This is the third time I have dined at this restaurant and as on previous occasions the food was superb! The service has also been very good previously, however this time was exceptional due to a bubbly but professional Romanian waitress that served us. The only thing to watch out for is the description of the deserts which do not relate to the actual plate of food that is put in front of you, however they were delicious.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant!!
As they were a bit overwhelmed with Mother's Day and their buffet, we had to wait for our table, which when it was set up, wasn't great. However, they were apologetic and compensated us with prosecco and a couple of free sharing starters for our large party. The food was good overall.
We went for dinner at Karnavar last Saturday evening. After reading a lot about this restaurant I was very curious to try it out. Food was very good, the entire table was happy with their choices and all dishes where every well presented and tasty. Well done to the Chefs! The let down on that evening was the service, there is a lot of work to be done there. The bar was packed with dirty glasses the entire town we were there, we could see the person behind the bar checking her phone on several occasions... Nobody checked on us to see if the food we were OK with our food...also none of re person who served our table was able to give a proper explanation or give a confident recommendation of any dish. It was a real shame because food really met our expectations. After reading the Head Chef has worked in places like Claridges & Mandarin Oriental... We were expecting much more from the service point of view. We will probably return as the food was nice and hopefully the front of house will better than.
Real Indian food and a plesent atmosphere , informative and helpful staff. Nice bit of pork.
Was fantastic value, and a truly special dining experience. Quality and variety of food was excellent
We love Karnavar! Beautiful modern Indian food with authentic flavour.
They are very tight on the amount of alcohol for the Champagne brunch.
Food was incredible but staff are not that attentive or friendly.
It's quite expensive for what it is but a fun day.
Blown away by our Valentine's night dinner at Karnavar. Never eaten such heavenly , creative and authentic cuisine. So glad we found this gem of a restaurant near where we live. This place is a must visit if you come to croydon side for sure . Ambiance, staff all welcoming and soothing indian music in the background. Chef's brilliance and midas tocuh evident in all the dishes and no wonder we keep going back to this foodie heaven to make speical occasions more memorable.Thank you Karnavar.
Indian food like you've never had before. Very different from your regular curry
Excellent food, very creative cuisine, polite, friendly staff, enjoyed the evening out
Had a lovely valentines meal! The valentines set menu was definitely worth the value! It came with a three course meal plus canapés and a house cocktail. The setting was cute and calm, service was excellent! The meal was outstanding, flavours were firing beautifully in our mouths, the lamb was so tender, the scallops so fresh and all were beautifully presented. We don’t normally go for fine dining as we’re never full after, but here we were well fed, great portions, delicious and service was great! Highly recommend!
This was our fourth visit to Karnavar and the food was fantastic as always. It’s particularly good if you’re vegetarian though the meat and fish options are delicious too. The only downside is the mocktails that are always overly sweet and a disappointment. We’ll still go back as the food is amazing!
Very disappointing we were expecting Indian fine dining and the food we got was at best average. The price was NOT average the meal was £100 for 2 with a small carafe of wine and 2 beers! The service was something else they squashed all the customers into the front of the restaurant so it looks busy from outside when the rest of the restaurant was empty. The table
Next to us were half way through their starter when the waitress brought their main course and just crammed it onto the table!
After telling th waitress I was drinking sparkling bottled water TWICE she put tap
Water into my glass.
When we didn’t finish all of our food not one waitress but 3 came to ask why not like an interrogation.
VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED I will never return and never recommend could of gone next door where often go for half the price lovely food and good service.
Had a wonderful evening with my wife.thought it would be quiet on a wednesday evening,,the dining room was full. The food came in good time.Delectable food, good presentation, and engaging but non intrusive service.good one.....
I was quite disappointed withthe service, it took ages to get the popadums, we asked for the chicken curry to be made extra hot but it was not hot at all. Also we got served rice and the curries first but our naan (which we had requested to be well done) did not turn up for a while only after we complained and that too it was soggy. Indian food eating order is Naan first!! Very disappointed and won’t recommend anyone for a special occassion! They did take the curry and the popadums off the bill but that did not change the fact that it was our anniversary and we had sneaked in some lone time to enjoy our dinner together and it turned out to be quite disappointing. I would expect a Michelin star restaurant to not only serve good tasting food but also good satisfying service for an overall good experience.
We rally enjoyed the food and the service make us feel comfortable and relaxed. Food, including desserts it’s different in a positive way. Very interesting concept and well executed dishes. We will definitely be coming back there.
