We generally lunch or brunch at Kendall's Brasserie before the opera or play, but our last visit was for an early post opera dinner. Everything was perfect. We were seated immediately and the impeccable service commenced with our seating and continued unabated throughout. Our meals were delightful, perfectly prepared and presented (steak frittes and pork tenderloin). The portions were more than generous and we had to take a box home. The ambiance, quality, and of course, the proximity of Kendall's to the Ahmanson and Mark Taper theaters and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, as well as the Disney Concert Hall, make this venue perfect on many levels.
It was a disaster. I always go there before theater so I’m there about six times a year. Because of my back, I always specify in the reservation that I need a booth. Despite there being several available, I had to argue to be seated at one. We were seated at 5:15. Took about 10 minutes for the waiter to come over. Took our order. I ordered fish my friend ordered steak. Around 5:40, we were starting to get antsy, and hungry, and asked the waiter where our food was. At 5:42, your (adorable) manager came over and said that they did not have the fish (barramundi) I ordered but they would comp the salmon. Fine. Food arrived at the table at 6:08. Bear in mind, that we had theater tickets for 6:30. Salmon was overcooked. There were purple chip like things on the plate that were like rubber and inedible. There was purple stuff on the plate that was lukewarm, and in general it looked like the plate had been sitting under the lights for quite some time. My friend had ordered a salad, which should’ve arrived long before. It was wet. It did not have too much dressing on it it, was just wet. Very weird. Her steak was also overcooked and looked like it had been sitting around for a while. So, this is not an enjoyable dining experience. We bolted what food that we could have time to get to the theater and use the restroom and everything else that women do before the a 2 hour play with no intermission. Our meal was comped, but, that is not really the point is it?
I have had very slow and unacceptable service there before, but I always go back because it is convenient. But, now I am really glad that there are other dining options in the complex. It was not a very good experience and my friend was pretty upset, and had indigestion for the rest of the night because she ate too quickly. So, you asked!
Really great service, and an overall excellent dining experience.
We were so pleasantly surprised that a dessert was brought to celebrate an anniversary. I had marked it on the reservation but forgot to mention it to our waiter.
Wonderful waiter, thoughtful. prompt during a busy after opera time. Food was divine!! The Cassoulet a la Toulouse, France was terrific. The steak/frits as well. The chocolate brownie with pistachio ice cream was wonderful.
The food was excellent! It seems the menu changed for the better.
We sat near some sort of bar. We were too close to the bar & would have liked more of a separation.
It became very noisy while we were there. Is there adequate noise insulation in the flooring? I wonder why there is floor tiling instead of carpet.
All together, it was a vast improvement. Thank you!
I preferred the "old" Kendall's (white tablecloths, napkins, and silver) to today's Kendall's (bare concrete floor with throw rugs, beautiful walnut woodwork painted over, bread plates so flat you can't keep a piece of bread on them).
The old attention to detail seems to be lacking. After looking at my Niçoise salad, I finally figured out that the hard-boiled egg was missing. Yes, a first-world problem; still, it shows lack of attention to detail. But it's so convenient to the Music Center that I'll probably continue to eat there.
Going to Kendall's before the opera or a play is like having an old and reliable friend that never disappoints. It's a comfortable feeling that''s hard to describe. I suspect that people dining there for the very first time that same feeling of casual and comfortable ambience. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't go there before an opera or a play. I highly recommend it to anybody who just wants to have a relaxing and delicious meal before a show.
I love Kendall's. I have been going there regularly in the last 7-8 years at least.. This is a great place before concerts. I love your bread. Don't like corkage fee. Prices could be a bit lower too. Keep up the good work.
First we were given lunch menus, so when we were ready to order we were told we had the wrong menus. Then once we ordered, my friend specified that she is allergic to onions and ordered the steak Tartar with no onions. I ordered the fish. My fish came out so raw (it was not sushi) that I could not eat it and had to send it back. My friend’s food ended up having onions in spite of her request and had to then ask for Benadryl because she started having an allergic reaction. So while the staff was helpful and our dinner was comped in the end - it was not a great experience.
Nice restaurant great service and food. Planning on going again sometime soon
Kendall's has a large, darker and quieter room to the right as you step into the front door. We were seated at a small table and were joined by an understudy actress in the show about half way thru our meal. The food was expensive but very delicious. The cooking was a bit on the French side - fine with me. I had French Onion soup and Salmon Avocado Toast. Mouth-water-ing-ly good! My friend had a steak with frittes (French Fries). Very tasty. We had wine and water to drink. We bought our friend the understudy a lass of a fruity wine. A very fine dining experience.
While the service was alright, the food was poor. The food choice was limited and certain items on the menu were not available. The quality of the food was below average. We have dined here many times in the past but after this experience I don't think we would return again.
