Kokomo's Restaurant - Old Lyme
Wonderful afternoon on the beach on a November day. Warm on the patio with heaters. Just perfect! Staff was great and food exceptional!
Going to Kokomos is like being on vacation. the food is good, the service is good and they have half bottles of really good wines. And try the cocktails!
Unusual take on a pig roast but was pleasantly surprised. Everyone loved it. Great place to eat outside on the sound. Good menu selections and variety. Wish they had heaters though. A bit windy.
Eat brunch on the beach! And get the lobster Mac and cheese.
Parents nights out for the first time in a LONG time. Our seating and drinks were a bit rocky but once the fire pit started roaring and our glasses were full we enjoyed every second of our time at this gem. Will definitely come back again for another outdoor date experience.
GREAT spot, right on the beach!! Can't beat sitting at a table with the sand between your toes and the surf crashing just beyond. Food was mostly pretty darn good - can't complain about the cheesesteak, although there can always be more beef! Fish tacos were good, but not great - we've had better (and worse!) elsewhere, so these were middle-of-the-road. (The tortillas weren't real fresh, and got soggy fast.) Salad bowls were really nice, but not too huge, shall we say. Drinks were great - no complaints there! Overall, a solid performance with a great view and vibe, so we'll likely be back!!
Had never been there before but was up in the area and wanted a beach view.
Very nice ambience basically sitting on the sand. We had fish & chips which were good and not greasy. It was relatively quiet because it was off season. Will go back to try the bbq pig roast on Sunday and clambake on Saturdays. Would be great with a fireplace and closed up with windows for the winter.
Thee staffcwas very pleasant. We went on Sunday...their Pig Roast was heavily promoted on line, web, print ads.
When we got there I would have expected to smell a pig on a spit after all it's a pig roast!
What was offered in fact was pulled pork from the kitchen with Mac and cheese. Hardly the build-up of a pig roast with Caribbean's sites!.
Pricing was overpriced for what it was but I get it it's on the beach after all. Food was average but tasty.
Would possibly go back just to be on the beach and dining but that would be the only reason.
Again staff was very accommodating but the build-up before going did not match what was delivered in the dining experience.
Horrible service horrible food nothing else to say I’ll NEVER go back
Good was very tasty. We liked the flavor of the hot wings. Only issue was that the wings came the same time as our dinners.
Came out here for a pre birthday afternoon lunch with my husband and had a great experience. Our server was very attentive yet allowed us time to enjoy the outdoors when warranted. The establishment next door was playing music, so that was a nice touch. Despite the mixed reviews I read regarding the meals, the food was very good. My husband had the whole belly clams and I had clam strips. Both cooked perfect. The drinks however were very weak. I’m pretty sure there was less than the standard pour in the mixed drinks we had. We ended up ordering a few beers as well in addition. Overall, we had a good time and will be back to enjoy the scene. We will just order beer or wine. No biggie.
It was very good. Have been there before. Service very good, friendly staff. Great view.
If you like sitting on the beach and enjoying eating great food, drink and service then come to Kokomo's. Parking is a little tough in the area but they have valet parking so pull right up to the sign.
Cold steamers , took an hour to get a lobster roll and fish sandwich- we were the only other couple there and order was placed then other people arrived after. Great view, nice waitress however food is really just mediocre- however I would go back for the view and drinks.
Great service and laid back beach vibe. Food was great, will definitely be back.
We went on a cloudy Wednesday night post Labor Day but it still had a great vibe. Atmosphere was great, food was really good, frozen daiquiri terrific! Service was great and all were super friendly. Will definitely go back.
Great sunset dinner on the beach! Can’t beat buck a shuck oysters.
Very overpriced and the food was very disappointing. The only good thing were the nice fresh oysters For one dollar on Tuesdays.
Will go back again. Great service, food & setting
You can't beat the ambiance... Sand between your toes is always a good thing. The food was great although the portions are a bit small and everything is a-la-carte... Including refills on your iced tea! To our surprise, they do not serve coffee or desert I suppose so we finished dinner and moved on to ice cream elsewhere. :(
Great place for sunny afternoon or early evening meal. Right on the beach with good social spacing and efficient and friendly staff.
Excellent Service and very fresh seafood with a wonderful view!
I don't know how I didn't know about this spot. It was right on the beach and loved that beachy feel to it. Food was very good and drinks were great! I will be back for sure.
Wasn’t what my girlfriend and I expected. We made the best of it and our waitress and all the staff did a fantastic job tho.
Muscles, and scallop special were really great. The bees were terrible at 1pm ish. Unbearable at some points. I get it there is nothing to be done about it but it really ruined the meal.
Service was prompt and drinks were tasty.
There was no parking available and the lot attendant directed us to their overflow lot a couple of blocks away. Although the lot by the restaurant was free for 2 hours, he told us the overflow lot was $10 for the first 4 hours or $20 for the day. He had followed us to the lot where we paid the $10 dollars and he took our keys. He drive us on a golf cart back to the restaurant. After retrieving our keys and walking back to the lot, we saw a sign that had been blocked when we arrived that said parking was free at that lot for the first 2 hours early. That put a damper on the evening to start.
