Amazing food and fantastic service. The ambience was great for our group as we wanted to talk to each other and the ambience was perfect for that.
My group loved the service as it had a personal touch to this place and was very grateful that I found this place.
Tiny, small menu, extremely noisy, tables too close together, food mediocre, dingy alley location.
The food is fabulous. Very fresh and delicious.
Host/owner has a wonderful personality. Service is polite, professional but friendly !
Hidden gem - great food - great service
Found this little hideaway gem in the back alleys of St. James and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed and in fact the experience was above and beyond my lofty expectations. Excellent food, casual yet elegant ambience, attentive service and a solid wine list made for a very enjoyable evening of culinary exploration. Authentic flavors of Italy served with style and flair equally perfect for business entertaining or a date or any other special occasion. From top to bottom the food shone through as high quality and well presented. A resounding 5 star recommendation.
By and large the occasion was excellent and the owner was charming. My only complaint is the portion size for the cost of the meal. I have no issue with the quality which was good
The food was very nice but not hot and we didn’t have time to wait for another serving. The staff were lovely and it had a nice feel, but £6.50 for half a dozen olives and some bread which were on the table ( we didn’t know there was a charge) was way too much and £17 a head for tepid pasta and said bread and olives was over the top even for Central London.
Disappointing. Good first and second courses, and pasta. Limited wine list, and one of those out of stock. Offered another at same price, then mistakenly tried to charge the higher price. Limited choice of desserts. Prices for wines and desserts in restaurant higher than menu on line, and fewer desserts available. Did not recognise an Open Table cheque.
Great location in secluded passageway off St James'. Delightful food, ambiance and service. Will definitely return.
Very friendly family run restaurant on a quiet alleyway. The food was outstanding. Very accommodating to our 2 children.
The food here was delicious and the service was great! Everything is homemade by the owner and his chefs - pasta, tiramisu, panna cotta, limoncello - all homemade! You can feel the passion for the food and restaurant here. The owner made sure we were happy and was very accommodating with my daughter's allergies. We loved the family run feel and personalized service we received. It was a great recommendation from a friend and we will definitely be back!
Consistently excellent food, and fantastic service from a family-owned restaurant that really cares about their diners' experience!
If authentic Italian food, with personal service, is what you want look no further! We have been coming to Il Vicolo for many years and have never been disappointed. Listen closely to the daily specials.... they are superb! A must visit for good food and good ambiance!
Tables very cramped. Food very average. Ambience canteenish
Fantastic food and ambiance as usual
Excellent food, lovely wine, discreet service, ambient 50s' jazz playing in the background - Il Vicolo is the best place to eat if you're looking for a soothing experience combined with wonderful dishes.
Lovely family run local Italian in a passage in St. James’s London - very authentic cuisine.
The wait staff was very nice, however the upholstered chairs were clearly dirty which gave a feeling of uncleanliness to the entire restaurant.
Also, they had no salad dressing other than vinegar.
Wonderful food and wine, and terrific specials. Truly a neighbourhood gem!
Charming, low key and very Italian. Tucked away and all the better for it. The food was superb - the owner came over and told us the specials - tagliatelle with truffles. I ordered it and the perfectly cooked pasta was topped with an entire sliced up truffle - unbelievably good value for £23.
Husband had veal with pasta - daughter same as me but with a (I think) wild boar ragout.
Couldn’t fault this little piece of foodie heaven!
Amazing meal and great service!! ❤️❤️
Had a wonderful traditional Italian meal with fantastic service! Will be back for sure.
Second time here and will be back. Small family run place with great Italian food.
Fantastic food. Spaghetti with Crab was delicious.
We arrived quite late but staff were very pleasant and efficient. The food was a bit expensive but very tasty
Very good Italian food. Restaurant itself requires updating though.
Il Vicolo is a great Italian restaurant, in an amazing central location. A fantastic hidden gem. The menu was great, with lots of choice, and all based on authentic Italian cuisine. The people were very friendly and helped us select some great choices. The price was highly reasonable, and much less than I'd expect to pay in Central London of this quality
The food was delicious, packed with flavour and the perfect amount. The service was very friendly and attentive. It was a great pleasure having lunch there.
We met a friend and treated her to lunch. Service was efficient, food good and hot. Rather a noisy place but with a great atmosphere. Unfortunately we didn’t notice until later that we’d been overcharged and, as visitors for the day, there was nothing we could do about it. All in all, it was a pleasant occasion but expensive.
Delicious home cooked food, relaxed atmosphere and great location.
Dinner is not served until 6:30 so even when you make a 6pm reservation the kitchen is not open. Just be aware of this before theatre which starts at 7:30.
food is perfect- a rare, family-run Italian in central London
This place is pretty good but I would not say amazing. The ambience was a little lacking and the place could use a refurbisment.
The patron and his family really make an effort to look after you and the service is excellent. The food has never disappointed and the wines are good value for money. It’s always a pleasurable experience whether lunch or supper and the clientele is appropriately eclectic.
The restaurant lacks any kind of atmosphere-when walking you in you wouldn’t know you were in an Italian restaurant. Service, although friendly, was painfully slow - we had to continually chase up drinks and side dishes. Food was good but two of the party had an upset tummy during the night following the meal. They did nothing to entice us to return which is such a shame because it’s in a fabulous location and it could be a super restaurant - sadly not in the way it’s run presently.
We were 3 friends getting together as we do every 6 months. We were made to feel very welcome by a lovely staff. Italian food was very good. Particularly the pastas. The owner was particularly friendly and obviously looked after his staff well. We will be going back.
In London for 10 days and had 3 perfect meals here. We love this place and the owner Jacomo. Thank you for the wonderful food and hospitality!
This gem of a find is fantastic! Finally found authentic Italian food in
London! Make this a must on your trip or night out.
food was good but service was very slow. Seemed like they were short on staff that night. People arriving after we did received had their order taken and received their meal before we did. Server and owner were both very pleasant and the owner did offer after dinner drink because of the delay.
Love it here. This was our 3rd visit to Il Vicolo. We love the location, the authentic Italian food and the comraderie of the family and staff who work here. Very welcoming. This will certainly not be our last visit to Il Vicolo.
