Taking inspiration from the Viceroy’s house of New Delhi, the restaurant will be a glamorous Indian dining room with rainforest emperador marbles, dark timber paneling, gilded walls, and Lutyens inspired furnishings. The space will reflect the vibrant colours and intricate patterns of rare Jamavar shawls, offset with brass accents, hand-cut marquetry, and a sculpted bar that will celebrate the great textile traditions of India.
Dinner 17:30 - 22:30
Closed on Sundays
What Insiders Are Saying
Jamavar is an upmarket Indian restaurant in Mayfair with excellent food and a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere.
Great to eat so classic Indian dishes simply done right - not too fancy, just the right level of sophistication to ensure an amazingly tasty meal.
I booked this for my husband's birthday and intended for us to have the tasting menu. We usually do this for special occasions and have eaten the taster menu at many restaurants.
we arrived at Jamavar and the restaurant was warm and welcoming, on a very rainy evening. we were shown to our table downstairs. It was very closely positioned to the table next to it which meant it did lack some privacy. we were offered water and then the drinks menu. As it was a special occasion we ordered cocktails. We were then quickly asked to make food choices and went for the taster menu, with some poppadum to start. The food started arriving within minutes and everything else followed at quite a pace. I knew we only had the table for 2 hours but we hadn't even started out cocktails before the starters began.
The food was delicious, each course had great layers of flavour and heat but the portions were large and the dishes were served so fast that i actually felt quite ill. We've eaten many taster menus and even had accompanying wine but i struggled to finish my second glass of wine and ended up leaving half of it. we sat down at 18.30 and by 19.45 we were paid and were leaving. To be honest, it felt like an anti-climax and i was quite disappointed.
Therefore, I would suggest this restaurant suits those diners who are either eating off the normal menu or who are dining in a larger group.
Wonderful restaurant with great ambience. I love the fact that everything is consistent from the food to uniforms of waiters. Food was simple and delicious.
The food and service has notably improved since its initial opening
We were looked after very well and the food was amazing!
Lovely place! Second time we have been and most of the food was amazing! Starters as usual were delicious!!
we would go again for the starters if not the mains. Thank you!
Staff were all friendly. I had the tasting menu and enjoyed all the dishes. Food was tasty and nicely presented. Really enjoyed the Malai stone bass tikka, and Adraki Laml Chop. If you can get there for Early bird dinner then worth doing and value for money.
Didnt meet upto its reputation for us. Michelin star doesnt seem to point in the right direction. Difficult as it is for me to write this the biryani lacked masala, the butter chicken was very basic nothing out of this world, murgh malligai was very dry, this being said the aalo tikki and chicken tikka were amazing. Heavily overpriced but I have had better Indian/Pakistani food. I was very disappointed after trying to go there for a year and after all I had heard from food critics and bloggers. Service was great and ambience was ok, I mean if aim sitting in Michelin star restaurant I need other people sitting far away from me and not want to hear their converstations.
The service was actually too fast. We revived our starter less than 5 mins after ordering. It felt like we were being rushed.
The food had a great combination of flavours. The service was attentive and friendly.
Everything was perfect including an amazing service and tasty food. BUT the moment you need to use a ladies room DON'T! It disgustingly dirty and unhygenic. No idea how is it even possible in Michelin star restaurant
Good food, good service, very noisy, tables too close together. Better for a small group rather than 2 people.
Jamawar was not upto my expectation in terms of food ( quality ) , though the starters had a bit of innovation and presentation , the mains were as if i was eating out in any other regular Indian restaurant ( so nothing special ). The quantity of soft drinks was pathetic served out of big bottles and the servers were just trying to push you to take more every 10minutes which was a bit annoying . I hope they can better the service and take note as Jamawar can certainly do better ;
Went for my anniversary dinner having seen good reviews for this restaurant online. We both had a tasting menu which was amazing with surprisingly generous potions which we barely finished. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Will be back for sure.
Very disappointed. Used to be so much better.
Service chaotic. Poured wine all over me and I don’t believe they made up for it properly.
