Kith / Kin
Celebrating his heritage ranging from Nigeria and Jamaica, to West Africa and the Caribbean, to New Orleans and New York, and now immersed in The Wharf of Washington D.C., Chef Kwame finds his culinary impetus in everywhere he's from, everywhere he's been, and the influence of those who know him best.
We invite you to share in the story. To indulge in flavors with substance. And to take a seat at the table. Because this is a place where all are friends and a member of the family.
Welcome to Kith/Kin.
The jerk chicken was delicious! Save room for the rum cake!
It is always a pleasure to dine at kit/kin
I had the Red Snapper and plantains it was euphoria, can't wait to return and work my way up the menu.
Everything was good. Food, cocktails, and service. Not a place to go to all the time as it is on the high end, but when looking for a place to go for a special occasion this is it.
Unique menu, wonderful spice blends and flavor profiles. Enjoyed a celebratory dinner with family. We should have ordered on fewer entrees, we were full. The flavors started to be difficult to distinguish with so many different choices. All were delish!
Had to go a second time before reviewing. Kith/Kin is simply a breath of fresh air! Ambiance was amazing both times. Service is better today than the first time. Our waiter kept forgetting us the first time but it was a busy day. Not a fan of the everything carrot salad because I don’t care for the fermented carrot taste. Moroccan Pork belly, Jollof with oxtail or wagyu short rib, and bbq jerk chicken are out of this world! The oxtail falls off the bone and is so juicy! For drinks, Chef Kwame’s favorite (cocktail) is the best! Also had this pineapple and passion fruit mocktail that was so good! Didn’t make it to dessert both times but I will next time; I have my eyes on the lemon puff puff. And the habanero sauce with dinner roll they give you the moment you get seated; one word - WOW! After only two visits, this place is now on my fave list!
Great place for a date. It's in the Intercontinental Hotel. Sleek, upscale but not snobby ambiance. Service was very good. I had the Jollof w/ fish., which was very good. I liked that I could customize the spice level since I'm not fond of too spicy. My date had the Goat Roti which he like very much. The Brussels Suya was our appetizer....simply delicious. Better than the Brussels at Tin Roof in LA if you've ever been there. Overall. everything was good and the fact that this is a young Nigerian chef that started this, was most impressive. Classy!
We couldn't say enough good things about Kith/Kin. Our waiter was fantastic. Extremely well versed in the menu, and in the theme/history of the restaurant and chef. He went through the whole menu with us, and gave us comfort in our choices. He was also attentive in returning to the table periodically to check on us, and to refill of glasses with the Moet we ordered. For a main dish I had the Jerk Chicken with Braised Cabbage and Coconut Rice. My friend had the Braised Oxtails with Jasmine Rice, Pigeon Peas, Glazed Carrots. We were both blown away at how fantastic it was. Even the warm bread rolls they served as starters were amazing. They were about the same size as a tangerine, and they were heated and severed at the perfect temperature to be soft and to almost melt in you mouth, with a mild buttery taste. One of the best starter bread/rolls I have ever tasted. We also had a great Cucumber & Avocado salad made with Goose Berry Piri Piri, Marinated Cucumber, Asian Pear, Puffed Quinoa as a starter. There is also a wonderful selection of drinks, wines and sparkling wines the this place. The ambiance there was very laid-back and "chill". We were having an early dinner so we got there like 5PM at the very start of their dinner hours. In fact we were one of the first few couples seated. The place started to fill up at a fairly good pace by the time our food came, but still the place wasn't overly loud. The sun was setting about this time, and so the ambiance of the sunset outside, the indoor lighting, the decor of the restaurant, and sitting next to the window right next to the waterfront made for nice atmosphere. A great place for couples, or having a fun evening out with friends. We had actually gone there and had a drink at the bar area the day before we had dinner there. The bartender was very on-point and very friendly. I would highly recommend Kith/Kin, be it for dinner in the, or just for drinks at the bar.
Great menu - lots of appealing, innovative choices. Octopus starter w spicy lentils was excellent. Ambiance is ok, feels like a hotel restaurant, which it is. Service was fine but could have used more guidance and insight on the menu. Prices are very high... short rib was good, but not $46 good... for that reason would go once but not repeat.
My favorite restaurant. I’ve been several times and recommend to my friends and family. I’m hooked on the Brussels sprouts & Mama Duke shrimp!!!
First time there and I was really impressed. The service was great! Definitely coming back!
Service was good. Price point kinda high for small appetizers. Entry prices were high but good portion sizes.
If you looking for authentic Jamaican cuisine, this is your spot. Excellent service a plus. Good drinks..
Reserved lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant is situated in the Intercontinental Hotel. But it is situated along the Wharf's walkway with plenty of windows, such that it has a stand alone feeling. The menu is a creative blend of Jamaican and Nigerian cuisine. Menu selections are true to the chef's background. We relied on our waiter, Eric, for suggestions and he was excellent in guiding us through the menu and presentations, degrees of spiciness and other hints. We shared "Uni Escovitch", a mixture of avocado mousse, crab meat and lobster on a crispy solid wafer, spicy but with a sweet blend. Hands down delicious. My partner ordered the grilled octopus, which was expertly prepared and tender, while I had "Mom's Duke Shrimp" which is chef's mother's recipe. Whole shrimp with yellow rice, prepared so fluffy, and a gravy that made the dish the best entree I've had in DC in a long time. We paired it all with a reasonably priced bottle of champagne. You will be so pleased with this restaurant. Highly recommend.
I had been looking forward to this for weeks. I won't be back - total disappointment. Service was terrible. Noise level was out of control and distracting. We couldn't hear each other speak. Dessert was the best thing we ate. Brussels are as good as they are anywhere else. Nothing unique. Goat Roti - don't ever need to eat it again - I must just not be the right guest for this place. Nothing special at all!
