Fairly limited menu which was fine for me but maybe not everyone. Most of the food was fairly bland in flavour, it’s not an adventure in taste & texture. You’ll need to purchase a side order or too to go with the main course as there wasn’t any vegetables with ours ( we checked on ordering) The main courses were under seasoned ( pork & lamb) one of the starters tasted a little burnt, the desserts of rhubarb & floating island were delicious though. The wine list was reasonably priced. Overall it’s ok but if you’re looking for fine dining or special, you could do better .

Welcome was very average The moment we were seated we were pounced upon to order drinks and food even though we didn’t have menu !!! The speed and rush continued throughout the evening which ended by being made to feel we had overstayed our welcome Food was ok but nothing special and rather expensive Won’t be returning or recommending Certainly not as expected

April the first and we were certainly fooled. Pay up front and wait 2 months for Pastry Club. Then you arrive on time, but have to wait for your food to start arriving after nearly an hour, while staff ask if you need another drink while waiting and increasing your bill. First - 1 Cheese sauce filled Profiterole, no announcements, just all customers staring at each other not knowing what to do. I ate this. Second - 1 Frogs leg in shredded pastry, a spider has more meat on it and it was under cooked. I ate this. Third - 1 tiny Vol-au-vent with 2 snails and very strong garlic. I left this. Fourth - Pate on shortcrust. Actually it was a water crust pastry pie of Morels and smoked veal and very nice. I ate this. Fifth - Lamb Biryani, was pretty, but only to look at. Badly under cooked. I left this. Sixth - Egg custard, 1 small taste left me feeling ill. Around 20 customers left more than half of theirs. The taste was really bad. I left this. Finally - 1 tiny doughnut with very sharp raspberry sauce and flowers that tasted of compost. Chef Degg is reputed for his skills on Great British Menu and J Raynor thinks its good here. But outside the restaurant afterwards the consensus was everything was really bad and there was a lot of food returned to the kitchen. Customers agreed that you should not have to pay in advance when you do not know if the food will be good or bad. April fool, yes you got us really bad. 3 hours of upset with hardly any food edible.

I knew about the head chef and his work at Harewood F&D, so I booked Pastry Club in advance (£90) - a treat to end my 30th birthday weekend with my partner. We arrived on time, food was only served after about 40 minutes. No comment from staff or explanation as to what the food was. Generally, the staff weren't equipped with the knowledge about the food they were serving as well as the drinks they were making. The food was mostly great to look at but that's as far as it went. I was looking forward to the Pate En Croute and Lamb Balti, but in the end the cold cheese ball was probably the best thing served. The Pate En Croute - a cold slab of meat. The mustard was nice and made it bearable. My partner left half. We were told it was rabbit, veal and something else. Lamb Balti - barely edible with an overwhelming taste of cardamom. The food within the crust was in a sort of 'sack'. Again, no explanation about what was served. My partner cut into hers and left it believing it to be raw. I now agree after seeing other comments about the same dish. After a disastrous dinner ranging from cold cheese balls to what felt like the eating trial on I'm A Celeb, the Egg Curtard looked like a slice of heaven that might cleanse your pallet between chugging any liquid within arms reach. Wrong, it was essentially a horribly tasting egg slice. Many of these seemed to go uneaten. Overall, the experience was disappointing and a massive letdown. What started as a relaxed evening soon turned into an uncomfortable experience. Other guests in the restaurant looked equally confused and disappointed. Many full/half-eaten plates were going back to the kitchen, and I suspect this is why staff never actually asked how the food was - it was inedible and they didn't want to know. In the end, the night just felt like it was dragging on. We were told to come hungry but left feeling hungry and sick. We were told to come with an open mind but this is an understatement, the food was just bad.

It's the second time we have been to Pastry Club at Kino and it's just brilliant! What a great idea! Both the quality of the food and the thought that goes into putting the menu together are outstanding - I'm not surprised it's starting to sell out fast! Having guest chefs is another good twist and Josh Whitehead deserves a big pat on the back for getting this concept going. Totally original idea and an exceptional night out!

Kino is fantastic, the staff are attentive, helpful and friendly. The food is absolutely outstanding. They were so kind and helpful with my Mum who walks using a walker, nothing was too much trouble, Jamie put us at a table nearest the door and the staff took the walker. It was also an absolute bargain as it was one meal for Mother's Day and your Mum goes free! Outstanding. Thanks to all and I'll definitely be back.

We had a wonderful evening and as this was our first Pastry Club ; we loved the way the menu and ingredients were dripfed and the element of surprise. The food was magnificent, definitely come hungry and prepared to take home doggy bags. Each dish was creative, beautiful and the evening kept us engaged and excited. Food was generally okay, but I found a lot of it was very salty, even my lentils were incredibly salty, so much so I wasn't able to finish them. The waiting staff didn't seem particularly knowledgeable, at one point when the food was brought to us, we were asked "who's is who's?" just from sight alone and then had to figure it out for the waiting staff. Then just some little touches weren't in place such as no wine list on the table, then when we were provided with one, we didn't have quite the same amount of time to select a wine. The candle went unlit until we requested it to be lit. Ultimately it wasn't the worst experience, but I won't be coming back I'm afraid

Fantastic menu and none of the food disappointed. Servers seemed very inexperienced and lacked knowledge but made up for it with enthusiasm and politeness. Examples being: -water top ups were very slow and had to ask multiple times with tiny glasses provided; - waiter hadn’t heard of the wine we ordered (Chablis) and asked us to point it out on the menu; - took 3 attempt to get the bill right. This didn’t spoil our meal or experience overall which was great! Hopefully providing specific feedback to the restaurant may be helpful for them to improve service. The food was wonderful and service was enthusiastic and very polite but just very inexperienced I would guess. We will definitely go again!

