We had theatre afterwards, so we arrived a few minutes early for a 6:15 reservation. Observing the restaurant to be mostly empty, I expected to be seated at a comfortable table. Instead, were led to the extreme rear of the restaurant and seated at a table contiguous (literally) with a very narrow passage which we shortly discovered to be the sole manner of egress for waiters/busboys servicing the outdoor seating area. The result, of course, was a continuous stream of service personnel brushing by our table, the door banging loudly every time they went in or out and a rush of freezing air to accompany the banging. Should we return, I would certainly refuse to be seated in the same area.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed the food. It was very good and arrived in a timely manner, except for one dish, which seems to have been forgotten. When it finally arrived (after some discussion with the waiter), it seemed to have been rushed. It was bland, and I could detect no sherry in the "sherry dressing."
Service was efficient, if a bit brusque.
Always a great meal. Love the tapas and the cocktails
They have a very nice Sunday Brunch menu… the Cuban rice was delicious. They have some new items in the menu as well… We tried to of the new items the Canelones de cerdo were absolutely amazing and my husband said they the Buñuelos de bacalao were delicious as well ( I didn’t try them because I personally don’t like Cod fish). Service was great as always!
Delicious tapas, wines and dessert! Entertained out of town family and they loved it! Perfect lunch before hitting the museums!
Fantastic food. We did the tasting menu and the chef gave us a beautiful presentation of what the menu has to offer. Don’t miss out on the bacon wrapped dates-by far my favorite. We will be back!
I have been coming to DC Jaleo since the early days in the mid 1990s. Yesterday I was sad to see "Tour de España" disappear from the menu. We tried the "Jaleo classics" (a misnomer for sure), apparently new, though I did not like the idea of getting a selection of tapas in which I could not choose- in fact, they could not even tell us ahead of time what the would be serving. Ok, we gave a tried- first time and definitively last. Some of the tapas were great, as always (e.g., croquetas de pollo), others I would have not chosen at all if offered (and I am extremely polyphagous!). The stinginess of the size of the portions was annoying (e.g., the minuscule cube of tortilla in a miniature segment of baguette). For the first time in over 25 years of eating in Jaleo, some food was not eaten- the salad, brought right before the dessert (which was great), was a sad, bland and flaccid representation of the Kingdom Plantae. Overall, a bit of a disappointment. The prices in the wine list are simply frightening, the options at the lower end (at $40 - 50), minimal. Sad to discover that after many years, my love for Jaleo, is no longer unconditional!
Great food, service and ambiance. Will definitely return.
good Spanish tapas. Paella was really good!! The buñuelos de bacalao are also great.
Good food! Nice place
The three of us went to Jaleo on 11/22 and selected the $75 per person menu. The food was low end, nothing special and had no taste. for the price we paid. One of us got a headache during the meal and later that night threw it all up. You're better off going to Bodega in Georgetown, which has much better food at a lawyer cost.
This is our go to restaurant in DC. The food is fabulous and the service exceptional!
Great lunch spot! It was pretty crowded for lunch on Monday so we asked if we could sit outdoors since it was a nice day and we saw that there were heaters. It was clear that patio service was not planning on being open that day, however the hostess and servers were so nice to seat us at a table and turn on the heaters. After a while a couple other tables also joined us. I am sure we were an inconvenience, but we super appreciated the friendly service and accommodation of letting us sit outside. We ordered 5 or 6 items which was just perfect for us, and very tasty! Overall a great experience, which it had been a few years for me, so it was so reassuring to find that both food and service were the same as I remember from pre-pandemic times. Thank you and keep up the excellent standard! Our server, unfortunately I can't remember his name, was very nice and accommodating.
Jaleo never disappoints. The meal was excellent
Got sat pretty quickly but then waited several minutes and still had not had a server come by. Made eye contact with manager and he came over got our drink order and took the food order. Food came out timely and everything we had was good. The dates, patatas bravas, and a pork stuffed with ham and cheese and fried. Had a canneloni
We did not succeed when ordering. The Spanish omelet was poor for a Spaniard who is used to the best tortillas in Spain. Perhaps, it is outstanding for the US or elsewhere people. i cannot describe how remarkable can it be tasting a real tortilla de patata for those who have never had a proper one.
