Find us in the heart of Flinders Lane, a stones throw from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, and discover three levels of dining. Our modern sushi bar and restaurant sit in the basement and ground floor, while Kuro Kisumé sits discreetly on the first level. Kuro, our most bespoke experience, encompasses The Table, two private dining rooms, an elegant Chablis bar and Winewall specially-curated by Philip Rich.
My girlfriend and I went to Melbourne for a long weekend. Always been a fun for fancy Japanese food but Kisume kinda let me down, first of all it’s the service. It’s definitely not a fine dining level, we didn’t even get all the menus( as we were sitting at the sushi counter but only got an a la carte menu), there was no introduction of the restaurant, what kind of dining experience we would like to pick, the waitress just came to us 30secs after we sat asking for drinks. Even a smaller restaurant on the Gold Coast cold do better than these. The food I would say it’s okay, I mean fresh but not impressive. Sushi made with Grilled tuna band tuna toro together just ruined it all... we saw sea urchin when chef was preparing for other guests and we had to ask to order. isn’t the purpose of having waitstaff is helping improving guest dining experiences.
Excellent food, however was quite pricey
Also there was a credit card surcharge on all cards, given that meal was approx $150 per person, is it fair to assume people carry that much cash in person?
Service on wine was very slow. One small plate food order got "lost" and then was served at same time as main plate. Otherwise great food and venue and service.
The food came in at good intervals with explanation of what we were being served. Every dish had amazing flavours. We were 9 in total & we all enjoyed the food. The liquor selection was also great with so many Japanese wine & liquor to choose from. A great night overall
Delicious food, and incredible service. It’s a bit expensive but you get what you pay for in terms of both food and service. Definitely recommend.
Best sashimi and kingfish, sushi wasn’t as spectacular but still good. Steak with froie gras and yakiniku was delicious! Sardines and eggplant underwhelming. Will return.
Quite the experience sitting up at the counter enjoying the performance of the sushi chefs.
Exquisite food and wine.
Disappointed experience overall at this restaurant. The food was ok, the service was in absence at times.
The main issue is we were asked to move upstairs if we want to have dessert because they need to take back the table. There is no dining session allocation nor advised. We're not happy so we left.
Consistent great quality food and experience every visit.
The restaurant interior was modern and simple with the black colour. Then the foods were fantastic delicious. I would have chef's special next time. We had a great time and satisfying dinner last Saturday.
Really enjoyed our time, food was amazing. Service was great however a small mistake with what wine I choose could have seen me parting with more than what I was expecting! It was easily sorted once the bottle was presented by the somm. Tooth fish special was sold out and we were only told once we went to order it!
Always a wonderful dining experience @ Kisume. I wholeheartedly recommend the Omakase experience. A wonderful way to experience what fresh fish and seafood taste like. Wonderful service topped with wonderful food. Keep it up.
Great food excellent service, would have preferred 1 staff member for ordering etc, as there was mixed suggestions on food. But all service and food was to a high standard.
So far so good. However we waited for 45 mins (after our main) for another hot dish to be serve?! where the waitress should follow up / check on it. Only after we asked twice, the dish is finally been served.
Since they appointing different waiter waitress to each table , then the service should be good?? The only bad experience on the delayed / forgotten meal. Otherwise it would be great.
The price are slightly over especially the $25 scampi. For that price I expected to be a bigger scampi not a little one. The bigger scampi at fish market is around $80/kg. Be given a small scampi for $25 is a huge rip off. Also the Sunday surcharge I think is a bit over and what’s worst is, they charge extra credit card surcharge on the tips I give to the employees. So on top of the usual credit card surcharge on my bill which is fine but the tips I give has credit card surcharge as well? I might as well not give tips.
AMAZING!! Can't wait to come back. The food, the service and the restaurant itself are all superb.
Very good service And delicious food
From the moment we walked in we felt special. We had a lovely table and noticed the waiters picked up on all we we said & made our dinner very enjoyable. The food was exceptional, from the sushi to the lobster tempura. To finish off we had 1 dessert to share which was delicious & made even better with the team acknowledging my husbands birthday with a chocolate birthday wish. A little pricey overall but delicious. Would love to visit again.
Servings were small at fairly high price, so value was not great, albeit the food itself was good. Our server was quite aggressive in trying to push more plates at us. So I would make a qualified recommendation to others.
We had the Kisume Tasting Menu ($88pp). We got our three first three dishes quickly and almost at the same time but when we finished all the appetizers and waited nearly half an hour for the fourth course.
It is really “surprising” that not every dish is measured by the number of people. There aren't even enough staples in the whole meal. When we were only half full, the dessert was served. We are all amazed at the amount of food.
In terms of the quality of the food, Apart from the steak, it was nothing special. Not everything is fresh. Overall, the experience wasn't worth the price.