I went to Kendalls before theater. It was a nice atmosphere and practically in the Music Center so just one parking. My friend and I as usual shared the mussels and a salad. Though we enjoyed the mussels they were not really hot and were much smaller than in the past and the sauce did not seem as vibrant as we both remembered. We will continue to come back to Kendalls for an easy, pleasant, good tasting meal at a reasonable price and good service.
Kendall's has a varied menu and excellent service. It is one of my favorite places to dine when at the Music Center. Yesterday our food was excellent, the service was impeccable but there was a woman seated at the bar who was obnoxiously loud and distracting during the majority of our meal. There was a couple seated opposite us who asked to be moved because of this woman's distracting and laughter. Perhaps if this is the case the patron with the loud laughter might be reminded that not everyone in the restaurant is interested in her jokes, or stories.
The food was amazing and they were mindful of our time before the theater. Raw bar was superb. Scallops are a sleeper hit.
Outstanding food, service and ambiance.
The new menu lacked some favorites like the Beet Salad and the new Burrata Salad didn't seem fresh and creamy as it should be. The Steak Frittes was not as tender as in the past. But if you are not regular theater customers as our group, the menu is very sufficient for all patrons. However, the standby Roasted Half Chicken was as good as always and you won't go wrong ordering this dish. What makes this establishment so enjoyable to go to is the staff, especially Ralph, Israel and Xavier. These guys make our theater experience complete. We look forward to dining at Kendall's on our theater nights.
Staff was amazing. My wife's entree was supposed to be dairy-free. The plate delivered was not that. We didn't recognize the difference, however, before she consumed two forkfuls a new plate was delivered with apologies for the error. She had finished her glass of wine and asked if it was possible to order a half-glass instead of a full glass. Waiter left and returned with a bottle of wine and served her the half-glass. These are the touches you remember as a customer. I may be wrong, but it seems the prices have changed considerably since the 2018-19 season. Otherwise, we were pleased with our visit, and will likely be back again.
Pork Tenderloin was an outstanding dish. Excellent mix of perfectly cooked pork and surrounding vegetables.
We chose Kendall's because of it's convenience - we were seeing a show at the Ahmanson. The food was just okay and the place definitely needs a face lift. We ordered the lobster steak combo for 2, and was surprised to see how small the portions were. Definitely not made to share. The desserts were by far the best dishes of the evening. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back. Expensive for such a mediocre dining experience.
We have eaten at Kendalls for years, and they really got it together a while back. But something has changed, and his soup is smaller and does not have the amount of cheese and was tasteless. We had to send the french fries back twice before they were warm. The cold shrimp was mushy. We have never had such a bad meal there.
We ordered the mussels after asking whether they were really but that was a mistake, they were small and mostly overcooked.......
Great service and food!
Excellent all the way around as always. We frequent this place whenever we are attending an event at the music center in Los Angeles.
We always come before the theater but considering we had 6p reservations for a 8p show, our waitress was so slow we barely got out in time...really poor service tonight
I enjoyed my food, but my wife didn't enjoy hers. Overall it's too expensive for the quality you're getting.
The main reason I return to this restaurant is for convenience. The location is perfect for pre-theater dinner. The food is just ok, especially for the price. The tables are very small & overall the restaurant feels cramped.
Kendalls is the perfect restaurant to dine at when attending any of the venues at the Music Center or at the Disney Hall! You only need to park once and enjoy a wonderful lunch or dinner without the hassle of moving your car. The ambiance is great and the variety of food in consistently wonderful. The prices are reasonable and the amount of food one receives is ample. The service could not be better. Why would anyone want to go anywhere else!
Very convenient to the Music Center for dinner before a show. Delicious food with a French feel. Service is excellent.
good pre-concert service with focus on pacing meal to make curtain time but not feeling rushed.
Outstanding service. Sumptuous pork tenderloin with pineapples and lentils.
I recommend it because of its convenience before shoes. The staff is friendly, but I feel it is over-priced and has too few reasonably priced options. I would be happy with a cheeseburger or a beef dip sandwich or some sushi appetizers.
The food was disappointing for the price. Service was good. We were glad we sat outside since the inside noise level was insane.
I am always impressed with your staff. Really nice, friendly servers!
Great food, great service.
Very nice restaurant steps from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Great atmosphere and cocktails. I had the Le Burger, which was very good. My partner had the saffron risotto, which was a little pasty and dry. Overall nice experience.
The main waitress was great but there was a female assistant that did not seem to belong and did not have pleasant manners. Other than that the food was great and the main waitress and others helping out were amazing.
Pre opera dinner. The short ribs were excellent.
While it was the Kendall's we typically know and love, our server was the most inattentive and least great, we have ever had.
if it had been our first visit, we might not go back.