Food was great, all of it! However, had to ask for a napkin x3 times, silverware for main entree x2 , and was never asked if we wanted dessert. Disappointed service for sure
Looked forward to our visit to Jaleo, great respect for Jose Andres as a chef and a humanitarian. First, we arrive on time, the hostess tries to seat us where the servers come in and out of the kitchen, not acceptable, then she seats us at a table in the back where the servers are going in and out of a door to the outside which blasts cold air on us, I tell our server, she gets the manager and we get better seats but not a great way to start a meal. This is a casual restaurant, high noise level, lots of people, lots of activity, not what I expected but that's on me. Very large menu, lots of choices but we decide to do the Jaleo Experience tasting menu. First taste was excellent, olive gelee that tasted like green olives and two small cones, one with fish the other with cheese, also excellent. Went downhill from there, after these dishes the rest was meh, nothing special had much better in tapas bars in Spain. The Sommelier was super helpful in choosing a wine, any questions he had answers. Finished a meal with below average Patatas Bravas and a chocolate dessert that was ok but nothing special. I can only recommend Jaleo if you're interested in just getting tapas or paella, the people next to us got paella and it looked good.
Food was amazing! Really wanted to eat paella and it did not disappoint.
Delicious food and great service. Location is convenient for Capital One Arena.
Food was good and the wine was good, but the water kept coming over and interrupting us which affected the mood in a negative way. Too much service can be a bad thing.
Enjoyed the vermouth flight and tasting menu.
What a great experience. We loved everything we tried.
Great service. Food was amazing!
The food here is always excellent, from the croquetas to the pane con tomate.
There is everything to love about Jaleo’s’ I would come for any occasion. I always leave happy I came
Waiter very attentive but not overly
Food was delicious,& beautifully plated, per usual
Food was hot, well paced - not rushed.
Manager check in
Water replenished frequently
Dishes cleared after asking…
Only negative was we were seated in the back and a delivery person had to go past, in a narrow area, in between our small table & the banquette on the other side of the aisle. Delivery person was polite and apologetic difficult position for him. two times with a full hand truck ( 2x with the empty of course too)
Understandable But not in keeping with the ambiance
We ate at Paleo for a birthday dinner. The staff brought complimentary bubbly and dessert with a candle--a big surprise. The food was all prepared to perfection, and we got good advice from our waiter on how much to order. We enjoyed the varied meal we were able to put together.
Always a great selection of tapas, so there is something for everyone. A great gathering place for meeting up with friends.
We had a wonderful time. The food and service was excellent.
Excellent food with generous tapas portions. The man is a genius to maintain this food quality at so many places.
An excellent restaurant for a quiet date night or a night out with friends. The food was exceptional.
Exceptional food & service every time. One of my absolute favorite restaurants to eat at in DC.
Incredible food and service. Placed close to others— not Covid concerned but closer than even before Covid.
Jaleo in DC is always a very popular and busy place - with good reason! Since the worst of the pandemic is over with most of us in DC having been vaccinated (though we still wear masks as a precaution, of course), the place is always filled with diners enjoying the delicious cocktails and tapas - inside and outside in the heated tents! So, reservations are essential and days in advance recommended to get the time you want. The servers still wear both N-95 and cloth masks and I'm sure they're vaccinated as well. But it's really nice to enjoy the feeling normal again but still being safe!
Food is excellent. But is too noisy and full of people walking by every table. Very chaotic service. Bar with two large TVs is out of place in a restaurant of this quality
In DC so wanted to come as had great meal here 15 yrs ago
Excellent food and service. Remembered the bacon wrapped dates from years ago but disappointed they now use cream in them so couldn’t get due to husbands dairy allergy but everything else was great. Sat outside which made Jaleo and DC visit even better! Love that celebrity chef is such a humanitarian so really wanted to come. Our daughter had suggested different tapas restaurant nearby and after eating there last night, Jaleo bests them hands down!!!!!!! So glad we squeezed in Jaleo!
Always a delicious option and always happy to support a Jose Andres establishment.
The food and the service continue to be of very high quality.
Jaleo needs it’s service improved improved especially at it’s front desk. For over $400 for 3 it was not a good value. The food uses too much butter. I won’t be back. Your location at Arlington was far and away better.
Overall experience was very good. Food was delicious except the Shrimp and Squid Paella was served on the saltier side. Appreciated the staff for addressing the missed expectation with a complimentary dessert of our choice. Very good customer service. Perfect lighting for photo opportunities.
