Jack's Oyster House

Visiting Albany, Jacks was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. I always find it amusing to have wonderful seafood inland, but here we were! Mussels are a litmus test for me, and Jacks served an outstanding preparation of delicious, perfectly sized mussels. A lightish broth, well-seasoned and perfectly cooked mussels were just wonderful. I also enjoyed a lovely arugula salad as a starter. Can't wait to go back to Albany!

Jack's has been one of our go-to places for many, many years and we've made a point of returning for Sunday brunch several times since things started to open again. Overall the food was very good, and the service continues to be excellent. The Oysters Rockefeller and other apps and salads were excellent. The burgers were overdone (two times we went) and offered no cheese alternatives to the Gruyere on the menu. The 'poutine' was dried out. Clearly doesn't work well if made earlier; need a starch you can make fresh or that works better re-heated. Also the menu is missing several of the old favorites. I recognize there's a new chef, but there are some things you expect from Jack's after 100 years (or in my case, almost 50 years). Boat Chowder - Maybe you can't use the old recipe, but some kind of chowder on the brunch menu would be welcome, especially on a cold autumn day. Sandwich - Something besides a burger for the non egg- eaters (perhaps something akin to the 'Almost Famous' beef, or perhaps a chicken). Fish - something besides shell fish on the brunch menu would be great - Boston style scrod has always been a classic Jack's staple. I see there are several fish choices on the dinner menu, so it shouldn't be a lift to include one of them in the brunch menu. I wish Jack's and its employees the best during these difficult times.

We enjoyed a great meal at an Albany classic. I would highly recommend the strawberry cheesecake!

Go there, best place in Albany for dates/Partners/Clients/Employees.. a classic for Downtown Albany. The new Chief has it down, amassing new menu. You won't be dissapointed.

Great place to have dinner with friends - food is great!

This is probably silly but I was really upset by how I was met at the door. I’ve been going to Jack’s for 23 years - always took out of town guests there. This time I arrived early - 20 minutes before opening - I asked if I could just come in and have a drink while I waited for my friend. No. The door was locked in my face.
Really? Would it have been such an imposition?
It made me sad to be treated like that.

The service and food were outstanding. The ambience was odd because the place was almost empty due to COVID. Four of us ate at Jack's for dinner. One had never been, 2 had only been there once or twice and I had been there a half dozen times. We were all delighted with the drinks, wine, appetizers and dinner.

We enjoyed our dinner at Jack's, an Albany staple for many years. We shared an appetizer and salad and each of us had a wonderful entree. My wife had two small plates of scallops and shrimp cocktail and I had the lobster thermidor. We were very happy and satisfied with both the flavors and the quantity. service was fabulous.

With Covid on our minds, we decided to gives Jack’s Oyster House a try for inside dining. We have dined there off and on for forty years and felt they would be up to current health standards. We were not disappointed and are extremely happy with our decision. All staff members wore masks and seating was nicely spaced. We felt completely “safe” throughout the entire course of the evening, and we were well taken care of by our waiter, Alex. Alex was professional, helpful and efficient. He made our outing especially pleasant. As for the food, it was fabulous. The menu is not as vast as it was before Covid, but it offers a nice selection of choices. The Oysters Rockefeller were a true treat, salads were were beautifully presented and just the right size, and we both loved our entrees. The 5 oz. filet that came with the filet and lobster entree was perfectly cooked and very tasty. It’s up there with one of the best I’ve ever had. The lobster tail was a very small one, but perfectly cooked and enough for me. Someone with a larger appetite might want to choose another entrée. The Chilean sea bass was also perfectly cooked, as were the accompanying vegetables for both dinners. The bill for the evening was a pleasant surprise. For all that we had, including cocktails, it was more than fair. We will be back.

Absolutely amazing, everything was perfect. Went here for an anniversary dinner, and it was just the perfect dinner we could have asked for. They even brought out a celebratory dessert, so thoughtful!

I will start off by saying that this was a very enjoyable night out for my wife's and I first anniversary. We were the first ones in the restaurant and it was very quiet. People slowly started to fill in after. Very rustic on the interior and the staff were great to us. The food was very enjoyable although rather small portions. No bread or salad are included which is a bit of bummer. We also had a large number or fruit flys flying around enjoying our evening with us. Overall a 3. Won't go crazy to get back there but wont be unhappy to try more of their meals.

One of my favorite places to dine when I'm in Albany. Brad's staff does an excellent job and I would highly recommend to any business traveler.

Great place...waiter was good and pleasant, however the steak was too bloody and we had to send it back. Other than that we enjoyed our time there.

Absolutely amazing. The food was incredible and so was the staff! I highly recommend Jack's to anyone who is looking for evening of class and amazing food!

Very disappointed. Ordered surf and turf. Waitress did not wait after she brought entree for me to cut into steak to see if it was cooked as requested. it was not. I requested medium and it was past well done. Could not find waitress even though there were only two other tables in the entire restaurant that were taken. My husband had to get up to find someone. A gentleman came over and said "Oh that steak is more than well done" and took the entire plate back to the kitchen. So as not to be rude my husband waited to start his meal. No one came back for 5 min. Then the gentleman at least brought back the two lobster tails so that I could eat that. I finished that as well as the sides and was still waiting on the steak. Steak comes out and yet again, NO ONE waits for me to cut into it to see if it was done to my liking. I cut the steak open and it was mostly well done with ONE pink dot in the center. I gave up! Clearly they cannot cook the steak. I was also not happy that they just plopped down a piece of meat and didn't even bother to ask if I would like anything else with it. No, just a piece of meat to eat and the meat wasn't even that good. To their credit, they did comp our drinks for us. But I will never go back as a place that is billed as high quality and has been they for many, many years should do better not only at waiter/waitress etiquette but how to cook a steak.

Treated like royalty. Drinks, service, food all perfect. We will come back!

Atmosphere and food was incredible, Chef went out of his way to prepare a dish that was no longer on the menu for me. Definitely will dine at Jack's again.

Everything perfict. Service, drinks, ambience, food all wonderful. We haven't been to Jack's for several years, but will be back soon. We highly recommend it.
