Elegant Japanese restaurant in Grade-ll listed building in Victoria. A warm welcoming, followed by brilliant dinner. Tasty food, excellent sushi, very relaxed atmosphere, wonderful and helpful staff. Japanese whiskies and cocktails we amazing. Highly recommended.
Great food and very very kind and nice Brazilian manager and waiter.
Great food at a reasonable price!!
Food was alright, service was poor. They brought a dish that had sesame when we told both waiters that someone at the table was highly allergic. At which point no one told us if it was in the dish until we asked repeatedly. Management came over after we paid our bill and said next time we came they would give us dessert and coffee. Will not be coming back
Very well presented Japanese food that tasted delicious.
We reserve table and we end up at the bar eating
We stay have hour we have our food quickly and we went to another ti have our wine
The reception guy was not professional restaurant was empty and he insist to put us upstairs at the bar
We told him we reserve table and he insist that it’s our reservation
Except that all was great food and sushi chef , waitress all was professional
I will not go again because if the reception guy
Great service and very accommodating as we took our one year old with us and we felt very welcome and had a good time
Great food, beautiful venue.
Cocktails, cocktails, cocktails. Based on the ones we had, spot on. The sashimi starters were excellent, loved the yellow tail truffle. However, our main courses fell short. We went with the lamb chops and ribeye steak, and requested both medium rare. Either we got a bad cut of meat or perhaps should have gone with medium cooked as the ribeye was chewy and not easily edible. Luckily dessert saved the day.
Food was good. WE focused on sushi/sashimi and soft shelled crab, which were all good. The Bento box was fair value. But the drinks were very expensive which pushed a good quality meal at quite a high price towards the stratosphere for what we had.
Service was very slow. Patrons taking a table at 6.00pm are likely to have something go to; but it took 45mins to get our main sushi/sashimi patter and starters, which on a fairly quiet evening was tedious.
The restaurant is nice, but fairly overpriced for what it is.
We had the 7 course tasting menu, and I can’t say that it blew my mind. Don’t take me wrong, the food was tasty, but not worth the hype/price we paid.
What was mostly upsetting, is that after supposedly seven courses, we went to Leon and managed to eat a whole burger and a side each. The portion sizes were so small, you are left as hungry as you were before the meal. And whilst tasting menus are always small plates, this felt like a joke/rip off when we saw the final bill.
Tasteless meal. the food had no character and it is the first time in my life we cancelled the rest of the order. The yellow tail was too sweet, the crab not crispy, the california had no taste at all and was watery as if the crab was not fresh but canned.
An appalling excuse for a meal that was not cheap. Service was Lazy and noone blinked when we cancelled the food and got the bill levaing most of the meal on the table.
Only memorable thing was the Sake which was a good bottle but it did cost over 60 GBP. Dont go if you like food. Go for the style maybe.
Everything was great, food was super tasty. We will definitely return.
The experience was okay. Nothing exciting or spectacular. The fish was good but not mouth watering as some Japanese restaurant in London. Service was amazing and location is good.
Excellent choice for pre-theatre meal. Service was quick but friendly. Can not fault the food - went for aubergine and soft shell crab starters and sushi platter for two as the main. Mini birthday cake slice was a nice touch.
Truly love the food and ambience. Super fresh
Bones in the cod and lamb raw, had to send it back to the kitchen.
Very decent food, service very good, a nice place but left us a bit cold. Near Victoria Station so not a hot spot but not to take away from a hard working team. Asahi beautifully cold, spicy tuna roll and salmon avocado roll passed muster, tempura prawns less so but fine.
We had a bento box with cocktail which was great- got to sample a number of different dishes- very good value
Awesome background music
Highly recommend for a romantic special occasion
Very good Japanese in a bit of a culinary desert zone. Not far off the top places for quality of sushi, albeit with a slightly more limited range, and certainly better value for money.
Great for pre-theatre dining. Fixed price menu options or a la carte - we mixed and matched and everything came quickly. Food very nicely presented and tasty. Good value for the quality of food.
Had some delicious dishes that I would definitely go back for :)
My third visit to Kouzu and the standard of food consistently excellent. The cocktail list is one of the best I've seen, we are always spoilt for choice and the ones we have tried so far were fabulous.
