About this restaurant

JS is the oldest kosher restaurant in Manchester, our reputation for quality food and good service has grown and grown over the years from our humble beginnings in 1956 to a restaurant which now caters for over 100 diners. We serve great food, freshly prepared on the premises by our talented chef, in a relaxed but stylish brasserie setting. JS attracts of mix of clientele (including some famous faces!) and is the ideal setting for any occasion from a business lunch for 2, corporate events for up to 50 people, to dinner with friends or family.
Our food Alongside traditional Jewish European dishes including chicken soup, chopped liver and salt beef we also serve modern British classics like bangers and mash, fish and chips and steak pie and Middle Eastern dishes including hummous with hot pittas, falafel, shwarma and Israeli salads. JS aims to serve kosher food for all in a modern setting.

    For an ordinary Manchester restaurant JS is getting expensive - £22.50 for a lamb dish with potatoes and no veg. A grilled steak the same with chips. The restauarant is no great shakes and when compared to restaurants in Edgware Middlesex I find the JS very overpriced. In Edgware you can have a 3 course meal for this price. The food can't be faulted but people will look elsewhere if prices climb. The lamb was beautifully cooked and very flavoursome. I didn't like the saute potatoes. Very soggy and not crisp like they should have been. The desserts were not very imaginative or varied and so I didn't order one. Ice cream sundae came as a whirl of ice cream with a coloured sauce at an inflated price.

    My wife and I enjoy JS restaurant for special occasions as it kosher, extremely pleasant and the service is dignified and friendly. It is spotlessly clean and the well cooked food is delicious and plentiful.

    Excellent traditional kosher food faultless chopped liver, chicken soup and hot salt beef could not be bettered I doubt anywhere. Keep up the great food!

    Clean, tidy restaurant with plenty of choice of fine well cooked kosher meals. Flavoursome and good quality produce. The prices are fair and portions very adequate. Have used this restaurant many times and hope to return soon. Service quick and polite.

    Have been coming here for as long as I remember - at least 50 years - through many owners. It's a sort of tradition in the family now, even though I've moved away. The food is not what it was, but then what is ? The prices certainly aren't what they were - but I must admit it's sentimentality that keeps bringing me back, with memories of coming with my late mum and dad.

    The staff are welcoming and service is fast and friendly. Vegetables are always overcooked but meat is good. Portions are huge- come hungry. My only complaint was that they refused to accept my £20 reward cheque claiming they were leaving the scheme. Hardly honest dealing.
