Kahani positions itself at the high end of Indian Cuisine but sadly my experience was so far off the mark. Our reservation was for two people and we were sat at a table suitable for 6 directly under a light bulb that flickered. We asked to move and have the heating turned up as myself and several other diners sat in coats! Food orders were taken before drinks, the starters took over an hour to arrive despite it not being a particularly busy service. Sadly this meant when the food did arrive, we were so hungry we would have eaten anything.

The food itself was forgettable - we had starters, main and dessert, all below average. A watery curry, watery dahl, and a trio of tandoor chicken which was dry and lacklustre and a Gulab Jamun 'bits' chocolate bomb that was tasteless and again - very watery. I do commend the cocktails which were fantastic and perfectly designed to compliment the Indian theme.

Sadly, overall the lack of attention to detail or apology from the staff for the wait in the food, coupled with the poor food and flat atmosphere would make me strongly recommend against visiting this place. You'll feel shortchanged for experience vs value.

It was wonderful! the only little thing is that we were put in the big tables with booths behind a screen and felt cut out from the lovely atmosphere of the rest of the restaurant

We had a superb experience at Kahani having booked because of seeing it on MasterChef. What a treat! Would definitely recommend and go again. The food was exquisite and the staff absolutely fantastic. Such a lovely restaurant too - we could even watch the chefs in the kitchen. Overall a brilliant experience.

Just happened to be in London and saw the restaurant on tv.

Booked 4 days earlier and no problem . Excellent service from beginning to end and the food was fabulous if a bit pricey for us northerners 😀.

This is no ordinary Indian/Asian restaurant, everything was cooked beautifully without being covered in Ghee or overly spiced etc etc that you usually eat.

Would definitely come again and have recommended to friends and family for when in London .

I googled my way to kahani and was presently surprised by the decor, without words over the lack of understanding and compassion from the first waiter we encountered, who decided it was appropriate to lecture me on “being more careful” with my son, when he threw his pacifier and disappointed in the butter chicken I ordered, that 1: didn’t taste of anything 2: was spicy, which butter chicken usually isn’t. Kahani is a pricy restaurant, but other than the decor, there wasn’t anything justifying it, I wouldn’t go again.

Had a lovely cheeky lunch having spotted this restaurant on Masterchef this week. Not disappointed at all, food was outstanding, service professional, it was quiet yesterday therefore didn’t get the opportunity to appreciate the overall ambience. Terrific Vegan menu.
Will definitely return for dinner.

A very attentive, friendly staff met our every need, despite our slightly-under-dressed appearance. Food was excellent, especially the biryani and the haddock curry. The beef kebab was a bit overdone, but flavors were good. Dessert and presentation were very good.

We went to this restaurant for dinner. What a disappointment it was! All the small plates were literally tiny, containing just 2 pieces and just one little crab for the soft shell crab dish. We were a party of 3 so had to order double to have enough for everyone to try. One of my companions was lactose intolerant. Unfortunately for her, all the dishes under the grill section have been marinated in yogurt so she couldn’t try any of them. My other companion wanted peshwari naan which was unavailable. She also wanted pilau rice which again is not on the menu and they said they can’t make it.

In terms of taste, scallops, lobster and prawn dishes were delicious and so were the plain naan and roti. It all ended there though! The chicken tikka arrived as two anemic white cubes on the plate (£10) and was completely devoid of taste, spice or seasoning! The paneer was equally bland. Fish curry was flavourless and no taste of spice. Our server told us he’s decided the curry would go better with rice and brought a bowl of bland boiled rice to the table that we didn’t order. And it wasn’t complimentary! The lamb shank stew was chewy and undercooked.

After dinner I ordered a cup of masala which did not taste of any spice. A supermarket masala teabag tastes better!

Service was cold, stern and efficient. A bit like being served by a school headmaster!

The bill came to just over £300 for 3 people without alcohol!

I asked for leftovers to be packed for taking home. To my dismay, the delicious naan and roti have mysteriously gone missing.

At the price paid, there are many restaurants that serve far better food with better service. I definitely won’t be going back!

