Our mission is to provide pure, plant-powered meals that are good for your body. Our approach is knowledgeable, playful, and engaging. We offer a unique opportunity to experience a different way of eating vegetables and discover new flavours and textures. Talented chefs behind Food For Friends restaurant (established in 1981 as Brighton’s first vegetarian restaurant), Botanique (Hove’s exclusive plant based restaurant) and Wolfox Coffee have put together their experience and knowledge to bring you this new Asian inspired plant based concept.
The result is a creative and colourful menu which shows organic plant-based food can lead to surprising, healthy and mindful new eating experiences. We believe in an upgraded casual dining experience in beautiful light-filled spaces dedicated to natural plant-based food and organic wines.

Amazing hidden gem of Brighton; incredible food, atmosphere and experience.
We had a lovely meal and evening, delicious cocktails, really tasty fresh food - no complaints what so ever.
We will go back; so nice to have high quality really delicious plant based food in the area. Thank you,
Such a beautiful restaurant and the food was amazing.
Wonderful food and great staff serving us. The menu was really refreshing and had a great variety. Everything we tried was phenomenal and we need to book again the try the remaining items on the menu!
Absolutely fantastic meal and service, would highly recommend to friends and family.
Thank you very much for making our anniversary perfect.
Absolutely lovely! Delicious food, amazing service, beautiful decor.
Beautifully presented vegetarian and vegan food with all sophisticated, subtle taste you would expect from a good Japanese restaurant. We loved it and keep recommending to everyone we meet.
Oh my where do I start; what a lovely experience our meal out was. The food was exceptional but it was the service that was the best I’ve experienced in years ❤️
the food is excellent, and when we raised am issue, the staff resolved it really well. we'll be going home back - again
Great place to have dinner with friends, attentive staff and delicious food. Let us stay chatting after our meal which was nice not to feel pressure to leave as soon as we'd finished.
Wonderful venue and fantastic food. Unfortunately the service was a little rocky, things were cleared too quickly (don’t take my yummy sauce!) and food arrived at wildly different times (with no warning of apology) this did spoil the vibe a little bit.
A beautifully curated menu, with exquisite flavours, in a calm and elegant setting
Lovely aesthetic, and even better food, really well-developed dishes. For such a new restaurant, the menu is bold and confident. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, a real treasure in Brighton.
Prices slightly above average and maybe a bit overpriced for completely plant based food. But great food quality, lovely staff, beautiful location.
Exceptional food, attentive and friendly service all set in a beautifully designed restaurant. Can't wait to come back!
Lovely restaurant - really great staff. The food was good - a bit heavy on mushrooms, so if you don’t like them, you’d struggle. The decor is beautiful- cherry blossom tree is outstanding. But the music - which was like wedding disco music didn’t quite match the ambiance. Also, more than one toilet is needed or it needs to be moved. You feel really awkward waiting if it’s busy, as the only place there is to wait is either encroaching on someone’s table, or being in the way of the entrance to behind the bar and the door to the kitchen. I’d definitely go back - the gyoza, the lychee tart tatin are delicious.
The food and service were both impeccable. Fantastic menu, great drinks. The staff were lovely and helpful. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu next time.
Excellent food and atmosphere- highly recommended. Lovely cocktails!
Delicious food and lovely atmosphere, my only complaint is that the music was a little loud
An incredible surprise for a meet eating lover of Japanese cuisine. Stunningly creative food.
I was really looking forward to eating at this restaurant as I love Japanese food and I’m vegan. The waiter suggested that my lunch companion and I shared five small plates and we thought that would be too much for us, but he was right because the small plates were SMALL! Especially the tofu dish - three very small cubes of tofu in what I admit was a delicious broth, but definitely not worth £8! The bao buns (two buns for £10) a mains dish was much better value. It’s a lovely space and I feel has great potential but I think at the moment Murasaki at Seven Dials offers better vegan small plates at much better prices and that is where I will be eating Japanese food in Brighton for the time being.
Looks gorgeous, really well designed. Didn't feel practical from a service point of view - I reckon the interior designers don't have much serving experience.
Staff were nice and attentive, although felt very new in terms of processes, perhaps it's recently opened and they're not used to it all yet. Also as mentioned I think the space doesn't make it feel like their jobs are easy (although we sat at the bar so perhaps in the main restaurant the ambience would be a bit different).