Pretty disappointed overall. Food was ok, but not great. I'd been wanting to dine here for a while now. The best bit was the bbq'd edame so all went downhill from the first stage.
Oysters were great, I asked where they were from and a tall strange man appeared at my shoulder. He seemed to be overshaddowing the staff in an intimidating way. It really spoilt the experience of dining at the open bar.
Great service and food
Our table waiter was phenomenal and I hate to put such a low score on service but everyone else was completely disinterested, unprofessional and absent minded. Food rest of venue looked cheap.
The food was outstanding and the service staff were knowledgeable. However the timing and sequence of dishes was odd. eg. sushi delivered after main course dishes? Second bottle of wine arrived after we'd finished eating. I feel if I dined at Kisume again I would provide instructions on the sequence of dishes and line up the second bottle of wine when the first was finished.
I felt the service was below average. It started well when we arrived, but throughout the dining and moments before we left, everything was chaotic. Staffs weren't attentive at all. The staff was not apologetic when the dessert came out without the 'Happy Birthday' writing as I was pretty sure it was the request that I've put on. At the end of the omakase dinner, we went over to the front counter to pay as non of the staffs attended to us when everything was done. We were told rudely by the front staff that we weren't supposed to make our payment there and someone would assist us at our table. I will not dine here again.
Best meal we have had in a long time. Nothing to fault! Can’t wait to go back.
The food was nice looking but just too salty. The waitress started clean and wiped table while we still seated there. It was still 1/2 hour before the restaurant closed . Looks like she just wanted go home earlier 🤔
First visit of this chic and chilled 3-level Japanese cuisine jewel box, where futuristic decor and utensils meet the authentic Japanese technique. Amazing sushi omakase experience but be prepared that this is in no way for the audience who pursues the traditional Edomae sushi.
This was a very appealing, elegant and varied menu. Very nice presentation and calm authentic Japanese service environment. Wide ranging sake menu. We enjoyed the tasting flights of Saki.
Average tasting menu. For somewhere as talked about as kisume I expected more interesting dishes. Komeyui is better for this in my opinion. You won't go hungry though as the portions are a good size.
I booked this online for my partner and I specifying in their ‘special occassion’ section it was our anniversary. When we first walked in the hostess was abrupt and straight away asked us if we were doing the tasting experience implying not too because of the large groups in there doing it and the time it takes. We were instantly confused and found it overwhelming, she then took us to our table congratulating us on our anniversary and saying she’ll start us off with some champagne, we straight away ordered a bottle of red wine too.. the food was really great however our experience was completely tainted by the fact we later noticed on our bill the two glasses of champagne cost $68. We were happy to pay good money for our food we ordered and wine we asked for but felt like our hostess completely mislead and took advantage of us with the champagne. It’s enough for us to never go back there unfortunately as it leaves a bad taste in our mouth about the whole restaurant
Our party of four had a fabulous dining experience starting with a whiskey flight, sake and chef stand outs including scallops, succulent oysters, and charred octopus. Service and ambience were absolutely faultless. We were seated at our table tucked in a quiet corner within 20 minutes of arriving at the bar, 30 minutes ahead of our booking. However, we would recommend a re-think of the unisex bathroom plan and suggest signage or re-design to ensure that guests are mindful of other guests as 2 of the 4 stalls had significant 'fresh spray' on and around the toilet area such that they could not be used safely from a sanitary standpoint. Our friends that used these 2 stalls found the experience very surprising and amusing and were laughing about it while we waited for our coats to be retrieved, but it slightly marred the overall experience after a wonderful dinner.
All of the food was immaculately presented and the flavours were amazing but not overpowering. Each dish was fabulous and complemented the previous one. The staff were knowledgable and able to explain the wine and Japanese cocktails offered. The only part of the night which detracted slightly from our experience was feeling we were rushed by staff from the beginning. Whilst we were aware there were other sittings we did feel the need to hurry.
We had a great time at Kisume, the food, service and ambience were all wonderful. We will be back!
Outstanding food with overwhelming flavours and tastes that left a long lasting linger great feeling
We had an amazing experience at Kisume! The service was very attentive and informative about the menus and options. The food was delicious and easily the best sushi I’ve ever had! I’m glad we chose the counter seats where we got dinner and a show while the master chefs worked their magic! Can’t wait to visit again :)
Very underwhelming. Food was nice enough but very plain and over priced. Had the tasting menu and expected to get the best 'tastes' from the kitchen so was disappointed.
Considering this is a Japanese concept, they have an unbelievable wine list
Exciting menu, good execution and lovely service from floor staff. Booked a table however had to wait over an hour before my omakase meal started. The seasoned sushi was innovative and was fresh and great quality. But I was very disappointed to find bone in my sushi and nothing was done to correct or compensate. I was lucky not to choke but felt embarrassed o had to spit out a mouthful of food.
Great food - great service. With so many choices in Melbourne to eat. Very happy to cheese here. We will return!
