Food is top notch. I have never ever had a bad meal there.
Delish foods but portions a bit small. Wonderful service.
I have never had a less than excellent experience, from the service to the mouth-watering food.
As always, a very pleasant experience.
We celebrated our daughter's 30th birthday with you. She was a happy girl! Wonderful and safe experience.
Best restaurant in southeastern Connecticut
We were greeted by Nino the owner as we came in. He remembered when we had sat the last 2 times we had come from Glastonbury. Awesome table, amazing food, impeccable service and great value!
We had a margarita and martini to begin - both outstanding. Then we started with gluten free bread (the owner remembered our allergy) then we split pasta Bolognese. For the main courses we had the salmon (to die for) and a veal chop that was cooked to perfection! The Barolo was fantastic and we finished with gelatos.
We love La Marea and highly recommend it! We will return at least once a month going forward!
Great food and excellent service!
La Marea has always been one of my very favorite restaurants.
I must say Wednesday night was off. I have only returned after being on the other coast most of the year. But I’m going to check and see if perhaps there’s a new chef. Still in all, I’m going to attribute to Covid ennui.
Great food. Had date night with wifey and had a great time.
Food lacked flavor- too expensive for what it was. It was my birthday & nothing special about the experience.
Fabulous meal from cocktails to entree. Always a warm, inviting ambience with attentive service!
Wonderful as always! Even with the extra COVID precautions in place, the experience was delightful.
We started with hot and dirty martinis which were great! Our two salads were just okay. My sword fish was tasty but overpriced. The linguini side was very small. The peppers on the fish were undercooked. My husbands seafood fettuccini was marginal. The white sauce was average and the portion was small. We finished with carrot cake which was tasty. Overall I think the food was just average and overpriced because of the small portions and uninteresting sauces.
My husband and I absolutely love this restaurant. The food is top notch and the atmosphere is perfect for our date nights. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, it's all delicious.
We had often times passed by La Marea but because it was always so packed, we could never get in!! And of course, it was last minute so no reservations. We recently passed by again & because of Covid & it was early Sunday afternoon we were able to get in. What an excellent experience. The owner is Italian, as my husband, & he was funny, informative about meal selection, & just so friendly. The food was excellent- I had the mouth watering salmon & my husband a seafood pasta. Desserts - not a huge selection but the two we had were heavenly. Needless to say, we have been there since with always the same reception from the owner, his wife & staff! Food quality is superb. We highly recommend La Marea to everyone who enjoys good cooking & service.
Authentic Italian food. All Italian wine list - Awesome!. Nice range of wines at reasonable prices.
Service was perfect. Sat inside but there were lots of outside Wuhan Flu tables for those feeling the need to social distance.
Wish we saw the note that Open Table was inside dining only. Lovely job outside with lights— although appeared bright—but still would have preferred to be outside on such a beautiful weather night. My meal was great. Thank you for my husbands bday candle/writing—nice touch!
Nino, Julianna and staff always strive to bring an exciting, delicious dining experience. From hand tossed wood fired pizza to fresh pasta dishes everyone will find a meal to enjoy. There is a substantial wine list and full bar to add to the dining experience.
Come to La Marea and enjoy!
Hands down the best restaurant (of any kind) within 30 miles of Essex, CT. Their bolognese is stuff of legends and would put it up against any other. Tremendous experience every time!
As always, delicious food, excellent service in a lovely environment. One of our favorites!
My family had dinner at La Marea this week. The food was delicious as usual. I especially enjoyed the pasta special with its in house made sausage. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive, informative and friendly. Never disappointed when dining here. Nino visits his customers and pays attention to detail. He wants everyone to be happy and satisfied with their dining experience!
The menu, although limited, was extensive with something for everyone. We sat inside, but the outdoor tent area is extremely welcoming and inviting. They have it all decorated with flowers, and torch lights. It makes you almost forget for a little while that we are being forced to eat outside during these crazy times.
The waitstaff was all friendly, courteous, and attentive. My husband had the linguini and clams, which he said was one of best he ever had. He also loved the eggplant appetizer which he purposely wanted to go there to get. I had lobster and pasta, which was like eating lobster bisque with pasta. . Delish. The caesar salad was light, not weighted down with lots of dressing and had a nice lemon flavor to it. It was a great meal, in a great place, with great service. How could we go wrong?