Food was fine, slightly disappointing compared to what it looks like. Too many slightly overcooked tender stem broccoli dishes. Really nice cocktails and wine. I'd say not great value for money but glad to have tried it.
Went before. Great restaurant but food was lacking favour. Glad I gave it another go. Truly blown away
Beautiful interiors. Delicious and artfully assembled plates. Impeccable service.
Good bits: The restaurant itself is decorated beautifully and is clean and ambient.
The staff are lovely and go the extra mile to provide a great service. Took a while to take our order but it wasn’t too much of a fuss.
Bad bits: I hate to say it, but the food was a let down. I’m not a fussy eater and don’t like saying bad things about places that support veganism, but really think you guys could improve. The Makizushu sushi is comparable to something you can get from Tesco which wasn’t ideal for the price (£10 for 6 pieces). The Tempeh was also a bit odd too - like a tasteless fried spam that costs £7. I’m not sure if it was the quality of ingredients but was really gutted that the food wasn’t up to scratch, it looks the part and is presented beautifully but doesn’t have the taste to match!
Also, the ventilation is really poor. You come out smelling like fried food - this really needs to be improved.
Beautiful restaurant and lovely ambiance. Service was a bit distracted and slow despite them seeming to have several people working and not being that full.
Only one toilet had to wait in a queue of three.
Food was nice but didn't really live up to the price. Too much sweet potato. Weird western style dips to go with sushi was a little unnecessary.
My cocktail tasted like flat lilt, quite nice?
The boa buns were delicious!
Fantastic restaurant, we really enjoyed our meal all the food was amazing and something different to what we've had before. It was more expensive than we would usually spend but definitely worth the extra!
Excellent plant based food. Very creative menu. Will definitely return
Our new favourite! The food was excellent - we had a great table for 6 of us.
We can’t wait to go back and try more from the menu.
Great service and cocktails in a pleasant environment
Fantastic food and awesome cocktails. Highly recommend this restaurant for tasty vegetarian food
Fantastic, tasty and beautifully presented small plates of food. Tasty and well made cocktails. Neither of our party are vegans but we all loved our meals.
The experience was enhanced by the exceptionally polite and friendly staff. As well as the elegant decor and lighting.
A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.
Really lovely staff and great food :) enjoyed it so much!
The food was incredible, the atmosphere was great. The decor is fantastic and the staff were so attentive I was genuinely very impressed.
Great, very tasty food. Friendly staff. Good cocktails
Great food, beautiful surroundings. Really lovely evening!
Lovely experience, would recommend! Definitely will be coming back.
The restaurant is very well-designed and visually very pleasing. Great taste in design with a great choice of colours. You want to visit it just for the experience of sitting at the bar.
The food was excellent in general, both in terms of taste as well as incorporating interesting ingredients. I particularly enjoyed the dashi tofu and the tempura vegetables. The desserts were also very tasty. The service was great, very accommodating and polite.
Some minor issues were that we felt some of the dishes could have been more reasonably priced for what they offered (nigiri, extra rice portion) or could be more well-presented (baos were stuck together and cracked, maki rice was not as good the nigiris). We also noticed there was no disinfectant liquid at the entrance or at the bar seating and although restrictions have been lifted, I would still expect to have something like that available for customers, considering the amount of infections at the moment. Finally, the music in the bar room was at the level where we could only hear some bass, but not what was playing exactly. It was not annoying at all and I am just commenting on it because I feel the ambience of the restaurant would benefit from the music being more audible without necessarily being loud.
Would definitely recommend and would visit again for sure in order to try some of the other dishes too. The above issues are only minor and mentioned for the sake of making an already great experience even better as the restaurant is a superb addition to the local scene and definitely a place to visit.
We dined at Kusaki yesterday and I have to say the food was absolutely outstanding. My partner is vegan and so it is always such a delight to be able to enjoy the delights of the whole menu, and Kusaki did not disappoint. The ambience was delightful, innovative interior design and exciting/varied menu - beautiful presentation - one of the best meals I have had in Brighton in a long while.
We also managed to park very easily and it was a refreshing change not to be in the hustle and bustle of central town.
I've been recommending it all morning to friends and cannot wait to return!
Absolutely wonderful. So nice, as a vegetarian to be to eat everything on the menu. Superb food.
