Fabulous food, good prices, fine service--but good luck holding a conversation--the music is way too loud. Several requests did not result in a lowering of the volume.
I (female) arrived first. No one came by but the guy with water. I finally flagged down a waiter fir a menu with all its pages and asked for a Salty Margarita. The waiter told me the bartender said they were out of Triple Sec — on a Saturday night. My male companion arrived, expressed disappointment that there would be no Margaritas and, as if by magic, the bartender found the Triple Sec. When we were nearly finished, a third Margarita arrived for my male companion “extra full” to make up for any inconvenience caused to male companion. I then described my long wait and denial of a Margarita and demanded a free one on the bartender for her behavior. It arrived in “Sec”onds
There was a small glitch with our reservation but Rebecca Janson, the Training Ambassador on site, as well as our wait person, Caroline, more than made up for it. Service was professional while friendly. The food was interesting, delicious, and presented beautifully. It was a wonderful experience. This will be our go to restaurant whenever we are in the area!
Food and ambiance both better at the Bethesda branch.
Really nice and good!! Food tastes great and the waiters were super nice and detailed!
We all agreed that the food was good, though there wasn’t an abundance of it. It is very expensive! Even though dishes were around $12, you needed a lot of them to make a meal. The Sangria was the best I have ever had, have the sangria, you won’t be disappointed. 3 people = $170.
Still quite good, but the kittle touches seem to be missing. Not a fan of the newer bowls and white plates, the few fried dishes were a tad greasy, but the salads and paella were very tasty.
Great menu, good drinks. I visited another location a few weeks back and it was also superb. Strongly suggest making a reservation, as the place can get busy. Bar area is nice, and the weekend happy hour is a good value. Lots of variety in the alcohol selection. House sangria was very good, and the Ultimate G&T was not just tasty but beautiful as well.
What a great evening and dinner! Our waitress was perfect, her recommendations were wonderful, and it was a fantastic evening to sit outside. My friend is allergic to pine nuts, and to a person, everyone who brought a dish to our table assured her that they were aware of her allergy and that her food was 100% pine nut-free. It was just a great evening, all around. THANKS, Jaleo!!!
We had sn outstanding meal and the service was excellent! We highly recommend Jaleo CC to anyone who loves Spanish Tapas...thank you Nick and the staff!!
Had a business dinner at Jaleo Crystal City. The restaurant was clean, the service was great and the food was outstanding. It was the first time anyone of us had a tapas style dinner. The waiter did a great job of explaining everything and helped us with selecting our food. Every dish we had was fantastic including dessert and drinks. Our clients loved the place and food and so did we. I would recommend this place to anyone. The price was on the higher side but I have no regrets and would do it all over again.
Food was generally excellent, except the calamari which was somewhat uninspiring. I expect to pay more for good quality (which this was), but $150 before tip, for two people was high, considering we only had three drinks between us
My first visit to Jaleo since about 3 or 4 years ago. I remember being a bit disappointed the last time but this time the service and food were excellent. We were a group of five and everyone, without exception loved the food. We ordered about 10 tapas dishes and that was just enough for us. The waiter recommended 3 dishes per person but we knew we were not big eaters, so 2 each was plenty. We had the rose, which was a bit expensive and resulted in a bigger bill than we expected. Otherwise, based on the food alone it was good value for money. I certainly have no problems recommending the restaurant.
I love your restaurant, however, please serve your Gambas in a traditional terra cotta cazuela. They are just not hot when they come out in the bowl, and it ruins one of my favorite spanish dishes.
Excellent lunch here. We had the lunchtime special which was perfect for us. Service could not have been better, attentive without hovering. Really enjoyed everything.
Great Service Mac was very attentive food was great. Amazing experience Jaleo Crystal City is our favorite restaurant!
There was an extensive selection of tapas and all that we tried were delicious. The service was fast and friendly.
