returning customer. The lamb wrap is definitely worth going back for, and a great excuse to try something new on the menu.
We went to this restaurant for my wife's birthday, blinded by the dazzling reviews we found online. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a terrible idea. To start with the positives, the staff were very polite and attentive, but this was pretty much where the goodness ended.. The food was really substandard and overpriced.. £1.50 for one piece of bread (10x5cm) cut in four tiny pieces, £3.50 for terribly tasting (too much herbs and overcooked!) chips that would maybe go down ok in a pub, but not so much in greek cuisine, and £15 for two souvalakis that were so dry (the bread was too thick and there was hardly any sauce in the souvalakis) that it nearly made me cry. I was sad to have ruined my wife's special day by taking her here just to be served food that does not resemble the actual food served in Greece. I once spent a month in Athens and ate souvalakis nearly everyday, so I know what they are supposed to be taste like. I just so wish we went somewhere else that day. It finished with £50 less in my wallet and stomach pain.
Delicious food, friendly and polite staff. The only negative being the price as for 2 adults and a kid we paid £77.
We loved our meal at Hungry Donkey. The service was really friendly and the food hot and fresh. You have to order the halloumi! We’d definitely return next time we’re in the area.
Fantastic food, living with a half Greek it has to be up to scratch and it certainly was!!! Traditional food.. Now the ambience could be better but don't let this put you off, we'd be back in a flash. Maybe better music or less cafe style tables and chairs but hey now just being fussy. Book a table now.
Good Greek Food - would return! Very filling and good quality
We had a wonderful time, waiter was attentive and knew his stuff. Can’t wait to go back
Food was delicious, came quickly and great value! We also had a lovely glass of red wine
The food was tasty and the service was prompt and efficient.
Best Greek food I ever had in London! People there are very friendly and great value for money
Unexpected gem just a short walk from Shoreditch.
Do not be put off by the area, food is lovely and enough options to please everyone!
Great friend service and delicious food
Amazing food and service at a reasonable price. Would definitely visit again!
Nice food if a bit pricey. I had 3 small plates for £20, though they were very good. Quite bright.
The restaurant was fine but it was strange them mentioning they didn't have a reserve for 5 as were supposed to. Lucky for us there were tables available, but you should definitely check your system.
Really amazing food and service, great atmosphere, lovely in general. Would go again.
Incredible food, simple nice atmosphere. Great service. Just what we were looking for! There are also great vegan options which is not easy to find. Overall very accomodating, professional service.
Lovely wait staff and a good atmosphere. Nice to be able to dine outside without being near any roads but with the quiet hum of Petticoat Lane market. The food is very filling so worth sharing some of the dishes to help keep the cost down. All delicious though and a nice change from the traditional Sunday pub lunch.
On holiday in London for our 40th anniversary. We thought we would like to have some Greek food for our anniversary meal. By chance, the Hungry Donkey was ten minutes' walk from where we were staying and we went there. It was the best decision we could have made as we had the best meal there while we were away. Superbly cooked food!
Really authentic Greek food
We loved Hungry Donkey! Authentic Greek food and a proper Greek wine list. Very friendly and helpful service. It is great to be able to sit outside away from a main road and we enjoyed the quiet buzz of Petticoat Lane market on a Sunday afternoon. The decor feels a bit cafe-ish rather than fine dining but everything we ate was excellent. A treat.
The food was really good. Some traditional Greek dishes and really good cheese. There were a lot of veggie mezze choices. It is a bit loud so would recommend the outdoor seating area when the weather is nice.
