Our first visit and Jacques did not disappoint - a lovely open restaurant with plenty of space and a good ambience - great service from knowledgable staff, a wide choice of alcohol (nice to see English sparkling wine included) and fantastic food cooked by new head chef Mark Walsh and his team.

A top experience overseen by Richard Chiswell their excellent GM who has put together a first class team - well worth a visit.

Fantastic experience. Food brilliant and staff friendly but not too intrusive but close enough when you needed something. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Our first visit to Jacques as we love travelling to Knowle and had heard some good reviews so we were looking forward to booking in for a special occasion.

It was a Wednesday evening so the restaurant was not busy at 5.45 for our booking. We had a lovely greeting at reception and good service. For the first half an hour of dinner we enjoyed the very Christmassy ambience of the dining area. However, our visit was soon somewhat ruined by two diners who were placed right on the table next to us when there were many other tables available to help with social distancing. The diners next to us were full of cold and constantly sniffing and coughing. Which as you can imagine these Covid times totally ruined our evening as we wanted to rush our meal to vacate the area. We did report our disappointment for the reception as we left and they were sympathetic but I am not sure they realised how our first impression of the place had be really dampened. anyone with initiative would have spaced the diners out and been aware that placing two people full of cold who were constantly on phones next to a couple trying to celebrate a special occasion was not ideal.
The food was absolutely top notch but you would expect that for what you are paying. It is lovely restaurant but I think could benefit from an experienced manager who would ensure the experience of diners is not compromised by others by foresight and planning. Such a shame, not sure we would rush back but we did buy Xmas vouchers and hope that the recipients we give them to dont experience the same and this was just a one off unfortunate incident. We would give 5 stars but the lack of awareness of the situation warrants the downgrading.

The restaurant decor is beautiful, but the price charged for the service and the quantity of food is eye watering. This is pretentiousness backed by on over inflated opinion of the quality and service. There is no doubt the food is good, but the price tag is unwarranted. The portions are small. £32 for turbot and then £5 for green beans and then £5 for 9 chips. If these prices are being charged then the service should be exceptional. Where was the amuse bouche, where was the sorbet between courses, probably in the same place as the butter knives that were presented after we'd finished the basket of bread and butter and had to ask 3 times for another basket of bread.

Don't get me started about the wine, who prices these bottles and why is there not a reasonably priced good quality bottle of house wine on the menu?

When these prices are being charged you expect a certain level of service and it was lacking, leaving a bad taste in the mouth.

Fantastic to have a fine dining experience based in Knowle. Such a shame the food was average but the evening was lovely and mentioned that x 1 dessert was disappointing which was Deducted from the bill without asking. Would leave a while to return to see if the food matches the rest of the experience.

Disappointing to say the least - no lunchtime menu. Starter was tiny and not tasty(mushrooms) main course tasty but had to add carbs . Basically expensive fo what we got. I have been to Jacques before for lunch, afternoon tea and in an evening; I have never been disappointed before. Sorry but this time I could not recommend to friends.

Fab food, great decor, attentive service, clean facilities; shame a large male group dominated our area which took the edge off - think out of respect for other quieter couple guests they should have been seated in your large group areas which were empty anyway, completely understand that these are usually charged extra but in the interests of good people managing skills and keeping everyone enjoying their experience for the costs involved we just feel this could have been better managed. We would have stayed and drank longer but for this. Just our thoughts otherwise a lovely birthday meal with some great food and flavour combinations.

Nice ambience and attentive service but a little slow. We had the Sunday roast and found the food good quality but the portion of meat was too small. We had roast beef which was nicely cooked but only give 3 small thinly sliced pieces. Vegetables and potato was good. £25 was expensive for that dish. Cheesecake was good but again pricey at £9. We were overcharged so system could have been more robust

Having experienced some wonderful evening meals at Jacques I was unfortunately disappointed with breakfast. Eggs on Sourdough were really really over cooked and the service wasn’t as it’s been before. Very slow, and no care or attention. I’m really sad as this isn’t what I’ve experienced in the past. Hopefully a one off.

Everything about our meals/dining experience at Jacques was excellent - there is nothing I would change, it was perfect. Loved the restaurant itself and all the staff are lovely, so friendly and polite and enjoy chatting/engaging with all their customers. Whatever you want, nothing is too much trouble. We were there to celebrate my Dad's 80th Birthday and he loved it. He even received a complimentary Happy Birthday desert from the chief. Can't fault it at all. Will definitely dine there again and would strongly recommend it to all. Also, liked the vintage car next to the entrance into Jacques. If you're looking for some place special to celebrate any occasion or you just fancy treating yourself to a lovely meal, you gotta go Jacques.

The food and service was okay but not exceptional and very expensive for what it is, even adding 12.5% service charge because “they want to chsrge like London” when they are in the West Midlands!

The restaurant has clearly had a lot of money spent on it and the decor is beautiful and very stylish. The food and service however really left me underwhelmed…

The food was at best average and although beautifully presented tasted bland (I had the tempura prawns and the turbot). Two of my party ordered the beef carpaccio which was sent back uneaten as when it was served it was more akin to quite roughly sliced medium rare sirloin steak! It was not carpaccio…

There were plenty of staff working but despite a quiet restaurant we were unable to attract attention to order, replenish drinks and water (which by the way they charge for!)

I can’t tell you how much I wanted this restaurant to be as fantastic as it looked. As a local, the area has been crying out for a fine dining venue for a long time. You only get one chance to make a first impression and mine sadly means that I won’t be returning.

I booked into Jacques as a birthday celebration for my friend. Wow what a place. The only place I can compare it to is The Ivy in Covent Garden. The food (I’m a vegan) was simply divine, the service was amazing & the ambiance was sublime. I will definitely come back here again with my family of 5, prices are middle of the road, not too expensive. Basically in this instance you get what you pay for. Thank you for a lovely afternoon I will be back.
