J Sheekey Atlantic Bar
I have been to the Atlantic Bar quite a few times, sadly this time was a huge disappointment despite booking in advance. Once we got our table I felt ignored. I had to ask for the order to be taken. The food which was nice, took ages to arrive. I felt like I was a n in the way and not a valued customer. It was the same for the desert, where I had to ask for the menu, then ask for our order to be taken and the food again took ages to arrive. Then I had to ask three times for the bill, then twice to pay.
No apologies, no thanks all in all a very disappointing experience. I even had to ask for the 12.5% service to be deducted!!!!!
My favourite place to eat pre theatre!
It was a special treat for my friend’s 91st Birthday and the chef sent an inscribed plate and some truffles at the end of the meal. A lovely gesture much appreciated as my friend and her late husband were frequent visitors of Sheekey’s
Post theatre. Poor service. Food arrived in an unusual order. Fries arrived first. Then tempura prawns then bread. Etc. Loud dance music playing. Not like the j sheekey I remember. Asked to go outside to finish wine. Waiter said no problem. Went outside and were told we couldn’t bring alcohol outside went back and our table was gone. Left half bottle of wine behind. Used to love this place. Have been many times. Won’t be going back.
Courteous and delightful staff. Healthy menu options. Understood we had a theatre deadline to meet. A really good experience.
Really friendly staff and excellent service at the table. Food was delicious and we were able to keep our table as long as we wanted which was a bonus. Would definitely go back.
The service was a little slow
The waiter accidentally spilt wine over my friends shirt
To be fair they offered him dry cleaning and we had a free drink
My friends fish pie was good but my sautéed octopus was tough and a little tasteless
The ambience was good and the bar seats were fine
Fantastic seafood selection. Nice atmosphere even on a quiet night.
We loved it. Went at 930 so it was very quiet- great service and the seafood platter was perfect-nice ambience would go back for sure
Great food - our particular favourite is the tuna and avocado taco’s. Service exemplary, as always!
Always a special experience at Shelley’s! I prefer a table but my wife likes the bar! The best pre theatre restaurant in our view!
While I’ve seen many rave reviews for J. Sheekey, it didn’t hit the spot for us. We had made reservations, but they still tried to seat us at the bar. I’m not sure if this was because we made reservations earlier in the day, but I didn’t find that to be ideal. The seafood platter we received didn’t taste as fresh as I’d like seafood to taste. The waitress lacked any knowledge about the oysters, which was the main reason we had chosen this restaurant. Overall, we didn’t enjoy the food and would not go back.
Food & service was outstanding! It is a very busy restaurant. Would love to go back
The service was excellent, superfriendly and efficient. The food was gorgeous and the ambiance, with its bistro-chic very nice. Certainly worth repeating!! The only thing I find rather impractical is that the menu does not make a difference between starters and mains, going for a tapas-like set-up, though some dishes are apparently to large to serve as a starter. This was clearly explained by the staff, but could just as easily have been explained on the menu, with prices for a small and a large helping. It is a small matter, but could be better clarified… It was pricy, but on the whole worth it!
As always - excellent. Crab, homemade mayonnaise, fries. What more can you ask for?!
Great post theatre place. Even spot a few famous faces occasionally. Great fun.
We came to J Sheekey´s primarily for the oysters however everything we ate was very good. We had the oyster and glass of champagne pairing which we consider good value, they were rock oysters but not creamy or jellyish even if they are out of season in August. Then we had a selection of dishes, the fish goujons, always a favourite, the tartare sauce is home made and wonderful, the Octopus with chorizo, the daily special which was sole, a great size and so wonderfully fresh. We also ate the cod which was great. I would recommend this place to anyone. You can choose to dine outside on the terrace, inside at the Atlantic bar or in the restaurant. We chose the Atlantic bar as we feel it has a nice relaxed vibe.
Back room is cold. I would avoid it. A lot of people are there to eat before going to the theater. Peeling saucy shrimp apart seems to be a miss and a bad match with the clientele. Drinks were good and the fish was EXCELLENT.
All I would have expected from such an established fish restaurant. However, if I may make one observation it would be that there wasn't enough selection of fish in the seafood bar in which I was situated. That isn't to say that the seafood was not excellent, it is just that I would have enjoyed making the same selection as those in the main body of the restaurant.
J Sheekey Atlantic Bar is a must for us every time we come to London. Sitting at the counter we can easily talk, watch the chefs prepare the various plates, get good advice our server who always available across the counter. The food is delicious, priced and sized to encourage trying several items. The place has a nice energetic vibe that we like even though we usually reject noisy restaurants.
my favourite restaurant in the world
Quite a nice place but the food was very disappointing. The lobster taco was delicious but at £13 for 2 mini tacos, not very good value for money. The shrimp burger at £16 was very soggy due to the tomato sauce and didn’t taste amazing. It comes by itself, with no sides so once fries added at £4.50, you’re looking at £20/£21 for a very basic meal, again, not great value for money. Based on my experience I would not recommend but other people seem to have had a better experience. Even though the food isn’t great, staff is very friendly and welcoming.
Arrived a bit early and were taken to our seat which was good. Service was spot on; Instant menus, drinks etc. Ordered starters which did appear very quickly which made us think we would be done and back out again very quickly, but not the case. Smoked eel starter a bit disappointing. Ordered the platter for main, fantastic, the crab was to die for. Wine very expensive for a NZ Sauvignon Blanc named after a pop group! All in all a good night out, the food was great, and overall a good experience if just slightly expensive.
Love coming here for early evening dinner at the bar. Great food, great service.
Sadly lacks professionalism and the 'wow' factor of sister establishment Scott's. Service was very average - we either had over zealous attention or very little! Food was fine but nothing more. Convenience to the ROH brought us here but we are unlikely to return.
Lovely helpful staff and a great pre theatre dining spot.
I like this spot. Food is good. Service is good and for central London price is good.
But. And it really irritates me. Is the call to remind me about 2 hours slot. At lunch. With a 1pm start. So not much chance of a waiting table anyway. And on a Monday. Was completely not necessary and shows process adherence over hospitality. Or common sense for that matter............
Ottima qualità e cibo molto buono come sempre in ambiente piacevole e accogliente
I have been to this restaurant on several occasions and once again was not disappointed, the food was excellent and perfect portion size, the staff were attentive and helpful, taking time to explain the courses as they arrived, a fantastic way to start a theatre day
Would love to see more salads on the lunch menu as main courses.
A great place to grab a bite and drink pre-theatre
Food was very average not that well presented
Excellent seafood. Attentive staff. Both hake and the lobster salad were well prepared.oyster presentation nicely done. You can understand why it is so busy
A very ordinary night at J Sheekey Atlantic Bar, despite my early pre planning for theatre, service was horribly slow, our orders were not delivered to the kitchen in the order they were made, with me ultimately ending up having to drink my espresso as I rushed to the door to make it to the performance (theatre was 3 min away).
We had a seafood platter and really enjoyed the variety and quality of seafood. The service was generally good but they did let my wine glass go empty a couple of times. It was very quiet on the Sunday night we went.
Great selection of seafood and attentive staff, the restaurant was very busy when we visited. The table wasn't properly cleaned when we were seated
Fantastic afternoon with squeaky fresh Dublin Bay Prawns, Sancerre and excellent service. What's not to love?
Delicious lobster soufflé and excellent Sauvignon blanc. Perfect lunch after visit to gallery.
Great service.Amazing seafood. Worth the visit.