They have a very good pre theatre menu which we enjoyed - the lamb was excellent; the vegetarian option was good but not great. A very unusual and tasty celeriac soup but the star of the show was the chocolate tart. Absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a lovely ambience and service was efficient which was surprising given the number of diners. A lovely experience. Would go again and highly recommend.

The lamb my partner chose was superb. My risotto was a bit dry and lacked any real definition. Nothing really showed through as a basic flavour. The pud of cake plus brandy snap was original and most enjoyable. That pulled the rating back up from three to four. Service excellent, pleasant but discreet attention always impresses. I would go again but avoid the veggie meal.

We were sat in the newly opened basement which had 6 tables and one waitress the soup came and I asked for bread only to be told that the bread had run out which is difficult to believe in a city restaurant surely someone could have got some. There was only one salt and one pepper for the six tables, Our main course arrived and both were not the lamb that we ordered so had to go back to the kitchen which duly came after a delay and we had ordered extra gravy so we had to wait for that. Both the soup and the lamb were tepid. We won’t be going there again - very disappointing and not cheap

Initially disappointed that only the pre-theatre menu is available until 7pm, however the food was faultless and served by real people who while helpful were thankfully not ingratiating or obsequious in any way. The ambience was perfect, well lit with soft background music. Such a pleasure to be able to both see and hear one’s dining companions.

We had the Leeds Restaurant Week deal, some of the food was delicious (venison pie!) but some was a little strange, with main ingredients (crab, chocolate) being overpowered by the sauces they were served with. The service wasn’t great, it seemed they had lots of new staff who hadn’t been trained that well. We were brought other peoples food twice and plates for mains started being cleared when some of our group were still eating. It was quite a pricey meal with desserts and drinks and I wouldn’t return for the full price menu, but would give it another chance with an offer like this. The ambience was lovely though!

Attended for the first time to sample the Eat Leeds restaurant week deal and wasn't impressed. The building and decor is lovely. We had plenty of time to admire it though as our starters took 45 minutes to come out. My pate, the restaurant's signature dish, was surrounded by raw pastry (which was surprising from a restaurant that offers a 'pastry club'). The mains were well cooked and I enjoyed the duck dish, but it wasn't something I would tell my friends about or prompt a return to this restaurant.

Our table was booked for 17.30 so we could be in our seats atGrand Theatre for 19.00 hrs. We were on time. Initially everything worked. Our order from the simple menu was taken promptly. My first course came reasonably quickly but then our lamb main course took ages. Two ladies who came after us had both their courses and had left before we got our lamb. We had to gulp it down. It was good. My husband couldn’t enjoy his delicious tart because of the time restraint. The waiting staff are very young and need supervision and the tables should be served in order. It spoilt our evening

Great pre-theatre set menu and good portion sizes. Warm and friendly welcome on arrival and we appreciated that our server was on the ball and made sure that we could dine and pay in good time and before we needed to leave for the show next door. Toilet facilities were clean. A little put off by the waiter/barman who had a lot of undone buttons on his shirt. The tables were a little close together and noise levels slightly too high for our liking. We enjoyed the meal overall and will definitely be back.

The starter came very quickly, but the rest of the meal was quite slow. The main course , lamb, was very pink which was fine for us, but usually staff would check with the customer that that was ok. Didn’t like the chocolate tart - the flavours didn’t blend too well. My husband had an upset tummy afterwards - don’t know if it was connected.

This is the second time we have eaten at Kino for a pre-theatre meal. The set meal had increased by about £5.00 per person from last October. My friend and I both had the celeriac veloute, which was delicious but in small bowls. I ordered the Yorkshire lamb and my friend vegetarian risotto. My lamb was very nice but my friend’s risotto looked as though it was a child’s portion, although he did enjoy it. Altogether, with wine and coffee plus a service charge, the meal cost around £75.00 and, given the small portions, this is not value for money. We will not be returning.

The food was bizarre i had the risotto and terrine. The risotto was a real muddle of strong flavours that was utterly confusing. I love risotto but not this type.

The food was amazing and would appreciate more set menu like 2 course for £25 being offered more frequently as an affordable option for those that otherwise would not get chance to dine at Kino.

First time visiting Kino and we’ll be back soon! Food was excellent as we’ve come to expect from Josh - he knows his pastry. Menu was great, everything on it was exceptional - great combinations and well sized portions. Only score drops were for the service (for the room, not necessarily our table) being a bit bumpy and the fact that a few things we ordered weren’t available, but it wasn’t terrible. Overall very pleased to have finally tried Kino and to have enjoyed it as much as we did.