We enjoyed the meal however felt the vegetarian main options were limited. What really impacted the evening was the service. We had to continuously ask for things which I’ve not experienced in other fine dining restaurants. Most establishments at this level have extremely attentive waiting staff who monitor the table continuously. I found the waiting staff absent for much of the meal
Excellent Indian restaurant with superb service. Currently probably the best in London
I enjoyed lunch at Jamavar, whilst celebrating my 10th wedding anniversary.
The food was excellent and the little beef starters were absolutely brilliant!! Gosh they were so nice!!
We were served by attentive and friendly staff, and they understood the menu.
They even gave us a nice little chocolate cake to celebrate our wedding milestone.
I will 100% be going back in the very near future.
An awesome find!!!
The restaurant didn't wow us. Both me and my friend agreed we had better Indian food for about the same or cheaper price elsewhere. The lamb shank (Laal Maas) was tender and spicy, but nothing great in particular. The quail tandoori was alright. The mango and date and roses and rhubarb lassis, on the other hand, were great.
Overall excellent meal, the waiter was fantastic , very knowledgeable and engaging. A very unique Indian experience in London. I can’t recommend this place enough and I was seated in the basement!
Indian food but not as you know it this is not a posh version of your local restaurant. It is much better than that. Excellent fixed price menu and different cocktails. Interestingly starters were quite hot with spice but mains not, this we enjoyed. Staff were welcoming and ambiance great. Aim to go again for a deeper culinary experience.
This restaurant has great food and I’ve dined here on multiple occasions.
The manager refunded us it was so bad.
The food was amazing, literally so flavoursome and the meat so tender. I would recommend getting the cheesecake for desert. Been craving it ever since, best cheesecake I’ve eaten in my life! My only criticism would be the waiting staff sometime seem disinterested in you, and look at you like you’ve disrupted their conversation when you need service, which is a shame as the rest of the night was amazing. However it wasn’t that bad that I wouldn’t go there again. Thank you Jamavar for a lovely evening!
Food was great and restaurant decor is lovely. Had to book for 5:30 but restaurant was t super busy so the atmosphere was eerily quiet.
Amazing service at Jamavar - the staff were so accommodating and courteous even after we got very delayed due to road closures. The food was authentic and very tasty, large portions and well presented. I would definitely recommend Jamavar!
One of the best Indian meals we have had in a long time. We will be back very soon!
Went for the tasting menu and wasn’t disappointed. Every dish was sublime.
Attention to detail throughout was first class
I loved the food althought the restaurant serves the smallest Indian food portions I ate in my life across the world. Lovely atmosphere and very good service. Very good value for Mayfair.
We went for dinner at Jamavar and it was excellent. The food was amazing and the ambience was classy. Worth the time and money.
I took my client to this restaurant after reading good reviews. He was very happy with the food and atmosphere. The service was very attentive. The quality of food and the price was just right for my occasion. Far exceeded my expectation. I will continuously use this restaurant for my business lunch.
Jamavar has tasty and interesting Indian food. Small plates were good for sharing.
The lamb was very tough and dry. There was no salt in the biryani and we left the whole pot,yet the waiter didn't even bother to ask what was wrong.
Two of us had the lunchtime menu which has a good selection of choices and was both very enjoyable and good value. Good service and good wine. What's not to like?
Food was really good. However, the table booked for us was just near the staircase. Despite of already calling Jamavar staff and mentioning i need a corner table as its a special occasion they still had allocated the middle table. They were very prompt in rectifying that an provide us a private dining area which made the occasion more special. Definately recommend it !!
Honestly the best Indian food I have ever had. I have now been three times and loved it more each time.
I had a good experience with great authentic food.
Excellent food and service. Made my mum’s birthday wonderful!
Fabulous experience. Great food and service all around and surprisingly the prices are very reasonable for the five star restaurant experience you get. Can’t wait to return!
Tastefully decorated dinning rooms and not too loud music creates a very pleasant and intimate dining experience. We tried vegetarian and vegan dishes and absolutely enjoyed their authentic Indian flavors. Staff is extremely attentive and caring. All our requests were fulfilled.
Why not 5/5? In my opinion, as in Indian restaurant, there are too little vegetarian (not to mention vegan) options. And 2 out of 3 cocktails we tried were average.
