Lovely birthday evening, thoughtful staff and good service
We got our table 20mins late; booked for 9.30pm got it at 9.50pm; it was a table for 6, I got an impression on the call when I booked that the table will be ready by 9.15pm.
Starters were excellent; but when it came to mains we were disappointed. Found butter chicken to be too sweet, aubergine chettinad was ok didn’t taste like the typical chettinad curry. Nothing spectacular about the desserts either.
Overall a good place to go once; given the price we expected better quality food and service.
The waiter who served us was great and was very kind to explain every dish.
Lovely food, great location and fantastic service!
Great food and fab service. The cocktails were unusual but definitely worth trying.
Good selection for vegetarians.
Really impressed with the restaurant. Authentic recipes and very good service. Would happily recommend it.
Great food and ambience.
The food was good but expensive (butter chicken for £20?) The service was also a bit off -- I asked for tap water and my dining companion asked for sparkling. They brought her a bottle of still and even after realising the error, didn't just bring a bottle of sparkling water -- they waited for her to almost finish the bottle of still before doing so. And then tried to pour the sparkling water into her half glass full of still water which obviously would have tasted horrible. And then they spend the rest of the evening pouring sparkling water into my tap water. I also made a reservation well in advance but we were seated downstairs where the ambiance was not as good.
Unfortunately the sommelier embarassed me in front of my wife. Then the curry we ordered arrived with hardly any sauce. We asked for extra sauce then finally the waiter took our main dish away and brought it back completely flooded.
I took my dad for his birthday and we had such a lovely meal, the service was great and the quality of the food outstanding. I had asked the restaurant to give us a good table as it was my dads birthday and not only did we have a lovely table they also brought him a birthday desert which was very kind. I look forward to going back, great experience.
Great food and service. love the place and highly recommend it.
The food was awesome, although slightly frustrating that it was advertised as halal yet some meats that could have been halal were not halal eg Roe deer/Rabbit. Service was excellent. Food was tasty and worth the money. The lighting could be better as I thought it was a little bit too dark! Overall, a fantastic experience.
Beautiful space, great food—not too much. Very special flavors. Plus great neighborhood, convenient to hotels in area.
The food was Absolutely delicious! The waiter charming and attentive. We had a lovely evening with friends.
(Pricey wine list however)
This was our first visit and in a complete context it was certainly enjoyable. The soft shell crab appetizer was memorable, but overall the food was more ordinary than exceptional — not equal to the hype or Michelin star. Service was solid. We will return but with lowered expectations.
The food was great but service was a massive let down. We were celebrating our anniversary and got a table for 2 squashed between two other tables where I couldn't even get out without moving the tables out. Not what you expect from a Michelin started restaurant. We asked to be moved and were told the other tables were reserved for a table of 4 yet I noticed throughout the evening only 2 people turned up on all of them. Initially they were quite unaccommodating since my husband wanted the meat tasting menu and as I'm vegetarian I wanted food off al a carte, we pretty much had to argue with the manager to get this which just ruined the mood.
Perfection at its best, the food just melts in your mouth
Last Thursday my husband and I had a wonderful evening at Jamavar. We are from amsterdam, but love Londen and are passionate about Indian cuisine. What can I say, Jamavar is a true gem! The best Indian food we ever enjoyed ourside of India. The first time I visited Jamavar was in August ‘17. The restaurant was on my list for a while and I decided to plan a short culinary trip. I had the 7 course tasting menu which was exquisite! I can really recommend it as all the plates were amazing! This time I took my husband with me and he completely understood why I could not stop talking about the restaurant. It has become our favourite. Not only because of the food which is absolutely delicious, but also the good service, very friendly staff, warm and nice ambience, eye for detail, stunning decor... all ingredients for a nice lunch or dinner, suitable for all kinds of occasions. I can guarantee an enjoyable time! Cannot wait to be back!
Fantastic Indian food - best I’ve had in ages. Authentic and very high quality
Awesome experience ...
Lovely!! Will visit again!!
A wonderful lunch. We chose to have the 3 course lunch and to share plates. That we we all experienced the wonderful variety of flavours. Really high quality Indian cuisine.
Great food and wine. I really enjoyed the tasting menu.
This is was my 1st visit to a Michelin star restaurant and i must say the whole experience was awesome. Front start to finish everything was top notch. My fav item was lamb chops which are probably the best lamb chops i have had in London.
I would definitely recommend Jamavar for special occasions and their set menu is worth the monies.
Everything was great and most importantly the food was the best Indian we have had in a long time. Outstanding quality.
We went her on a recommendation that the tasting menu was tasty, plentiful and worth the £75 price tag. It certainly didn’t disappoint, the stone bass was superb and had a hint of having been cooked over coals. We couldn’t fault it and were all completely full to the brim when we left. However, It maybe better to have the tasting menu over lunch as it is rich and plentiful.
Good food, but the quantity served was quite small
Very good service. Food was good and plentiful but we did have a dish where some plastic was in it. They quickly noted and rectified by giving us extra desserts but unfortunately they charged us for it in the bill by putting down we had 4 courses instead of 3! Because we were with guests didn’t want to query this in front of them and left it. Also, ordered some onions for one guest and they bought two bowls and charged £2 each...we didn’t even touch the second bowl and they should have asked how much we needed. We did enjoy but a few errors put a bad taste in that they would overcharge if they could so watch it!
The toilets are downstairs and it also seems to be the staff relax area and feels strange to walk through staff sitting around on phones or eating for a restaurant like this. They should sit on one table and not be spread around downstairs while diners are still using the restaurant.
Excellent food and excellent service. We came here for my husband's birthday and he absolutely loved the meal. The biryani and laal maas were so flavoursome and the meat incredibly tender. This is good authentic Indian food that is perfect for any special occasion.
The only thing I would like to see improve is how they cater for food intolerances. As they knew in advance that I was lactose intolerant I would have liked them to make some bespoke dishes for me e.g. marinating meat without yoghurt or cream or adding in a soya version. If you are going to pay top dollar for a meal then everyone should be made to feel special and should be able to choose from a majority of dishes rather than a vastly reduced menu which is what I was offered.
Our 34th wedding anniversary .
We opted for vegetarian tasting menu, the services and starters were very good.
Main dish was not up to the standards.
We visited for my husbands birthday and really enjoyed the whole experience. The food was some of the best Indian I have had, cocktails were also great. Service was friendly & informative without being too formal. I also found the price quite reasonable in comparison to some fine dining, we shall definitely be back in the future!
