We had been looking forward to eating here for some time - and it did not disappoint... quite the opposite. We had pretty much everything on the menu. The deceptively simple Kudu bread and mixed melted butters (seafood and bacon) was a delicious opener, and almost without fail, every dish provided some delight - visually gorgeous with wonderful fresh ingredients, creative cooking and a lovely variety of tastes.
My only negative comment is that the portion size of the lamb braai “medium” plate might serve as medium in a restaurant for Oompah Loompahs, but four adults sharing 2 bite size pieces felt a bit mean. Contrasting with the onglet to share, which was a carnivores delight and in generous quantities.
The wine list is limited but well selected and good value. Cocktails were very good and a little off the beaten track with some house ingredients such as fermented strawberry.
Service was impeccable and super friendly.
We will be back.
A lovely meal, great service and nice atmosphere. Very happy to discover a new place within walking distances from home. Well definitely come again.
My husband and I had a fantastic evening. The food and wine was spectacular and so beautifully presented, and the service was just outstanding. We’re already thinking about our next visit! Thank you Kudu!
Tasty, unique brunch in little secluded garden.
Another hidden gem in Peckham! Menu is fresh and definitely different. There is a cute garden at the back and service was warm and attentive. Will definitely be going back.
The food at Kudu is outstanding - unusual, superbly cooked, so many flavours in each dish. Every single thing was a complete treat. You just couldn't reproduce the dishes at home so it makes it a real event to go there. The service was also great, just the right combination of relaxed and attentive. Really nice people and a very special night out.
Small portions for a high price, we had 3 clams in a very uninteresting pea purée for instance.
Also many of their double tables have seats side to side facing outwards as if on display rather than allowing for comfortable conversation.
I’d recommend it for a one off taste experience, the beef and bread for instance I liked, but I wouldn’t go again. A high price for not much food. Having eaten a lot in South Africa I was expecting more from this restaurant having read good reviews.
We absolutely loved this restaurant.
The decor was gorgeous, the service was personal, the food was amazing.
The Kudu bread with the shrimp butter and the Onglet were our top picks.
The Onglet was incredible.
Super food. We ate from both the vegetarian and non veggie choices and we all agreed the food was fantastic.
Quality of food was great. Beautiful deserts and mains but way too small! three clams in the clam poitjie.. THREE?! That was not on and we left hungry. There is also nothing South African about the food at all!
Our brunch on Saturday at Kudu was fantastic.
The restaurant is very pretty and the weather was great so we got to enjoy the back garden which is very well decorated with beautiful plants and garden furniture. The interior is also amazing; pretty tables, lovely wall decorations and warm colours.
The staff was very friendly and the service was good.
As for the food, most of has had the duck eggs on waffle. The waffle was fluffy and tasty, the eggs were nicely cooked and had huge yolks, the bacon was crispy but juicy and the mustard was a great addition to the dish and was balancing the flavours.
I also tried their iced latte which was great.
Highly recommended and I will definitely come back for dinner!
Overall a pleasant experience. The dishes were hit and miss. Some were excellent like the bread and dipping butter. Others were less impressive such as the carrot based main. I think overall, the price is a little punchy for the size and quality on some of the dishes. The lamb was a little chewy which was disappointing. The dessert was good but not overwhelming. Good ambiance and decent wine list. Was worth a try.
Went based on rave reviews. Distinctly unimpressed by food, ok but nothing special and hugely overpriced for what we were served.
Nice decor, good service, tiny overpriced portions.
Beautiful place, menu was seasonal, super unique and absolutely delicious, staff were a pleasure, top notch night!
Great restaurant with lovely decor, attentive service (but not pushy), hugely delicious food and drinks choice.
Outside eating area is a bonus for the summer months with intimate settings and a great atmosphere.
Would highly recommend to foodies and those keen to explore a new take on South African cuisine.
Food, drinks and service all excellent. Brunch in the beautiful garden highly recommended. Dinner is also a real treat, so try them both.
Great service, very nice food, would thoroughly recommend it
Beautifully designed but very relaxed interior buzzing with people having a great time. Superb food, modern sharing plates of exciting, pretty and original food -e.g. smokey melt in the mouth lamb, heavenly puff of almost croissant like bread to dip into seafood butter, malty-chocolate pud with snap of sesame - highly recommended - superb and perfect service and pretty garden with Japanese acer trees for green mint tea. A sensational evening all round
I was so excited to find a South African restaurant, but a little apprehensive as wells other I have been to have not been that good. Turns out I didn't need to worry, Kudu was great. Super food creative and tasty, little snippets of home classics! The cocktails were very original, the only ace it fell down slightly was the service was only OK. Please open a restaurant in SW so it's closer to home!!
