Amazing friendly staff. Hidden little gem
Seafood risotto was fantastic!
Thanks Vincent. Much appreciated. Hope see you again soon.
Just mediocre-not an upscale place just ok
Service so-so a little unprofessional
Food good but nothing special
I will not go back
Thanks for the frank review. Sorry that we did not meet your expectations but we are working on our menu and hospitality all the time. Fortunately we have a lot of good reviews but we always strive to do better.
Great food! And waiter was great! Try the pistachio cheesecake, amazing!
Thanks Pudegirl. Glad you could come by. We like that ... "neighborhood gem". Hope to see you again soon.
Not really an Italian restaurant. The food tasted blunt and needed serious additions of salt, pepper and herbs. The server was trying his best but seem to be overworked at some points. The pasta was good but not outstanding. Overall, nothing to write home about.
Great food, great service, great everything
The staff was really warm and welcoming when we arrived. We were quickly seated, and the service was really attentive and timely, during our stay. I had the carbonara, and it was delicious. The only downside was that they ran out of the short ribs, otherwise the visit was great!
Food and service were great. Love the live piano music.
The owner was very hospitable and the food was amazing!
Thank you for joining us at La Traviata and for the positive feed-back. Cheers!
Mother’s Day brunch was a huge success. Food was delicious and well priced, service was amazing. The owner’s warm personality made our experience extra special. We will be back for Father’s Day.
One of our favorite restaurants: Great food, great atmosphere, great service and great live jazz.
Thank you for coming by La Traviata and joining us on Jazz night. Hope to see you again soon!
First Class Italian
We were welcomed with a smile followed with great service, excellent food and a nice selection of wines. A comfortable and charming ambience.
Will definitely return
My dinner was the Chilean SeaBass. The BEST I have ever had. The service, people and owner were welcoming and wonderful. Made our 24th Wedding Anniversary wonderful. Thank you again.
Mr. & Mrs. William A. Ewing (Tony)
Live Music was terrific but far too loud. I could do without the Tambourine
We had a theater afterwards and the waiter accommodated us so we were able to be on time for the show. Great service. The foods were excellent.
Delicious fresh ahi salad for lunch. Server was amazing and helpful! Nice to go back after 20 years!!
The owner tries hard to create a fun and inviting experience. I just wish everyone else on staff did the same. We showed up to our reservation early and as I was telling the host, we were interested in hanging out at the bar for happy hour, he stopped me short and showed us to our table. No happy hour for us I guess. After we were sat, the server came by tried to answer some questions about the drink menu, and it seemed like he was new. No biggie, we found something we liked. Bread was offered, but when it came there was no butter or saucer of oil and vinegar. There were bottles of oil and vinegar on the table, so we just used the bread plates. That might just be how they do it there, not sure. When it came time to order, we were surprised that we were not offered any speciala. We were even more surprised when the table next to us was let in on that little secret. Some of which sounded pretty good. I we just weren't cool enough. I mean, the food was good, the drinks were good the atmosphere was good, but it just didn't seem special, and if you're willing to spend a worker's day salary on a night out, you kinda want it to be special. We were out for our anniversary, even had it on our reservation, but it just felt like we went to Olive Garden, if Olive Garden had a good food.. Speaking of of food, I guess I should talk a little bit about it. We had the Chilean Seabass and the Risotto Mare. The Seabass was good but it seemed to rely too heavily on the teriyaki sauce for flavor. The saphron cream sauce on the Risotto was good but was a bit too light on the saphron. Over all our experience good, but not great. We went for a special occasion but it didn't seem too special.
Thank you Mario
Thank you for dining with us!
This place made you feel like home and the service was awesome.
Hello Eric. Many thanks for the positive review. Hope to see you again in future.
The perfect late Valentine’s Day dinner spot. Food and ambiance were great. Service was a bit slow.
Thank You for the positive review. Valentines Day was a little challenging as La Trav is very popular on that day. Appreciate your patience with us. Cheers.
Upon entering, we were greeted by the owner Mario himself, who typified the gracious Old World charm and manners. One can't fake that. One either possesses it or not. Over our appetizer course with our wine, Mario came and sat with us for about 10 minutes and chatted about a variety of subjects. He was equally engaging and courteous to all his guests. He circulated among the tables throughout the evening and gauged each's response and requests.
The service was on cue, on target and expertly delivered throughout our meal by our serving team.
Highly recommend the expertly cooked Chilean Sea Bass-- this is the real Chilean Sea Bass and not Tilapia disguised as CSB. Because of the thickness of the portion, it took a bit more time but was well worth the wait.
The wine list was very respectable and paired well with the menu selections.
Highly recommend this restaurant for everyday dining, special occasions or pre-theater. One won't be disappointed.
We went on a wet and windy weeknight and found the place surprisingly lively and reasonably filled, which itself speaks volumes.
Hello and thanks for your detailed and thoughtful review. Mario revels in the spirit of old world hospitality. We are most appreciative that you noted that in your comments. We live for that! And yes, as you also noted that is REAL Chilean Sea Bass. No shortcuts here! Cheers to the next wet and windy night... or the next bright and sunny spring evening when we hope to see you again.
