In Clay Cross, easily accessed from Chesterfield, Mansfield and Alfreton, is the Kathmandu Ghurka Restaurant, a dining room having more in common with the far off Himalayas than the rather more local heights of the Peak District. Run by a former British Army Ghurka soldier, Prem Bahadur Malla, Kathmandu brings all the flavour of Nepal to Derbyshire, not only in its menu but in its friendly, welcoming atmosphere too. A comfortable and attractive blend of classic British décor and touches of Eastern influence too, Kathmandu’s dining room is a place to relax and unwind with friends and family while you enjoy the delicious offerings of the kitchen. The menus are as diverse as the region that has inspired them here at Kathmandu, combining traditional and contemporary flavours in well presented dishes made using healthy, authentic and exotic ingredients. Such is the care that has gone in to every aspect of the Kathmandu Ghurka Restaurant that the team are absolutely confident.

    This is the third time we have been here for a meal and it never fails to impress us. Service is friendly and efficient the food is a joy , with an extensive menu full of authentic Nepalese food all in all fantastic

    Nice to be warmly greeted as you enter the restaurant then shown to your table and asked if you're happy with it. Excellent choices on the menu with explanations given when asked of some of the dishes. Good food / cooked well and nicely presented. Well worth a visit

    Great good. Well worth the drive. I had the Kathmandu chicken special it was very tasty. Cones with rice and nan... good price too.

    We only recently found this little gem.. food is the best around definitely worth the drive. We have never had a bad meal..

    A nice change from the more usual runs of "Indian" restaurants. The food is good but not particularly outstanding, and the portions are generous. Of the 4 Vegetarian Momos (dumplings) ordered, one was badly broken and shouldn't have been served. Unusually some pork is on the menu, and the sauces with the dishes are very tasty. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we're impressed by the fact that their charity work which is geared towards the school children of Nepal, is so generous.

    Visited while on a break over Easter. Excellent food, attentive staff and value for money. Would definitely visit again if we lived in the area.

    Booked a table of 8 for a family meal out last Sunday evening. The service was very attentive and we enjoyed the self help buffet style Sunday option, although the usual a la carte dishes were an alternative for those who wanted specific choices. The wine selection is fairly priced, the evening was enjoyed by all

    this was our 2nd visit. The first visit was excellent, this time we were disappointed. Food & service was good 1st glass of rose wine excellent ordered the 2nd glass which to me had been watered down this was returned 2nd class better. ON checking the bill we had been overcharged for a nan which was refunded - how many time has this been done and unnoticed. Karen