We went for the weekend roast which in itself is a great value meal but also ordered extras from the à la carte menu. From stepping foot into the restaurant to the moment of departure, I cannot fault the staff at Kahani restaurant. Attentive, efficient and the food truly lives up to goes beyond expectations. Walked out with bellies full and smiles aplenty. Thank you for a lovely day out. I will definitely come again 😊

Outstanding food - the lamb grilled house specialty was just outstanding ! We also had the venison also delicious - a bit spicy but really good. The dessert cheesecake was also very good. Great service ! Value for money was good and ambience nice. I really like the modern twist of the cooking. Only bit that wasn’t so outstanding was the soft shell grab - was just ok and was underwhelming. Highly recommend and will come back. Red wine cot du Rhône was delicious.

Fantastic food. Best dish was fish curry. Amazing.
Portions not too huge, so we tidied everything.
Being a basement, a bit echoey and noisy, but unavoidable and not too intrusive.
All in all, highly recommended.

Went for Saturday lunch - 3 people - had the Weekend Roast menu - £30 a head - 3 courses
We had three different starters and main courses and shared everything. Lovely modern Indian cuisine, no ghee heavy sauces (the sauces come in little jugs so you can addas much or as little as you want), nice presentation, great flavours, very attentive (not intrusive) service. Happily substituted a dessert which was not on the fixed menu. Would definitely go again - 5 stars

We chose the pre-theatre set menu and it really was outstanding. This is one of the best Indian eateries I have experience and I have eaten in most of the top Indian restaurants. I was surprised that it wasn’t busier for how good it was. I would like to go back with my son but unfortunately the restaurant is not child friendly.

This place is fantastic. I can not recommend it highly enough. Had an outstanding meal with extraordinary service. The tandoori broccoli was a standout and the chili paneer and lamb keema were excellent. It felt silly to order the butter chicken but it was so very good. Dessert was also fantastic—has the chocolate bomb and the kulfi.

Excellent service paired with very good ambiente and very good food. We had the Peacock Menu, one vegetarian option and one with meat. The chickpea starter, the sea bream and the sorbet were my personal highlights and absolutely fantastic. Some of the dishes need a bit more refinement though. For example, the grilling of the avocado has not added anything to the dish and the avocado slices were a bit too chunky for a fine dining experience. The scallop was done perfectly and I loved the star anise coating, but the mango thuvayal below was a bit lost and there was too little of it to really add another dimension to the dish. The dishes have lots of potential though. I am excited to see how the chefs are going to develop this further and looking forward to the next visit!

Lovely restaurant clos to Cadagon Hall. We had the pre-theatre set meal washed down with ice cold Cobras. The food was delicious and good value, chicken sheesh, battered spicy fish, chicken curry and fish curry, dal, naan and rice.
Service was attentive and friendly, and the restaurant was beautifully decorated with bespoke indian wallpaper and furnishings. A very pleasant evening.

Kahani is a hidden gem in Sloane Square, across the street from Cadogan Hall and very near the Royal Court. We went with another couple and shared our starters and mains. Of our starters, I especially liked the soft-shelled crab and the chick pea, but the scallop and octopus were also very good--and preferences among us differed. For mains, I preferred the sea bream and guinea fowl tikka; we also had lamb kebab and a lamb biryani. We all wanted the rose water, pistachio, and salted caramel kulfi collection for dessert, so no variety there. The food was all beautifully prepared, with various different kinds of seasonings and accompaniments, and it looked as good as it tasted. Another reviewer has stated that the restaurant is peaceful, and it is, but the tables are also well-placed and private. So many restaurants today are so noisy one can't hear oneself think, much less have a conversation without shouting. Kahani is a great place for both dinner and conversation. Kahani is not your everyday Indian restaurant, and I recommend it strongly.

Superb from scintillating starters through majestic main and topping off with divine desserts.
Front of house as always greeted us in their traditional reserved but revered standard... the food; what’s really key here.. was unashamedly Indian. Some other fine eateries are for some unfathomable reason pretending to be ... who knows what.. yes Tamarind I’m looking at you...
Kahani.. tells its own story, rooted in the history of a land where culture is all, its unashamedly an Indian restaurant..and with such a gorgeous story to share.
Clearly girlie and I love this place... perhaps you will too.
