First visit following recommendations. Fantastic meal, great service. Felt very spoilt. Also live music added to the ambience. Highly recommended and we will certainly be going back.
Thoroughly enjoyed our Tues Holi set menu. Couldn’t fault it. Thank you
Always worth a visit - not just for interesting food (as well as tasty) but a certain quirky charm to the place, because the high-class nature of everything is slightly at odds with the homely locale.
This was the third time we have visited Indian Essence in Petts Wood - a very unassuming little restaurant with a pay and display car park near by. However, the welcome is a big one and staff are very attentive throughout the meal. Drinks are served first along with poppadoms and pickles. The lunch menu has a reasonable amount of choices with a few extras to be ordered - we love the samosas and the tandoori bites. We both had the lamb curry for a main meal with an extra naan bread - the spicing in this is superb, and comes with fluffy rice and daal. Dessert choices are mouthwatering and it is up to the individual to choose something they like. Pricing is really reasonable and we will definitely return as we so love the flavours.
Excellent Sunday lunch menu and very tasty food. The only very slight glitch that prevented a five star review, was that it took about 20 minutes and 2 reminders for my G&T to arrive
The food was fantastic but the service was the real standout feature of this experience. We will go again.
Very enjoyable experience, lovely restaurant, food amazing & waiters very pleasant
Delicious and different. This is, by far, the best Indian restaurant for miles around. The food is superb, portions are generous and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Excellent spices and flavours in cocktails as well as food. Tasting menu is exceptional and 3rd time of visiting, each has been perfect from service to food and good value.
First time here, it was a late lunch for my brothers 50th Birthday, great service & the food was really good, I would definitely return.
One remark, we were the last customers in the restaurant, I returned from the ladies to see a chef I think, snoring loudly on the seats in the restaurant, probably a long day, maybe he needed a rest before the evening began....maybe somewhere else is needed to rest between shifts rather than in the restaurant where there are still customers, it was I’d say very strange.
The food was almost as good as on previous visits but the new Comfort food menu was a bit of a disappointment. The dishes were not spiced as well and the fish fry was dry and overcooked. The set lunch was excellent but no dish of vegetables...sad cost cutting! And no nan which was previously included. The service was adequate but there seemed a general disinterest so our experience was somewhat lacklustre. And although we know it isn’t Benares which we loved when we were able to get there, it could have been better (as it had been on our previous visits)
We thoroughly enjoyed it as always. We ordered the tasting menu & every course was delicious & the wine pairing excellent.
We had a fantastic meal here. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The food was amazing from start to finish. The tasting menu was delicious. Nothing was too much
Very nice trying different kind of food, came up lovely presentation, food tasted outstanding, all 4of is was very impressed
Delicious. We ordered the tasting menu and it was all incredible. Looking forward to visiting again, a real as I treat
Had a wonderful tasting menu experience, not a single course or wine pairing disappointed, marvellous lamb and duck , can’t wait to return to try more specialities.
It was my husbands 60th birthday and we chose Indian essence to celebrate & give him his surprise. We have been before & it never disappoints. My son & daughter in law however had not been before & their verdict was that it was incredible. We echo their sentiments. Any other Indian restaurant pales into the background once you have eaten here. Thank you for a very memorable evening.
A delicious Monday evening treat! The £21 set menu was really delicious and great value. Highly recommend the artichoke and paneer curry :)
The Railway lamb curry is fantastic - an odd sounding title but what an absolute delight, the lamb was tender and the depth of taste to the curry sauce was absolutely divine. Can't wait to visit again, soon.
We love it here and always outstanding. They have just updated the menu and some new delicious dishes to enjoy. We will be back 👌
Always a bit busy when you arrive but once seated it all works like clockwork really enjoy the meal as ever
Cant complain. Not much choice and a spice level rating would have been very useful before deciding what to eat
Indian Essence has a real problem with its service. This is the second time that we have experienced very poor service which is extremely disappointing because the quality of the food is excellent. We waited for nearly one hour between the first course and main and the waiters were well aware of our annoyance. Hence we were offered a sorbet which wasn't ordered and a free drink which we did not accept. Very disappointing especially as the evening was a treat for my Wife's birthday.
Excellent Restaurant! I really cannot fault anything here at all! Brilliant Service, amazing food and drinks, timely arrival and great atmosphere. Even down to the home made poppadom dips, the attention to detail was brilliant.
£140 for a dinner for 2 people - no alcohol included. I changed my mains and they still charged us for it, after being moody and awkward when I said that this wasn't the one I ordered. Definitely won't be returning. The waiter was really polite to start with, shame he wasn't consistent - moody teenager in my eyes!
Brilliant Food fantastic service. I struggle to think of anywhere that matches it.
We are firm favourites of Indian essence.
But Valentine’s Day was very special The attention to detail was amazing presentation fantastic and to top it off I lovely red rose thank you.
We booked at lunchtime on Valentine's Day. The restaurant was not very busy and instead of the expected VD menu only, we were offered the full choice of the good value lunchtime menu, a la carte or the special VD menu. We went for the 7 course tasting menu. Both the food and the service were excellent. Subtle spices and well chosen and cooked ingredients rather than the curry blast that stuns the taste buds in many restaurants. Unfortunately, they had a water leak so there was some banging (one of those things that happens) and the music was a little too loud which affected the ambiance. Overall an excellent meal, not cheap but the cost reflected the quality.
Had the taster menu with wine and absolutely loved it. Superb quality, delicious and great value.
Fantastic meal. The food is all amazing. Have recommended to several friends and will come again.
The little jug with towels to clean your hand was filthy on the outside. When I sat down the rop of the chair was loose. What I had was fried fish (tastless) with a sauce on the side. I didnt choose the restaurant for a bit of indian sauce on the side! The fried fish had no indian taste at all, very very bland.
We have eaten many times at Indian Essence in Petts Wood and we have never ever had a bad or poor meal . The food is always amazing and the service first class . Last Sunday we had a party of five at the restaurant , celebrating our uncles 98 Birthday and it was brilliant , he was even presented with a special Happy Birthday dessert . We would not hesitate to recommend Indian Essence to our friends , and indeed we have , many times. We are at the restaurant again this Friday for Valentines Day . Kind Regards. Alan & Yvonne Gardiner
Fantastic food as always. By far the best Indian Restaurant in the area. On par with Michelin starred restaurants in London, but significantly bet r value, especially the mid week lunch menu.
Fresh and fragrant food. Spiced perfectly and served at good temperature . Staff welcoming and professional. Had a lovely time.
We travelled from Portsmouth for lunch. As always, a lovely experience. Attentive and polite staff and the food is amazing. First time straying from the tasting menu and we’re pleased we did. Can’t wait to visit again
Really impressed with the service and the food. Tried the Indian wine, really lovely, never seen Indian wine before. It was a special birthday and the whole experience will be remembered. We will be revisiting the restaurant.
Experience overall was disappointing, and not the special evening we had excitingly anticipated. Food was good but environment lacked atmosphere. We felt the customer service was virtually non existent. The restaurant was busy (as anticipated) but it seemed the staff were not particularly interested in ensuring we enjoyed our time with them. We would not recommend dining here.
The set lunch on a Sunday is good. However, I feel you should have more than one vegetarian option. The idea of Jeera Pulau and Daal being served with every meal doesn't really work. 3 of us in our party had the prawn sea bream mussel curry in a coconut broth. It was very tasty - but the daal and jeera pulao didn't go with it.
Second visit and was fantastic, would recommend the steak two ways.
Wonderful experience. The tasting menu was superb. Went on a Sunday evening and it was very quiet so the atmosphere was lacking a little.
