Great place to eat. This is my third time and I will go back. The food is good and you can share the dishes.
As always a great dining experience. Made it to two Jose Andres restaurants this week and both were delicious.
Jaleo is one of our regular places for Spanish food, especially tapas. We were celebrating my and my son's birthdays. The food was good, but mixed. The Rossejat, a traditional 'paella' of toasted pasta with shrimp and squid sofrito, was excellent, but the Pulpo a la Gallega 'Maestro Alfonso', boiled octopus with peewee potatoes, pimentón and olive oil, was poorly prepared in comparison to previous times we have had it. There was very little octopus and lots of potatoes. Given the mediocre preparation and the limited quantity of octopus, it was overpriced at $17.00. We also had Gazpacho de remolacha con queso de cabra, Setas al ajillo, Pisto manchego con huevos, and Patatas bravas, all of which were good, but not as good as in the past. We had the Plato mixto de croquetas which was so salty that my wife did not finish even one croqueta. It was not a bad meal, but not as good as we have come to expect from a Jose Andres restaurant.
I love tapas. It is a great way to sample a variety of items. Jaleo does a wonderful job preparing a great selection of Spanish items.
I understand that "Tapas" can get expensive, but that is precisely what keeps me out of those types of restaurants usually. The food is good, but you pay a lot. Perhaps some sort of deal with the most popular dishes could be arranged. It just always feels like you don't get your money's worth.
Delicious, as always. We went for the new "date night" menu. Everything paired well with the recommended wine. It was nice to have a smaller menu to choose from.
Tapas are so fun! A little pricey but every dish was so tasty. The fried dishes are a bit bigger in portion (highly recommend the eggplant) while the meat dishes are a bit smaller. The sangria was delicious and server even brought out a dessert for my friend's birthday.
Wow. If you could take the experience of having dinner party with some of your closest friends... Now, add the experience of excellence to seal the deal. Carolina really took care of me and my guest. We were unaware of how to go about the menu. She recommended the Jaleo's Classics from the "Chef's Tastings" menu. Boy was this is an experience.
There was this feeling of being a part of this exclusive tasting, even though there was many other people in the restaurant. The staff did an excellent job at keeping a steady cadence throughout the dining experience. Carolina made sure that we had everything we needed while letting catch ourselves after evey taste.
Now.. the food.
The Jaleo's Classics is perfect for you if you are "Neuvo en la Vida". Chef José Andrés put together a beautiful tasting. It was like him leading you in dance. You knew what step was coming next, but were you ready? As a person who frequents restaurants a lot, it is nice to have experiences that are curated like this
Some of our favorites were:
Cebolla Asada con Queso Valdeón (Roasted Onion with Valdeón Cheese) - The tender sweet onion along with the Valdeón Blue Cheese & Pine Nuts. Delicious!
Coliflor Salteada con Aceitunas y Dátiles (Sauteed Cauliflower with Olives & Dates) - OH MY WORD! This was probably my favorite! It is so simple, yet how did I never think about putting these flavors together. The dates... mi corazon!
Canelones de Cerdo Gratinados con Salsa de Béchamel (Canelones Stuffed with Pork and Béchemel Sauce) - Creamy and dreamy! Texturally, you would mistake the Béchamel sauce for maybe a ricotta or almost buttery foie gras, but then you get the pork notes. Amazing flavors.
As far as "el dinero", if you worried, obviously this is a steal. You are getting a premium experience at a casual restaurant. The drinks are great! If you are fortunate to get her, tip Carolina well! She and the staff at Jaleo - Crystal City are a delight!
Gracias & Salut,
Friends/business lunch, perfect place, amazing food and service and great acoustics - we could hear each other perfectly but with privacy in enough background noise to talk without fear of being overheard. Great spot!
Would have liked more garlic in the garlic with shrimp dish. Food was tasty and the service was good.
We had a wonderful dinner with our daughter, who was in town for a meeting. Our server, Mark, was
a huge reason for our delightful dining experience--the food was excellent, too.
Jaleo is a tapas restaurant, but the portions were generous compared to other tapas places. We ordered three plates each and were struggling to finish them. Not to mention, the food was amazing- huge flavor, very well created and cooked. We will definitely be back to try more plates!
My wife and I both got sick after this visit. Checked with the restaurant and they didn't have any other reports of sickness following the night we visited, but I'm suspicious.
The food was delicious and the service was perfectly paced. We especially liked the garlic shrimp, chicken croquetas and house made chorizo. Can’t beat the flan. And of course, sangria.
You never think you will get full off small plates but you always do when the food is good. Everything we ordered was delicious.
The food was wonderful and the service was too. I will return in the near future.
Disappointing - ordered from special truffle menu with extra truffles and dish had zero truffle magic. Runners dump plated food at your table, say nothing or mumble something unintelligible and scurry away. Reboot, please!
I would give 5 stars but waiter forgot a dish. This place is a favorite when we go to Synetic Theater
We went as a family, and this is the first time we have been to Jaleo in late afternoon. The food was excellent, as always. Among the new items we tried was the crispy fried Japanese eggplant, and we all would recommend that dish. Usually, the restaurant is very noisy, but with very few people eating before 5:00 on a Sunday afternoon, it was much quieter than we've ever had it.
Ricardo, our service person, was tremendous. I took a friend, who brought her "active" children, and Ricardo and the door staff were patient and lovely. I only gave a "good" rating on Value, because Jaleo is not inexpensive ...and you know what, I don't care. I am so happy to see you in Arlington where I live. I moved here 18 months ago, and was introduced to Jaleo D.C. through friends in the Capital. Now I have my own. LOVE everything about the restaurant. With no close competition, my favorite in the region. Next time, I hope to take advantage of the Wine Shop.
Out of everything we ordered the complimentary bread was our favorite. The food left a lot to be desired. Service was ok. Ambiance was nice. We will not return due to the food not being worth the price. The menu is also hard to read.