It was date night for my husband and I. We have been to Jaleo on one other occasion and I couldn’t wait to go back. So when he asked me what I felt like eating that evening, I didn’t hesitate to tell him Jaleo. We had a pitcher of Sangria which was very delicious. We are both huge fans of Jamón Iberico. So we had a few Tapas that had the Jamón and we also had the Calamares with the squid ink and the Duck. Everything we ate was amazing and we could have always eaten more but we wanted to save room for dessert. We love the food but we also support José Andres due to his Philanthropic work and feeding those who are suffering. Do yourself a favor and try Jaleo
We didn’t have a great food experience at this restaurant. We were very disappointed in the super slow service & the taste of food plus the food took FOREVER to get. Also, it’s not kid-friendly at all so if you have kids this is not the place to go. Very expense with no good service. Not going back!
Not as good as I remembered
Maybe it is because I just got back from a trip to Barcelona, but the food was just OK. Some of the dozen of so dishes that our party of 5 tried were excellent (e.g., dates/bacon) and some were not (e.g., the two chorizo dishes on the menu). The service was attentive and it is a cool place, but it did not quite meet expectations. With tip and 1-2 drinks a piece, the price was a bit more than $50 per person. The server suggested 3 tapas per person, but unless you are starving, 2 is probably enough.
Good interesting food, great service.
As always, Jaleo is a delight in food, service, ambiance.
I've been to tapas restaurants in Barcelona and Madrid and this was not like them at all. The food ranged from absolutely delicious to downright distasteful. That's too much of a standard deviation for me.
If you've never been to a tapas restaurant outside of the US, you may really enjoy this. Unfortunately my expectations were at a very high standard and that may not have been fair to this restaurant.
The establishment really got busy later on, so maybe my tastes are different than everyone else. I won't be going back.
Food was delicious especially the roasted cauliflower! Wish I could have the recipe! My friends from out of town loved it and the idea of tapas to share. Will return soon!
We celebrated our daughter’s birthday and brought our toddler grandson along. The food was terrific and the server was wonderful!
In town on business travel, arriving relatively late in the evening, the staff was generous with accommodating a colleague who had already eaten so that we could combine meeting with my meal. The food was carefully prepared and presented, with the best of Spanish cuisine I have had outside Spain.
First time ever eating at Jaleo. Totally loved it. Look forward to returning. Love sitting outside on the patio. Food is great.
We had a great birthday celebration at Jaleo, which is a wonderful venue for a special event or just a really nice evening out. Everything we had was delicious, but I recommend the ham fritters, hangers steak and ensaladilla ruses in particular - and for dessert, the goatcheese cake and sorbet is a MUST. I love Jaleo!
For $70 a person we shouldn’t have left feeling hungry
Jeynner was a fantastic server. I always get great service at Jose’s restaurants, but Jeynner went above and beyond with his recommendations. Every cocktail and dish he said we should try ended up being the highlight of the meal. Brava!
Food was outstanding and only outdone by the service. The wine was paired perfectly with each course. Made me want to go back to Spain.
Fined outside which was a fabulous option. Tapas lend themselves to easy dining as we all get to chose a small plate to try and share. Wine selection was extensive and complimentary to the meal. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Food was absolutely delicious & we will have to go back to try more dishes. Gambas & patatas bravado are a must try We enjoyed a couple of the very creative vegetable dishes too. The cauliflower/date/olive dish & the endive goat cheese plates we divine. Highly recommend!!
Jaleo has become a favorite of my siblings when they come to visit the DC area. As fate would have it, two of them found their way here for this trip. Jose Andres and his entire team make every experience a joy. The food is superlative. The drinks are extraordinary. The decor is fun and vibrant. The service is exquisite. They even deconstructed a couple of dishes for my seven-year-old daughter. Even she loved almost everything she ate. You absolutely cannot go wrong here.
Lovely evening to sit outside. Many outstanding small plates to choose from.
Food was phenomenal, and a fun atmosphere. Bar service was spot on; table service was very much a disappointment in terms of attitude and responsiveness.
Wonderful birthday, great food and service
This was our second experience with Jaleo in their Crystal City location. On both of our visits we chose the Chef’s tasting menu with the Spanish sips wine pairings. Last time, despite the restaurant being busier, our waiter took the time to explain the pairings and the wine selection and our last experience was simply magical. Unfortunately this time the pairings weren’t served to coincide with the dishes (either served early or quite late in one case when two pairings showed up at the same time after the previous round which had no pairing). Sometimes we were just barely given the type of wine, much less anything about it. While the food continues to be outstanding, I don’t know that I can continue to recommend the wine pairing.