This was my first visit, but I have to say that I was very impressed. The ambiance was great, service could be better, the location made it a gem, the menu was a little simple, but I liked it. The wine list was pretty good as well. I'm from Chicago where we have Italian gems all over the city so I'm tough to impress, but I definitely recommend checking La Traviata out. Oh and the bartender that night was FANTASTIC!
The owner met us at the door, The room was beautiful, romantic and quiet (friday night at 7pm). We started with the mushroom strudel appetizer with raspberry sauce. It was magnificient! For dinner my wife had the lasagna, which she said was the best she had ever eaten, and I laughed because I had the salmon with champagne basil sauce, which was truely the best salmon I have ever eaten! We cannot say enough about this romantic treasure in downtown long beach.
Our party was the only one in the dining room (it was a holiday period) so the service was excellent; quick, smiling, very pleasant. This is a charming little neighborhood gem which is a plus and a nice alternative to the usual Pine Street scene.
The food was amazing. The service was spot on without being bothersome. A great meal for our first night in Long Beach.
La Traviata represent's La Dolce Vita during the Spring/Summer months with a dining special: $39.00 for a 3-course dinner. It offers a gratifying Della Casa Salad ( mixed greens, feta cheese, carrots & cranberries combined with an ambrosial raspberry balsamic vinaigrette); a choice of lasagna - Chicken Violetta ( a sumptuous breast stuffed with feta, sun-dried tomatoes, and a porcini sauce); or Salmon with champagne basil sauce. And dessert.
Executive Chef José Trinidad has composed an applaudable menù di piatti with several stand-outs. Mario, the Proprietor is such a likable guy & gracious Host, and Tina, at-the-bar, is just the cameo needed on this La Traviata stage. Fa bene.
The Lasagna is really quite delicious. The dish is very different than an others I have experienced.
From the valet curbside opening to valet curbside farewell it was a night that will be hardpressed to duplicate. A greeting from the owner that was geniune, enthusiastic, and welcoming. Cheryl Smith provided songs that inspired dancing all night for us. Service was provided around us, our quiet intimate moments, our dancing, and our lounge visit. We chose the difficult dish, Chicken Breast Violetta. As a connoisseur of fine dining I was pleasantly surprised to have a perfectly cooked breast with appropiate stuffing and a sauce that was sublimly enchancing. It was an enamored experience, the most inexpensive I have ever experienced. We can and will make biweekly reservation due to the most underpriced for the value Fine Dining Experience.
It was really nice to be greeted by the owner of the restaurant. It made us feel special. The singer was great and the food was as well. We enjoyed the gorgeous paintings and loved finding an Italian restaurant that doesn't rely on pasta for every dish. They had very limited pasta, and instead showcased their talents.
And you really have to try their house made tiramasu for dessert. The best I have ever had.
Menu seemed dated, as did our reception where only the man in the party was welcomed. Cream sauces were not described as such on the menu -- too bad that we are trying to cut back on rich sauces. We hadn't realized that we would share our dinner with live operatic music but it sounded good and wasn't too intrusive.
We went there for a birthday celebration and were not disappointed.
The restaurant exudes style in its decor and has impeccable service. We loved our food as well as the dessert we were offered for the birthday girl.
Mario we wish you all the success you so much deserve.
Check out the room for private parties, it is STYLE.
Food, serve and ambience was excellent. It was a set menu for Mothers Day Brunch, thus the restaurant was not crowded. The service was wonderful, and the variety of food provided in the set menu was great and all extremely tasty: from the salad, the main entree, to the dessert platter.
Thank you for the wonderful experience. We will definiitely be back!
Food and service were amazing. It was great to be able to have Mario come around to our Table asking us how everything was and to speak a little Italian with him. Highly suggest anyone coming to Long Beach should try this place. Thanks again!
Created in what was once the lobby area of a local hotel, the dining areas are somewhat small. The food was good but not extraordinary. The service was spotty. The food took some time to reach the table. The server forgot to bring a salad order for one of the guests in our party and brought the wrong cocktail for that same guest. They did provide one free desert for the inconvenience. I would probably give it another try, in the future.
The restaurant has good menu selection not necessarily the items noted on website. Intimate dining area. Service was excellent. Saturday evening entertainment.
We went here for my birthday and it was perfect! The wine list was extensive and they had a good selection of beer. The atmosphere was beautiful with dim lighting and variation of art in the wall. The service was great! Mario who was at the front was so nice and welcoming! He made it feel like we were joining his family for a nice dinner, a perfect host! The food was even better, everything cooked to perfection. But careful not to get filled up on the hot soft bread before! I would come here again as it was a wonderful experience!
The ambience was delightful and quite a surprise. Unfortunately, conversation was disturbed because of the entertainment and singer who sang an aria from La Traviata. At times she really was very loud. Be aware if you are sensitive to the noise levels. My initial impression was that I would return, but I am not so sure now.
Was in town for business and found out about La Traviata via Open Table. Had the chilean sea bass was was a very good sized filet cooked to perfection. It was accompanied by a good mix of fresh vegetables and fresh bread. The drink/wine menu is also very good. Topping it off, they had an excellent spanish guitar musician playing the night I was there.