Kudu is great! The food is delicious and the staff friendly. There wasn't much of an atmosphere when we were there but it was early on a Sunday. It is pretty pricey - we spent £60 on brunch for two.
Fantastic menu and service, great atmosphere. Would definitely visit again
Just let the waitress/waiter guide you through the menu, pick anything that inspires you and wait to be surprised dish after dish!
Magical tree in the garden dress by unicorns? Why not. A lovely all round experience, a real Peckham Gem,
The atmosphere was great. We sat up at the counter which id recommend if you like seeing the kitchen at work. They were really accommodating to my wife's request of no dairy. The pre dinner cocktail was excellent and a sign of things to come. The portions are not large but by the time you work your way through all courses it is just the right amount. The service was attentive without being over bearing. Thoroughly enjoyed it and worth a trip to queens road.
Fantastic restaurant, delicious food and vibrant staff. These all make it an all round brilliant experience. Must have the tortellini!
Wonderfully cooked sumptuous food in a beautifully designed space. Waiting staff were knowledgeable attentive and friendly. Menu prices really fair. Highly recommended.
Kudu was great last time I visited and even greater this time round. Fabulous food, atmosphere and service.
Amazing night at Kudu - excellent food, service and atmosphere! Definitely coming back - thank you!!!
Really incredible food! Superb combination of South African and British food with a modern twist. Will be back and will recommend to friends.
I was really impressed. The food was extremely delicious (it was a group of 5 so we tried most of the dishes) and the staff were friendly and insightful. Would definitely recommend and can’t wait to visit again!
Amazing place, food was great. My only real beef was we clearly got the worst seat in the house which didn't feel too good. It was both right next to the toilets so we got quizzed several times by lost people if it was the right way. The table was right by the back door too which was opened 10 plus times by service and kitchen staff needing to come in and out with a cold draught each time. As you get the double header of toilet and door it really pushes the fact that you definitely got the worst table in the house. I would recommend not having the table and putting in a second door or at least thick curtain there as it was too in your face to not taint the occasion. This especially moreso as you have just been led through a very plush cosy looking main restaurant area. I would go back for sure as the lamb neck and everything else we ate was outstanding - I would just call ahead to make sure we wouldn't be in the draughty toilet corridor though. Its unfortunate but when its such an extreme as that, its a big takehome memory of the evening.
Original and fresh approach to modern European cooking with a South African twist. Worth an escapade south the river.
Great little neighbourhood spot, sadly replaced an amazing and authentic soul food kitchen which is sadly missed from the community.
The food here is allegedly South African but aside from a few unfamiliar words for standard things on the menu it tasted pretty European. As sadly with many London places now they do the ‘small plates concept’ explaining without irony that there are three categories of ‘plates’ increasing in size with recommendation to choose one of each (almost like a starter, main and dessert you could say?!)
Service friendly but almost irritatingly over enthusiastic (‘fabulous my lovely!!’ in response to everything) and too often interrupted to be asked ‘is everything ok’ - as if anyone ever says anything other than ‘yep fine’ to this before getting back to their conversation.
Great cocktails and some nice wines, reasonably affordable (it is SE15 after all) and loud 70s disco soundtrack which some might enjoy. Dark and cosy, good for date night, with fun arrangement of tables so you can sit next to each other and both face in to look at the restaurant which was cool.
Such an exciting and innovative addition to the Peckham foodie scene. Utterly delicious - we tried everything! Delightful owners and staff and a very buzzy but relaxed and ambient atmosphere. Kudu deserves every success and we can’t wait to go back.
I didn't know what to expect from a South African restaurant as eating in S. Africa consisted of meat, meat and more meat usually barbecued. This doesn't stray far from the genre but was much more refined with snack sized, small and medium plates. Favourite was a medium plate of lamb neck. This is for grazing rather than for stuffing yourself and for a midweek business meal gave us the time to eat, talk and chill. Go early or definitely book.
Food is interesting and unusual whilst still being simple and delicious. I called ahead to check they had lactose free options, and when I arrived they had made a surprise dairy free desert option just for me and were so helpful with rest of Menu - brilliant service never had that before anywhere! Decor is super cool and the place was packed out and buzzy. We sat at the counter and the stools were comfy and super squishy.
Saturday morning April 7th, I had brunch at Kudu Restaurant which was SUPERB. The atmosphere is vibrant, the service friendly and efficient, and the interior eclectic which I thought fun and interesting. The food was DELICIOUS. Every mouthful was sublime. The portions are generous and the flavours fabulous as the combo of ingredients used are varied and interesting. All in all, I would give it 6 out of 5 stars and am heading back for dinner there soon. ENJOY! You won’t be disappointed
Great food and service, will definitely be going back!
Very good food and service would highly recommend
