Fantastic food and ambiance as usual
Excellent food, lovely wine, discreet service, ambient 50s' jazz playing in the background - Il Vicolo is the best place to eat if you're looking for a soothing experience combined with wonderful dishes.
Lovely family run local Italian in a passage in St. James’s London - very authentic cuisine.
The wait staff was very nice, however the upholstered chairs were clearly dirty which gave a feeling of uncleanliness to the entire restaurant.
Also, they had no salad dressing other than vinegar.
Wonderful food and wine, and terrific specials. Truly a neighbourhood gem!
Charming, low key and very Italian. Tucked away and all the better for it. The food was superb - the owner came over and told us the specials - tagliatelle with truffles. I ordered it and the perfectly cooked pasta was topped with an entire sliced up truffle - unbelievably good value for £23.
Husband had veal with pasta - daughter same as me but with a (I think) wild boar ragout.
Couldn’t fault this little piece of foodie heaven!
Amazing meal and great service!! ❤️❤️
Had a wonderful traditional Italian meal with fantastic service! Will be back for sure.
Second time here and will be back. Small family run place with great Italian food.
Fantastic food. Spaghetti with Crab was delicious.
We arrived quite late but staff were very pleasant and efficient. The food was a bit expensive but very tasty
Very good Italian food. Restaurant itself requires updating though.
Il Vicolo is a great Italian restaurant, in an amazing central location. A fantastic hidden gem. The menu was great, with lots of choice, and all based on authentic Italian cuisine. The people were very friendly and helped us select some great choices. The price was highly reasonable, and much less than I'd expect to pay in Central London of this quality
The food was delicious, packed with flavour and the perfect amount. The service was very friendly and attentive. It was a great pleasure having lunch there.
We met a friend and treated her to lunch. Service was efficient, food good and hot. Rather a noisy place but with a great atmosphere. Unfortunately we didn’t notice until later that we’d been overcharged and, as visitors for the day, there was nothing we could do about it. All in all, it was a pleasant occasion but expensive.
Delicious home cooked food, relaxed atmosphere and great location.
Dinner is not served until 6:30 so even when you make a 6pm reservation the kitchen is not open. Just be aware of this before theatre which starts at 7:30.
food is perfect- a rare, family-run Italian in central London
This place is pretty good but I would not say amazing. The ambience was a little lacking and the place could use a refurbisment.
The patron and his family really make an effort to look after you and the service is excellent. The food has never disappointed and the wines are good value for money. It’s always a pleasurable experience whether lunch or supper and the clientele is appropriately eclectic.
The restaurant lacks any kind of atmosphere-when walking you in you wouldn’t know you were in an Italian restaurant. Service, although friendly, was painfully slow - we had to continually chase up drinks and side dishes. Food was good but two of the party had an upset tummy during the night following the meal. They did nothing to entice us to return which is such a shame because it’s in a fabulous location and it could be a super restaurant - sadly not in the way it’s run presently.
We were 3 friends getting together as we do every 6 months. We were made to feel very welcome by a lovely staff. Italian food was very good. Particularly the pastas. The owner was particularly friendly and obviously looked after his staff well. We will be going back.
In London for 10 days and had 3 perfect meals here. We love this place and the owner Jacomo. Thank you for the wonderful food and hospitality!
This gem of a find is fantastic! Finally found authentic Italian food in
London! Make this a must on your trip or night out.
food was good but service was very slow. Seemed like they were short on staff that night. People arriving after we did received had their order taken and received their meal before we did. Server and owner were both very pleasant and the owner did offer after dinner drink because of the delay.
Love it here. This was our 3rd visit to Il Vicolo. We love the location, the authentic Italian food and the comraderie of the family and staff who work here. Very welcoming. This will certainly not be our last visit to Il Vicolo.
I went to Il Vicolo with some business colleagues who had previously eaten there and loved it, and now I know why. Located on Crown Passage off St. James's Park, you might miss this gem if you don't venture off the main road. Giacomo and his staff put a lot of love (and quality) into their food and hospitality. I highly recommend the gnocchi with lamb ragú--and Il Vicolo.
A great place for a quiet, romantic meal. The service cordial and friendly; the food was outstanding. We went with the off menu specials and were well rewarded.
Excellent venue for a special occasion that was great for a variety of ages. The service was brilliant and the food exceptional
Wonderful find down a small alley! Food was delicious and the father/daughter staff provided excellent and personable service. Will look for this restaurant when we return.
Quiet. Excellent food and warm service. Visiting from Texas and a friend referred us.
Great place with truly italian food and service. The owner is so friendly that it seems you know him gor years.. really quite and clean. We liked it so much!
Three friends and I enjoyed an outstanding lunch. We selected partly from the menu and partly from the specials of the day. All three courses were excellent, as was the Pinot Grigio to accompany them. The service was excellent, both from the proprietor and from his daughter, who was waiting in the restaurant during her holidays.
a new discovery for me of an excellent Italian restaurant tucked away in St. James. wonderful tasty food, and a very warm welcome from Giacomo!
This was my first visit to Il Vicolo and it was thoroughly enjoyable. All guests enjoyed their food, the fish was delicious and the calf's liver was so tasty. There was a good range of daily specials and the service was spot on.
We ate here earlier in the year when the owner was present and we liked the table, the food and the service so much that we decided to return which we did. However, having booked on Open Table a number of weeks ago, I stipulated on the reservation that we would like the same table in front of the window. When we arrived the waitress didn't seem interested that I had booked and had given the requested table to another group. A table at the side of bar was made up for 4. The two waitresses seemed very harassed and the service was slow. I ordered the fish which was excellent but my side order of spinach came very late and was cold and tough. We ordered a rose wine but instead of allowing a taster first, the waitress filled up all four glasses before we realized it. The wine did not taste good and so it was returned and we ordered a very nice white wine which was sampled first. We realized that the staffing had been curtailed and the waitresses did their best but as we had been previously and had an excellent meal, we did expect the same again. We have booked to come for lunch in August so we hope the owner is back from Italy. I have stipulated the table at the window on my reservation.
I cannot say enough good things about Il Vicolo...always, always, a perfect experience. Service and food are outstanding!
Looked for a small Italian Restaurant in St James area. Limited menu, food average. It is in a nice location off the beaten path.
Our favorite meal in London! Our food was delicious, and Bianca was a charming and attentive server. Her dad is the chef/owner of the restaurant, and her pride in him and in the business was most apparent. The atmosphere is lovely. The restaurant is set in a delightful little alleyway, and the interior is clean, stylish, and quiet. Highly recommend!
We have been coming to this restaurant for over twenty years - I think that says it all!
