Absolutely darling place. Well crafted menu that was beautifully executed. A local chef owns the restaurant, and you can see the love and care she puts into all the items. I would absolutely visit again.
Surpassed all my expectations! Attentive service, really delicious food, great value for money and a cocktail list I could quite easily have sampled lots more of!!
I'll definitely be back. Thank you for a great dining experience.
Lovely place. Nice and relaxed. Good was delicious and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Very enjoyable meal
Ishka should be busier. We have been a Couple of times and it is quite quiet. The food is good with the chef trying to present inventive dishes. This is not always perfect but there is usually something outstanding on the plate.Really well presented and service is friendly and efficient
The restaurant was great, they only had 2 staff on but you could never have told. They were efficient, polite and the food was great as well and very fast too! The cocktails and cheese board were good as well!
Ishka is a hidden gem that if it were closer to town would be fully booked for weeks at a time. I'm actually reluctant to recommend it because I want to keep it to myself lol. The food is superb, the service is impeccable but what impressed us the most was the value for money. We had the market menu as the choices we made happened to be on it. I cannot recommend this sophisticated, elegant eatery more.
The waitress was very helpful and friendly. The food was good. I would definitely go again and reccomend it to my friends and family.
Great food, lovely Australian guy serving us & great lunch menu price!
What a find!
We will be back.
Nice restaurant. Service slow due to only one person waiting tables and tending bar. Otherwise, nice staff and good food. Recommend.
We came here for my boyfriends Birthday meal.
Food was amazing (just wish there was more of it)
Service was great.
Value i was really surprised by (in a good way).
Defiantly will come back here when we are next in Edinburgh.
Staff were very pleasant and attentive. Food was fresh & tasty. This was my second visit to Ishka & I will definitely return.
While there are a lot of good things about Ishka including good service and relaxed atmosphere, unfortunately we were disappointed overall with the food. It’s not badly cooked and there’s some good presentation but the menu and mix of ingredients could be improved. Some flavours didn’t go well together to such an extent that the overall experience was not as enjoyable as hoped.
The only good thing about this restaurant was the staff. However their smiling faces could not make up for the bad food. I had halloumi for my starter. It was greasy and lacked what promised in the menu such as red cabbage, carrot etc. I could hardly taste the dressing. My main was duck. The skin was not crispy, so called cauliflower purée was so watery and so bland that it looked like white sauce on the plate, I couldn’t even eat it with my fork. I needed a spoon - probably the worst cauliflower purée I had in my life! My husband had mackerel starter which was nice (I finished his as I didn’t enjoy my starter) and venison as his main. It was ok. Nothing special about it. With so many nice choices in Edinburgh I would not go back to Ishka. Sorry :(
Great food and service. Understated.
Excellent quality of food with superb customer service
After being quite hopeful of a great experience due to the glowing reviews we were disappointed with the overall experience.
Very much a game of two halves with my wife's dishes better than mine in terms of presentation as well as flavour.
We had the Anti-Valentines menu which was on the face of it pretty good value but the execution of some of the dishes was poor.
Appetiser of Tomato and Basil soup was lovely and presented in a cute little white cup.
Pork Belly: Lovely, well cooked and with a nice little sauce/dip/chuteny on the side. Very good starter
Mackerel Pate: This came out more like a mackerel puree or pafait almost but a runny one at that. Just as curious was a fennel garnish on the side which lacked flavour and seasing overall. Poor.
Roast Rump of Lamb: Cooked perfectly and very well seasoned this was a great dish apart from a bit of variety in hte peas on the side - some looked as if they'd been reheated.
Hake with mashed potato and mushroom cream sauce: I'll be honest this looked like something an amateur would put on a plate and not something you'd expect from a restaurant claiming "exceptional menus that effortlessly combine the best in Modern Scottish cuisine with nods to the Mediterranean". The mash, hake and mushroom cream sauce effectively were placed on the plate with no real care it seemed and whilst the tastes were okay there was nothing memorable about the dish in any way.
Sweet: We both opted for the Donuts with chocolate sauce and raspberry compote/coulis on the side. I'll be honest it looked and tasted like someone had taken circular cutters to an Asda sugar donut and placed them cold on the plate with two little side dishes of sauce.
Service was good - staff very pleasant but not overally attentive really. The restaurant itself however is lovely.
Overall this was a very disappointing experience and one made moreso but the high level of expectation set by previous reviews.
Lovely food; really delicious.
Great staff, smashing lunch choice.....lovely interesting flavours. Will definitely make a return visit.
Great service. Very good portions. Second visit and had porkchirozo burger, fries, relish and bavette steak with salad and fries. Steak perfect fries hotandsupers salad well dressed.
Great menu good portions efficient friendly service. Will be back
The food was amazing. The Orange trifle is to die for ~I have a new favourite!
Excellent service and really enjoyed our lunch. Would definitely go back.
Lovely cosy atmosphere even tho we were the only people in as it was a Wednesday. Service was good as you’d expect! I was a little disappointed in the food. It all sounded better than what was actually delivered. Not bad but not great either. The wine menu was good - they had a favourite of mine you don’t often see. They also had some unusual mixers which I enjoyed with my gin! 😊
Had a voucher for Ishka. There was only one person serving on the bar and at the tables. She was run off her feet.
It was also very noisy, think there was an office party in.
We both had a starter and a main course. The food was very nice, hot and tasty.
I would recommend this restaurant.
Good choice of starters and mains. Humus excellent with pitta bread as were mussels. Both had hamburgers. Really big with skinny fries and coleslaw. Very tasty and filling. White Spanishwine very pleasant. Service great and would go back
Excellent meal very good service very quiet on the evening we went .
Ideal spot for a meal if going to the Usher Hall. I
Fun atmosphere, great service, and excellent food. The wine selection is well rounded and they have several house made cocktails (didn’t try any of those, but they looked good). The duck was great as well as the lamb rump. Both were tender and perfectly cooked. The bread for an appetizer was excellent as well. And all for a great price.
The location is a bit off the main path, but worth the trip outside of the Old Town / New Town districts.
The service was great. The food was tasty but not outstanding. The restaurant lacked atmosphere and was surprisingly quiet given that we were there during the festive season.
Great chilled lunch, yummy food great service, our waitress was really friendly and even gave a list of pubs to go out to later. Winner
Great food well presented with friendly staff. Food also reasonably priced. What more could you ask for! I will definitely be back
We really enjoyed the food and drinks at Ishka, and it was our favorite place during a short trip to Edinburgh. Good value for the money, not too crowded, and good service from the staff.
Over cooked lamb and no sauce with the dish meant it was dry. Pleasant restaurant but food not as good as it could be
A little gem - excellent food, great service, reasonable prices.
Our first visit, but we will be back!
Very impressed. Market Menu (5pm - 6.30pm) excellent value.
Had a lunch here with the family. it was just great all round. Nice food - fab service and a great time.
The food is fresh and yummy. Staff is nice and helpful. The location is easily accessible.
No draught beer available, only two of the bottled beers from extensive list. We ordered three crab starters which meant everyone else in the restaurant was denied that choice (and this was 19:00 on a Saturday). Staff spent more time telling diners what was not available than anything else.
One of our party ordered vegetable lasagne which was not as described on the menu and was lasagne heavy and vegetable light. Complaint made, no response given and still billed. Bill paid, gratuity withheld.
Without a doubt great quality food and great choice in wine all at sensible prices
Good flavourful food and ambiance. A bit out of town, but reasonably priced menu including fish choices
Delicious food, beautifully presented. Friendly service, lovely cocktails. All round perfection, recommend booking. Will definitely be back again in the near future.