Though not here for several months, we were recognised quickly by the young Hungarian waitress and her colleague. Staff turnover at the Karnavar is infrequent. The restaurant was not busy on Thursday evening and the service was efficient and well spaced. I am not a fan of very spicy food, so I chose thebeetroot chat as starter and the kali murgh chicken. Both tasty without being mouth-burning. A good South African chenin blanc went well with it all. Definitely somewhere to which to return yet again
My wife and I enjoyed an absolutely outstanding meal at Karnavar. Curry festival consisting of several dishes per 4 courses. Every dish served was good and several were of a very high standard indeed. No surprise Karnavar is in the Michelin Guide. We look forward to returning soon.
Best Indian food I tried so far.
We had the dinner 2-course set menu which you have to order between 6 and 7pm. The food was excellent with delicate flavours. Service was excellent: attentive without being over-attentive. This was our first visit to see what the restaurant was like but we'll definitely be going again, possibly to try its tasting menu.
Delicious food and lovely champagne - this is a real fund. Particularly appreciated the care taken to ensure dishes were gluten free. We have already booked our return visit and expect to be regular customers.
Good food actually excellent food but the ambience and interior didn't match. Wish they placed some Indian instrumental music or even some better music than r n b to compliment the excellent food.
Fantastic and interesting food. Beautiful restaurant. All I would say is the cocktails seem kind of watered down.
Really gorgeous food as always and great service too!
Came for the Christmas lunch tasting menu which was excellent. Imaginative take on Indian food. Highly recommended.
Absolutely beautiful food and wine. Great service and value for money.
Did not enjoy my first and last visit to this place. Service was very slow, not alot of food choice. Only chicken they use is Thigh not breast. Very overpriced for what you get. Would not recommend, also do not favour places that add 10% service charge to bill, service did not warrant this fee. Paid 80 pounds for 3 meals and didn't hardly touch it.
Great top-notch interesting Indian cuisine. Wonderful food!!
Perfect food and service every time.
This visit was date night with hubby.
Also child friendly when we've taken kids along on other times.
A small but perfect find!! Lots of busy large tables, but we given as much attention as all the others, on our table of two - surprising and welcome! Food was fantastic - pancakes. dosas and omelettes were an interesting and savoury start - hot and fresh; followed by a few visits to the salad table that had some really unique 'riffs' on what one may normally find - really tasty cray fish and avocado salad, interesting sardine salad and some great sauces and condiments to go with! Third course was Tikka and Kebabs and Pakora (salmon) - out of the fryer and into our mouths! Brilliant salsa with fish (descibed as a tropical tartar sauce), Chicken was delicious, all good and we were asked if we wanted more - twice!
Mains were excellent - I had roast lamb - fabulous spicing and good pink interior, my partner had Belly Pork, which melted before us!! Again we were asked if we'd like more!!
Desserts were a trio of Indian favourites!
All in all - a lovely surprising experience, for twenty five pounds per person!
You would need about two hours to eat the sunday menu!! Enjoy!
This is a class Indian restaurant. The food quality is outstanding.
On Sundays they do a rather unconventional, multi-course, buffet-type lunch which was delicious but took rather longer than the time we had available. Service was good and professional but perhaps a little slow. We will come back one evening to sample the full a la carte menu.
This is clearly one of the very best Indian restaurants in London and deserves its Michelin award.
Our fave local resaturant that never disappoints. The food is simply stunning, great service and am happy to pay that bit extra for the amazing quality of the food. Manoj and the team have made this by far the best restaurant in Croydon
Fab, fab, fab as usual. Can thoroughly recommend. Delicious food.
I was really looking forward to visiting Karnavar again having had a great dining experience before. The food was excellent tasty and beautifully presented. However, the service was well meaning but chaotic. The manager was rushing around fire fighting and the staff at times seemed overwhelmed. It took them almost 1 hour to take our order. A great shame that the service does not match the quality of the food.
We waited for over an hour without our main meal arriving. The service staff were very indifferent when we asked for our menus (as these were not provided automatically) and also about the delay in getting our meals. We had a plate of poppadoms and drinks, which we left money on the table for, and walked out.
Lovely meal, thoroughly enjoyed it and would go back again.
Booked this due to TripAdvisor ratings. Food was good but slightly overrated in my opinion....service was slow, portions small but tasty. I probably wouldn't return in a hurry although It was nice it wasn't extraordinary in my opinion
everything was excellent from the beginning to the end.Highly recommended
Delicious food. Great service. We will come again.
Beautiful food, attentive service, fresh ingredients; completely different from any Indian restaurant I've ever been to before.