The food was very delicious. Under the coronavirus limitations, the restaurant did a great job with compliance and we really enjoyed our meals!
Nino and Juliana never fail to amaze us with his creations. Always top notch
Very friendly staff. Food and service was amazing. We will be back.
Everything was absolutely delicious!!! My only “complaint” was small portions.
We made a reservation on open table. It was for inside the restaurant. They did not give us a choice when we made the reservation . Choices were limited. The food had very little flavor. The waiter was newish and didnt know the menu
Expensive and not worth the money
Food is always fabulous. Nino makes you feel right at home it is so gracious when greeting you. The mud on the menu is the grilled calamari and shrimp and pork chop two of my favorites. Look forward to going back this weekend.
It was very expensive for what it was. The Caesar salad barely had any flavor or dressing on it. And since it took forever to get we didn’t even bother asking for more dressing because we figured we’d never get it. The calamari was chewy and gross. The lobster pasta was amazing and I was happy that they had gluten free pasta. The owner came around to every table but ours which I thought was odd. But we were the youngest people in there by about 20 years. Our money is as green and good as theirs.
Amazing restaurant! The staff are wonderful. The owners come by to greet everyone and make you feel as if you are the most important person in the place! The food is absolutely delicious. Pasta and pizza are especially excellent. I’ve been to Italy numerous times and the food at La Marea is just as good as if you were dining in Florence, Sicily, or Naples.
We ordered 2 pasta dishes and one glass of wine. The bill came to $65 without tax. The portions were on the smallish side, making it a rather less than good value. We were given a bread "basket" that consisted of 4 bite-sized pieces of very good Italian bread. Once again not much value for the price paid. The quality of the food was quite good, and the service acceptable. The dinners were served quickly, almost too quickly after we ordered them. My pasta dish was barely lukewarm, as if it had been made up before, and was sitting there in case a customer decided to order it. The restaurant claimed the dollop of cold cheese on top of the pasta was the cause. I did not accept that because the entire dish was tepid at best. The server replaced it with a steaming hot dish, which i enjoyed. This restaurant has good possibilities. But some thought should be given to more value for the prices they charge. We do intend to try it again before we make a final judgment.
So great to experience La Marea again! Thanks Juliana and staff!
So glad we could enjoy another wonderful meal at La Marea. We met friends from Niantic as this was a great half way point to meet. We ate inside since it was a bit too sunny outside. The atmosphere is a bit more sterile than I remember, clearly due to the protocols that are in place in Phase 2.
We started with the Grilled Calamari and Shrimp appetizer. Enough for two to share and cooked perfectly. Our friends split a Caesar salad with anchovies, which was divided in the kitchen.( Always a nice touch). Our Entrees were grilled scallops over Cannelini beans (excellent, perfectly grilled) , the Swordfish Special of the day, a very large portion that our friend could not finish and brought home, and Grilled Salmon with clams which was absolutely fresh and tasty. My husband had Fruita de Mare with homemade pasta. The red sauce was wonderful, light and flavorful.
For dessert we had to try to the Cannoli. Homemade, fresh and crunchy. With a bottle of red wine, dinner just doesn't get any better.
One of my favorite restaurants on the shoreline! The food is outstanding, and so are the cocktails and wine list!
The service is always great and so is the food. One of our favorite spots as La Marea never disappoints!
We chose La Marea to celebrate my wife’s birthday during a mid week getaway to old Saybrook, CT. This was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Certainly the best Italian food in CT! The owners were amazing and made us feel very welcomed. The service was off the charts. If you are looking for an amazing restaurant experience, look no further, La Marea will not disappoint. We will be back as soon as we can get back up there from where we live in southern CT.
Took advantage of their Tuesday night pizza/beer or wine special for $20 and enjoyed every minute of it! We love the vibe of the bar area and the beautiful decor. Friendly service every time we dine. There was a nice quiet energy and almost every seat in the entire bar area was full. Great music playing in the background , happy hum of conversation, and perfect lighting made for a very nice little outing for my husband and 13 year old - who LOVES the bolognese. We always leave La Marea content and looking forward to the next time.
La Marea is such a happy place with a great vibe. The food is excellent and consistent. Always my first choice.
Good food and service. Nice family owned restaurant. One of our favorites!!