This restaurant is in my neighborhood. And I always love to try places in my area. The service was impeccable. The food never disappoints. It is a must to order the Brussels Sprouts as an appetizer...absolutely sensational, sweet & savory! I ordered the Jollof Rice with Short Ribs and they were absolutely tender and the sauce on them was beyond! My friend ordered the Ma Dukes Shrimp and she said it was delicious! But something that both left our mouths open and savoring every bite was the Plantain Sticky Bun ! Good lord that was one of the best desserts we have ever had. My fried ordered one to take home. Thank goodness we didn't finish the one we ordered, so I can enjoy it this weekend! I thank Kith/Kin for such a memorable, palette pleasing, gorgeous meal.
Excellent location and ambiance. Service was just "Ok". I had the Jerk Chicken, my friend had the Ox tails. Both dishes presented well, but the flavor was rather "coarse" in my opinion (well my body as well) I Left feeling very lethargic, as if the food contained MSG. Good place to JUST hit up happy hour and keep it moving.. NOT A CARIBBEAN EXPERIENCE IN ANY WAY..
Very interesting menu, great cocktails. The atmosphere is typical 5-star hotel, nothing too interesting.
One of our favorite meals of all time
I visited for my birthday. It was a positive experience. I highly recommend the braised ox tails!
Very inventive cuisine and great drinks!
Wow ..... what a disappointment! It was so loud when we walked in that I was shocked and that turned out be the only tolerable part! It was a challenge to get our servers attention. We had to ask 3 times for a glass of ice! Ice! Not a hard get. We had to ask for the actual wine list and then ask the server to help us figure it out. We had to ask for one person’s drink 2 times and then it came partially wrong. We ordered 3 “starters” to share and 2 of the 3 came with no spoons to serve them with. We had to ask for them each time and then wait while they searched for servings spoons. The food tasted good but the portions were small and the prices too large. I won’t go on because we never ordered any more food, our server said nothing, the manager said nothing, we paid our check and moved on! Too bad because I was celebrating my birthday! We dine out A LOT and we will not go back to Kith & Kin and certainly tell our friends to “skip it” too.
Dined at Kith / Kin for lunch on a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon in January. The atmosphere in the restaurant with the huge windows facing the harbor was perfect. Service was thorough, knowledgable, friendly, well-timed - simply great. And the food... wow. First of all, everything that passed by our table looked amazing - fantastic presentations! Our meals were also beautiful and delicious. Started with the grilled octopus and the mushroom appetizers. I enjoyed the goat for my main lunch entree and my companion had the oxtail. Everything was perfect - bursting with flavor, expertly paired with various condiments and other complimentary additions. Oh, and dessert - had the Habenero Pepper dessert and it was light and refreshing - just yum. Very happy, overall wonderful experience. Can't wait to return!
The service was *excellent* but the food alternated between too salty or bland. Given the price (about $25-$35 for entrees) it wasn't anything special.
Amazing! Food was fantastic, staff was so nice and very knowledgeable. My only regret is we didn’t have time (or room) for dessert. I can’t wait to go back.
This is a great restaurant - excellent food, good portions, and very professional staff! A little pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
Fantastic experience all around—great food and service!!
The food was ok. It is lightly seasoned West Indian Food. As someone that has been to several Caribbean countries and appreciates West Indian food I found that the flavor was just ok and could have used more spices and seasoning.
Our waiter was good and attentive. But found the hostess and others to be less than personable.
Probably won’t go back any time soon. There are better options in the area.
The food was a bit uneven. Some dishes such as the grilled octopus were superb and infused with flavors but others such as the Brussels even with lime juice seemed too sweet and overpowering. The goat roti was flavorful but the meat was tough. Mom’s shrimp was delectable.
It was so bad. I had to return several food items and then they tried to make up for it with complimentary dessert and beverage and that was even worse! I had a stomachache for two days. Such a bad experience and we went to celebrate a special event. So unfortunate.
Nice locale and ambiance. However, the value of the meal was lacking when comparing the taste and the portion size with the $$$ charged.
The drinks were great! In the future it would be a great spot to grab drinks!
Look, I don’t write reviews ever, but this place is amazing. Like I might have my engagement party here. Like my baby shower. Maybe every special event in my life. Do they host weddings? That is how good this place is. You’ll never get the flavors out of your mouth and I’m Jamaican and it was better than home. I’ll be a regular. They will soon know me by name.
Birthday Dinner. Great food and conversation.
Excellent food. Excellent service. The staff was attentive, helpful, knowledgeable, and very patient with us as we took our time leaving at the end of the night.
Wow. The service this evening was incredible. The food alone would’ve done the job for an excellent experience, — but-and-still, the service left such a kind and lasting impression.
Food was great. The flavors!! Yum. Music excellent. Atmosphere. - fantastic.
Kitchen somehow forgot our entrees. Told the waiter we had them. Nothing. No management apology. No free dessert. Free cocktail. Nothing. Interesting resolution. Which was basically no resolution.
Everything was great!
Tasty interesting food with a lot of kick. Interesting but expensive cocktails.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday here. The atmosphere is cute, romantic and perfect for a date night or celebration.
The staff there is attentive, knows the food very well and gave recommendations. Our server who looks like Obama (I’m sure he gets that a lot) was amazing!
We ordered the brussels(must order), octopus (good, but nothing to write home about), the oxtail(so tender & flavorful) and the jerk chicken(didn’t have the jerk flavor we expected it to be, but it was Smokey, crispy and tasty).
DO NOT SLEEP ON THE ROLLS & SPICY SPREAD!!! It was a surprise to us how amazing they were.
