King Shabu Shabu-Redondo Beach
Shabu-shabu literally translates into "swish-swish," referring to the action of cooking food in the pot, as the finely sliced beef requires only a brief amount of time immersed in the boiling water before it is ready to eat.
At King Shabu Shabu™, we strive to bring you the freshest ingredients and a memorable dining experience that allows you to be the cook.
We made reservations for 5. When we arrived they put us at a table for 4 so two of us shared a pot. They did have a larger table open but they said it wasn’t available. No one sat there while we were there.
Service wasn’t great. Waiter must have gone on break after taking our order. Had to stop random other servers to ask for forks for kids and plates/bowls for those of us who didn’t want rice. Food was bland. We tried the miso and pork-bone broths. Very watery. Didn’t care for the peanut sauce but the ponzu was good. $168 for 5 before tip. One alcoholic drink. Quite expensive for what we received.
My family is a regular customer and this time we brought
The food was better than good but not Outstanding..if this is your first time with SHABU...you will not be disappointed
Great place to go with family, good food and a fun experience
Great staff and food!
As usual, King Shabu did not disappoint. We like to bring friends here for a different experience (and sometimes a bonus steam facial). The food is delicious and healthy and the beer is ice cold with happy hour pricing. A match made in heaven.
Love this place - great food + drink!
King Shabu Shabu is the best around. The employees are personable and enjoy their job and explaining the foods and cooking approach to the customers.
Love this place!!!! So enjoy the environment, great service and food is awesome!!!
Valentines Day - with wife and adult daughter.
We have been here twice, last week and this week. It is our new FAV spot!
This is a restaurant that really needs to get its timing down. Despite a reservation, we waited a half hour to get our table. That said, it’s a fun experience cooking your own food. The ingredients are of good quality and you leave feeling you had a healthy meal.
Fun with kids!
It seemed to be a slow night for them when we got there for dinner on New Year’s Eve. There was 6 of us and 3 of us had ordered the spicy miso broth which they charged an extra $2.50 for, but I got the least amount it seems because our waitress didn’t do a very good job with pouring evenly out of the single container she brought out so I got very little spicy broth poured into mine. As my broth tasted likely simple water still, and our waitress never returned to check on us in the corner, I had to waive down to ask one of the waiters to give me more spicy broth and he never even returned with it. I ended up trying my fiancé’s regular miso broth since no one was coming back to our table and his was very flavorful, plus his broth flavor was free.
I live quite far from this restaurant, but the NYE party we were going to is nearby and a few of my friend’s live near there so that’s why I suggested this place for our dinner spot. At least the premium meat we ordered was good and vegetables were fresh. The best thing I liked about this place was that they have the very spicy hot oil drops, but you have to ask them to put it in your sauces. Which reminds me, I was out of sauce to dip with for quite some time because their service was so slow. Our whole table never received a refill on water through out the whole night. I was a waitress once, and that’s unacceptable to not check on your customers.
First time there. It was fun. The staff was very nice and very concerned with our experience. It's got individual cooking pots and you cook your food however you like it. Kind of expensive for the food. The beer was cheap but good.
Nice new location. Same great service
Great food and staff. Will definitely be coming back
Very fun experience!
The food was fresh but not very tasty - found it all to be very blan.
Big place. Good if you are a large party
For parties of 4 or less the Torrance one is a far better experience
Great service and fun for our whole family. Thank you!
Food is great, service is outstanding, very clean, and we didn’t get rush at all!
Everyone was so courteous, professional and helpful. The food was awesome. We all loved cooking our own meal. Fun evening. Will definitely be back.
We eat here often. It is fun place to dine, food & great & service is excellent. We would highly recommend dining here.
My friends and I visit King Shabu Shabu all the time. We absolutely love the food and the staff knows us by name! It doesn't get much better.
Been our favorite shabu shabu place. i love their vegetable choices. Workers are very friendly ace is always clean.
Really great service. The waitress was very friendly and patient with our questions. Very accommodating. We stayed near closing time but were never rushed to leave.
This is a great hidden gem. Great crew working there gives it an awesome experience. Fun staff, easy menu with good options. Get the Prime Rib Eye its great! Beer and sake prices are very reasonable as well.
Shabu shabu is one of those dishes that relies exclusively on the quality of ingredients provided to cook and assemble your meal. I’ve had mediocre, good and great shabu, all for about the same price point. Unfortunately, King falls in the mediocre category
Veg-good variety, low quality
Rice- low quality, Luke warm
Meat - flavorless at prime choice level
Sauces- just above open a jar quality.
To sustain a following, sauces need to be complex, rice needs to be perfect, meat flavorful, vegetables at their best, freshness is key.
Anything less will close within 6 months. Shabu is not a novelty. California shabu in Santa Monica was 10x better, less expensive and still closed down after several years of rocking all categories above.
This was our first time here it was a great experience and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Great food will definitely return another time.
Great staff, very fun experience
Shabu shabu is the best dinner experience. It’s interactive and the food is delicious!
Had been there several times during the past year and will not return. Don't trust your reservation with the clueless host. We had a reservation for a party of 3 for 7:15. I walked in the door at 7:23. One waitress recognized and greeted me and asked where my kid and husband were. I said they were waiting in the car because we usually had to wait even with a reservation. She said to take a seat in the waiting area. Five minutes later the host greeted me and asked for my reservation. He disappeared into the back and came out at 7:32 looking nervous and said we were too late and he gave our table away. He continued to explain that they hold the table for 15 minutes. I said that I was there before the 15 minutes was up and he said, "Yes, I greeted you at 7:28." I was really puzzled then because I was clearly within the time limit and there were several tables open. Then grasping at straws, he said that the rest of my party wasn't there. I corrected him and reminded him that I had explained that I was going to get seated and order for my husband and kid so that they didn't have to wait in the restaurant. He still refused to seat us at a table because we were 8 minutes late for our reservation. He should have realized that you would try harder to accommodate a repeat customer after he had mistakenly, prematurely given away our table. We won't count on them again for a dinner reservation.
This is simple the best restaurant ever outside of going to Japan! Very authentic. My family and I drive an hour and a half just to come here.....YES IT'S THAT GOOD!
I was looking forward to taking my daughter here for her 16th birthday with family and friends. We had a 6pm reservation and arrived on time. Before we were even seated we were told by the manager that there was a 7:45pm reservation after us so we would be warned to finish up. WTF! Who says that? Once we were sat down our waitress arrived to take our order. We explained it was our first time here and needed advice on what to order. She was nice enough to explain the menu then walked away so we could decide. It took her 15 min to come back to take our order. Once our food arrived it was fun enough cooking the food but the level of service was bad as rarely were we checked up on, our water was drying up and the heat needed to be turned down. We had to wait forever for someone to come check on us. I wanted to have my daughters birthday cake at our table but because they took forever to clear our table, we had to move to another smaller table across the restaurant. Our dinner turned into what could have been a 1 1/2 hour dinner to a 2 1/2 dinner. The meal is pricey too but I figured service and ambience would make up for it, but not the case.
Great food, everything was prompt, meat came out very quickly. Kyle did an outstanding job serving our table. Must try if you have not been.
First off, super service from Noelle, but all are attentive to our needs. Fun activity & healthy menu, even impressed the few teens & millennials in our party. 6 of us seated at a table with 4 stoves. Even though not a problem for couples to share cooking pots, space was a little tight that way.
Food looks good until you cook it
Extremely bland it’s boiled meat in a weak tasting broth