I wouldn't hesitate to revisit Kouzu and recommend it to others
I booked it for a lunch with a friend, the food is alright, not as authentic or top quality Japanese food as I expected it to be, maybe the dinner will be better. The overall atmosphere was good, it was a quiet little restaurant much smaller than I expected, even so, they don’t open the top floor during lunch time so we were stuck downstairs which was, nothing major but slightly unpleasant.
The pre-theatre bento box and cocktail at £19 was beyond good value and utterly delicious. The yuzu bellini was outstanding, which I discovered when the waiter came to tell me that *my* cocktail order (something with rhubarb and rose) was taking a while and would I like a free bellini to keep me occupied while I waited, yes please, thank you very much.
The two courses for £19 menu was less good value. Still delicious, but go for the bento box and enjoy decent size portions of a bit of everything.
I think our waitress was new as she seemed unsure of many things and had to go ask someone else a few times, but we all have to start somewhere. Other than that, the staff were polite, helpful and very in keeping with such a classy establishment.
Nice ambiance and very attentive staff. We shared the spicy edamame and the tempura soft shell crab. Both were very good and perfectly spicy. The salmon and miso cod for entrees and both were terrific. The wine selection was a bit limited but ok. A short walk from the tube and a few steps from the victory palace theater where we were seeing a show. They had a number of pre fixe options that looked good but we had spotted the fish entrees we really wanted. Also had a nice bar where you could have a drink or dinner. Definitely a keeper
To be honest I was disappointed I went with friends for lunch and we all opted for the fix price menu which when it came was pitiful in size (particularly the main - acceptable for the starter) and also not really pushing the boundaries of Japanese cooking very average. To support this they even came and asked if we wanted extra sides. I think this is unacceptable on a fix prices menu which should throw in sides if they think you need it. The sushi starter was okay but nothing as exciting as I have had at other places and this does sell itself as top end so a shame. The fixed price menu was £24 per person so not dirt cheap either. The service was good an attentive - disappointed they didn't have a cheaper fizz option than Veuve Cliquot. All in all I probably wouldn't go back.
Lovely place hidden away in Victoria. Lovely food and service and the cocktails were delicious too
Early New Year's Eve dinner. Very quiet on arrival, but soon filled up to create a good atmosphere. I was surprised by the lack of Japanese staff, even in the kitchen. However, the waiting staff knew their stuff and the quality of the food was excellent. Especially the Sashimi. Extensive selection of drinks including great Japanese Whiskys helped make it worth going back for more.
V Good service until it busy. Cooking is very good but ambience not consistent with price or quality of cooking or claimed repuation. Service fell apart when it got busy. basement loos pretty poor shape especially for a japanese restaurant.
Very poor service. Drinks arrived after pur DESSERT! waiter chasing other departments with just a sorry for the delays. Overall food was okay, nothing special especially for the cost. Have dined in far more luxurious places for the same costing with 100% better service. Was so appauled i took service charge off which i normally dont do.
Portion size was simply too small - starters more like amuse bouche; mains more like starters. Even with additional rice my wife and I left hungry. Shame as what we ate was decent (albeit not hugely authentic) japanese food, and the cocktails were great.
It was perfect for a quick pre theatre dinner. We went on a weekday so it was quiet and we were seated downstairs. Service was very good; attentive and helpful when we asked questions but not pushy in any way. Food was fresh and served very quickly too which was appreciated as we had limited time before we had to leave for a show and warned our waiter of that fact. I asked in advance (when making a reservation) if a special dessert could be brought to my boyfriend as a surprise for his birthday with Happy birthday written on it. I wasn't sure if the message had been received but the staff brought him something at the end and it was a lovely finish to the meal. Overall I was very pleased and want to return when we have longer to enjoy the menu.
Amazing experience, the waiters were attentive and the restaurant was beautiful and clean.
Very happy with the food, fresh sushi and the waiters explained very well what all the dishes are.
Can't wait to go back!
Sushi chef is more than competent for not being Japanese.
the food was fresh and tasty.
portions were quite small for the menu price.
it was a very quiet crowd with only three tables in the top floor - largely caters for business people.
the service was very attentive
Very authentic food and great for casual Japanese eating. The sushi and sashimi were delicious.
Great venue& food.
It's was my second visit, and its was good as last time. Excellent food and very friendly service.