We enjoyed being on the beach although the music in the lot next door was a bit loud. Patio seating was pretty much inside and a little crowed for our taste. Our server was new, but she was very pleasant, helpful and a plus in our view.
Pretty disappointed it was my birthday and the service was awful! Asked to buy two sweatshirts four times. From the waitress, the host, and the bus boy. We had to ask for our water and the bees were ridiculous everyone around us was complaining. I was overall really just disappointed.
The space was great, the water was Beautiful, refreshing cocktails , delicious food!! Had a great day with my family.
Great food but some Of the clientele was a little rowdy! Great view!
Hot Lobster roll was $25 and literally had 2 chunks of lobster meat, one claw.
The free parking was limited and we had to park at a remote lot - 10 minute walk. The service, while quite pleasant, was slow. The food was quite mediocre - my crab cake sandwich had a hint of crab, with lots of breaded filler with pieces of fish. The bathroom was unisex and not clean. Do not go out of your way to go to this restaurant if you are looking for a pleasant seaside dining experience.
Food was awesome. Eddie needs to be promoted to wait staff. The kid has a bright future in the restaurant business if his baseball career doesn’t pan out.
We had a great time at Kokomo’s. I can’t say that we have ever dined on the beach. How cool. The servers were working very hard but it did seem a bit unorganized as we had to wait for a table even with reservations. We will go back. I think some type of boardwalk down the middle for the servers would be helpful.
Parking was a pain so I suggest getting there early to look for a spot or to wait for one to open in their small lot. Almost everyone we interacted with was wonderful and friendly especially the valet, the hostess Hailey, the bussers, and our great server Caroline. Not so much a couple of other employees, one in particular that might be the manager but luckily it was a brief encounter. It's definitely a team effort here and they said they were busy hence getting seated after 7:30 when our reservation was at 7. We were brought to the sitting area to order drinks while we waited but no one came for 15 min. However, when we did order anything, it was brought in a timely manner. Menu is viewable online, most likely to prevent people touching them during Covid however, it would've been nice to have been told that right away when we were sat. Again, employees seemed busy and maybe a little overwhelmed. We were hesitant to come here due to multiple bad reviews across various platforms but we really wanted to be on the beach, toes in the sand so we figured it could still be worth it. It was. Service overall was good, everyone was attentive once we were sat at the table and friendly. Caroline really was great, didn't bother us while still making sure we were happy, and she was very efficient and saw to it that our orders were exactly as we wanted. Decent drink selection. Food was good, fresh, and brought out quickly. We had fried mozz- one of the best we've had in a while. They come as triangles with a good marinara topped with ricotta, pesto and micro greens. This is a must if you like fried mozz. 3 different oyster selections- fresh and just what was wanted. Clam strips-seasoned well and a generous portion. Cod sandwich comes fried but for an up charge can be seared- was a nice size and fresh, cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Truffle parm fries were delish. Was able to see the beach during sunset, a rainbow due to the sprinkle of rain we had, and we walked the beach.
I really don’t like to give reviews of restaurants because it could be hit or a miss. However we drove 55 minutes to come here and experience was... well disappointing! Restaurant HAD huge potential! Beach front, great location, great ambience. But... limited parking AND it fell through with menu options. Wanted lobster bisque (no lobster so no bisque and it was just 6:30) so I ordered calamari... it was cold. Slow service (waitress not a happy camper). Ordered linguini with white clams sauce. Linguine was about 1/8 of a lb with 5 clams for price of 24.00. Desert: no coffee, only 2 items for desert. Total price of 120.00 for both wife and I. With that said, we were able to meet up with our MA friends for dinner and ice cream down the street was great.
Need to improve food quality for such a lovely location. Service was great, food needs to improve
I can't think of a worst restaurant experience. After an interminable delay, the waitress finally took our order. The main course was delivered, followed by our drinks and then our appetizers. While all the food was delivered, albeit in the wrong order, there were no eating implements and the waitress was totally aloof. We retrieved our own forks and knives from the service station. We never did see our waitress again and had to get the hostess to deliver our check as our waitress vanished. This is a place where you could have a quick bite at the beach but I would not call it a restaurant. They should consider turning it into a stand up bar and bistro instead of pretending to offer table service.
Food & location is hard to beat when looking for a beach themed outing.. only problem is extra expense & distance to parking
Incredible spot right on the beach. Feels like you are on vacation. Although Covid presents its challenges for all restaurants, Kokomo’s has met that challenge. I have yet to have a bad meal. The ahi Tuna was delicious. And everything else . The mojitos are the best I’ve had dining out in a long time (although, like everything else during Covid, sometimes they don’t have mint to make these). Wish there were more restaurants like this on the Connecticut beach shoreline.
food was good, service was SLOW and just SLOW. seemed like there was only one server for all the tables, must have been 4 tables and she couldn't keep up. maybe it wasn't her fault, but someone should have stepped up and help her. I would have loved to have another drink but didn't want to wait for one.
