Just past the large Cuban crest muraled across La Cubana’s chandelier-hung entryway, an ornate wrought-iron gate swings open to a candlelit dining room with plush teal banquets, mahogany tabletops, and rustic brass-studded leather Cuban taburete chairs. Lush greenery and sleek herringbone floors juxtapose antique mirrors, exposed brick and concrete walls, and an impressive main bar mosaiced with Spanish tiles to create the feel of an old-world courtyard.
Friends 40th Birthday
My wife and a group of her friends had an early dinner last week at this place. Everyone had a very bad dining experience. The food was mediocre (C-) and the service was very amateurish and terrible, including stating that the steaks came with nothing although they came with a salad and yucca fries so that each person who ordered a steak also ordered two unnecessary additional side dishes. (When the waitress was asked why she had stated that the steaks came with nothing, she just shrugged her shoulders and did not respond.) No one had a good experience and none ever intend to ever return, especially considering the many, many better restaurants to eat at in New York City.
I ordered the whole snapper. The fish was dry and over fried and side salad was swimming in lemon. I ordered a coffee but instead was given an espresso. The desserts were mediocre. Cheesecake was dry and Sunday was nothing special. I spent close to 190 dollars for 2 people. For the quality of the food it's too much. Way over priced.
The noise level of the band was a too loud, it made it very difficult to hold a conversation. The food did not live up to previous reviews & expectation, especially in regard to value for money.
I would enjoy coming back for a drink at the bar & to listen to the band, however I would be hesitant to return for the dining experience.
La Cubana was a terrific experience top to bottom. Delicious drinks (though slightly pricey), decadent food, and friendly service. Even got to say hello to Chef Carl Ruiz. Can't wait to try their brunch coming this Fall!
We were very disappointed with the service and the food. Although the restaurant was not crowded at all the service slow and inattentive. The food was extremely salty and the consistency of the lechón (pork) was one I’ve never had before — It was mushy and slimy. The mojitos and the piña coladas were not good either. Being Cuban, I am always looking for authentic Cuban cuisine but this is definitely not it ! Very disappointing.
Not going back there for sure
The food was amazing. As a bonus, we got to meet Chef Carl "The Cuban" Ruiz, who was absolutely wonderful. We will definitely be going back there during our next visit to NYC.
Welcome feeling upon entering. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food is classic Cuban, delicious. Nice to have entertainment on a nightly basis included.
My family and I have been 5 times already!!
Great new place
Beautiful night out with great food, ambiance, and live music!
