Authentic good Italian food and wine. Great dinner with my wife
Table booked for 2pm, arrived bang on time. By 2.10pm we were being pressured to choose our food as the kitchen was about to close. Starters arrived promptly, mains arrived as we were still eating the starters because the kitchen had to close. At no point in the online booking process was there any indication that food had be ordered by 2.15pm and that it had to be on the table by 2.30pm. The waiter was somewhat apologetic but this is shocking customer service. I was then charged £13 per glass for two glasses of red wine - the waiter asked whether I wanted a light or full bodied red and I said full but at no point did he show me the relative costs of these choices and certainly didn't highlight that I'd made an expensive choice. I accept that I should have clarified the cost of my choice and clearly took my eye off the ball given the pressure we were under to order the food. Ever felt you've been had? I do. What should have been a relaxed leisurely lunch turned out to be exactly the opposite.
Fantastic food and atmosphere, a lovely experience
A Very enjoyable experience. Informal yet attentive environment in which to spend an evening.
Always a satisfying evening when dining at Il Portico.
Staff does not seem to care about customers. Food is either bland or over seasoned.
I was advised to go to Il Portico by a colleague. It is a lovely posh neighbourhood restaurant with a sedate atmosphere. The waiters knew most of the elderly Kensington residents who came in while I was there. I found it slightly difficult to find a light lunch meal on the menu as I wasn't in the mood for pork belly with my pasta but they were very kind and made us a plain tomato sauce pasta.
The service was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. The recommendations for food and wine was spot on.
Came here for my boyfriend’s birthday and it was perfect! The service was top notch and the food was something we talked about long after it was completely consumed.
fab traditional italian with table cloths, lovely place for a chat with friends
When arrived at the restaurant we were greeted immediately with smiles and friendliness, we were seated even though we are about 15-20 minutes early for a reservation. The staff is friendly, helpful, and overall excellent. We highly recommend this wonderful Italian restaurant while visiting London. The food was so good. The duck was cooked to perfection and the pasta was fresh and fabulous.
This is always a great local... a perennial favourite that happily keeps on going. Warm and friendly staff and delicious food, thanks guys.
We could sense that there was no interest by the staff to make us feel like home. Service was expeditive. Red wine was to warm. Very commercial. You could find much better italian in London. This is a has been place.
Busy evening, restaurant was full. Very quick service. Food was excellent, but a bit pricey!
GREAT everything! This was our 'regular' visit whenever we are in London, and continues to exceed all our expectations.
I liked this place. Simple Italian cooking, friendly and quick service. My only disappointment was the lack of any game on the menu!
Splendid Italian friendliness, great evening .
Food very good as well
Since moving away from London we only get to visit IL Portico once or twice a year. Always excellent , Veal chop and Calves liver outstanding, Pinot Grigio as it should be. An outstanding Family owned local restaurant.
Great Ambient and food wonderful host , would defiantly must do again east to reach very close to high street Kingston station
Good food, but expensive to be italian. Not the best service the day we were there, they seemed uninterested.
Excellent food and service, I had the calf’s liver it really need to come with some kind of vegetable or salad, but it was excellent otherwise
A real gem, hard to find a proper Italian sometimes. This is one. Great food and authentic service.
Great place! Lovely place, lovely food, and really love atmosphere! Will be back for sure
Love il Portico as soon as you go through the door you feel your in Italy. Service is tops and food consistently good. Had my Dover Sole and it was delicious and the pasta is always excellent. It’s great for s Romantic meal for two or business or a special occasion . Will be back .
James and his team always deliver! Our favourite London restaurant for 6 years.
It is my favorite restaurant in London. Superb food and great service.
Excellent evening spent at Il Portico, staff were very attentive and friendly, food was excellent. Would highly recommend.
Awesome place with friendly staff, happy days, rock on next year 🍻🍷😁x
Traditional Italian restaurant with friendly, knowledgeable staff. High quality ingredients and well presented.
A good place for quiet discussion over a glass of wine and a tasty meal.
Fantastic restaurant authentic Italian food and great waiting staff we will definitely come again
We loved the restaurant! Great food, great service and everyone was so friendly and helpful! We will definitely return!
Food was outstanding as usual. Staff is great!
Great service, lovely food and great wine list! Can't wait to return!
Superb food, amazingly friendly staff, a knowledgeable owner and good wine. Nothing more to say about this family run restaurant apart from we drive for an hour to try this restaurant and it didn't disappoint...... Apart from the cold draft that hit the two of us that were sitting with our backs against the wall. Not ideal on a cold, wet winters evening which is what brought the score down but that is the only negative I can think of. We'll be back!
A lovely 'ristorante', great service and delicious food! Good for a quiet Friday night supper.
Smallish restaurant with an excellent selection of food and wine at reasonable prices (by London standards) and a vibrant atmosphere. The staff are very friendly, courteous, knowledgable about the food and wine pairings; nothing is too much trouble! I ate their last Saturday (March 2) with friends for a multiple birthday celebration and all agreed that we would return and recommend to friends. The Gavi was almost too good to share! The Saltimboca al la Romana (excuse spelling) was divine, as were the pasta dishes. The deli board starter was delicious; we think that two boards between three is probably enough for most folk. The only problem in singing it’s praise is that it may be harder to get a table in future!
Lovely food; great ambience; we have been going for years and continue to love it
Lovely welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Dishes beautifully presented and with a great balance of flavours. Wine good quality and affordable. Nice to be offered a taster of an unfamiliar red.
Absolutely delicious home cooked Italian food in a charming, traditional setting.
