Have always chosen this place to eat for a few years now.
Always good food and pleasant surroundings and staff
Lovely food, not rushed in a relaxed atmosphere with an excellent pianist.
We will be back very soo
Second time here an enjoyed it as much as the first time, did do the 3 course set meal as its such good value for money an delicious, next visit we will try something off the main menu.
As before service was fast and efficient, no complaints at all.
Saw this restaurant and just liked the look of it, as it was my 60th Birthday I thought yes Italian it is, booked it the same day and not did not regret it.
Great atmosphere from the start, attentive staff, although midweek was quite but with only two staff on it ran like clockwork.
Fantastic food and wine, good size portions and nothing rushed. For the quality of the food I thought that the price was reasonable. The next time I’m on York it will be on the top of my list to return too.
Love this restaurant we live in Norfolk but if we are every in York we always come here, the food is always amazing and the staff are charming even better when the pianist is in can't wait for the next visit.
Lovely food, lovely staff & great atmosphere would very much recommend! We took our kids too and they loved it! Very good portion sizes & really yummy food!
The service was quick, but two meals had been missed for my granddaughters who ended up sharing the meals of others as they are too young to understand they had to wait.
We also couldnt understand why it was just after six but “too late for set evening menu.”
That said the food was very nice, the seating comfortable and having the piano player was a real added bonus.
It was my first visit as my best friend recommended😊. The service was excellent and food was served promptly. Loved the pate😊
The food was good, the service staff (one in particular) were off handed and disinterested.
Beautiful location with a relaxed atmosphere and fantastic food, only made better by the live Pianist
Great service ,wonderful food, excellent service .
Food was piping hot and very tasty. Will definitely recommend and will definitely visit again when in York
Fantastic evening celebrating my husbands birthday with family & Friends definitely recommend to other friends mind this was recommended by my sister in law
I often arrange lunch time meetings at La Vecchia Scuola. I. and my American guests were hreeted warmly, and shown to our table on the dot of our booking time. Very friendly and effieicnt waiter, delicious bruschetta to start, and three excellent mains. we were also quietly left to chat for a long time withbour coffee, which made all the difference. Thank you.
We had a lovely anniversary dinner. The food was great and the staff were nice.
Every time we travel to York, we Always book to eat here. It's where we had our 1st date, and 10years later we still enjoy the delights. Food never lets us down.
Once again a great place to eat. Excellent service, food, staff and a great location
We know this place well & if anything the food is getting better. The staff are friendly & attentive. On Saturdays a pianist takes requests & plays anything from pop to Rachmaninoff off the top of his head without "dots"
On the downside we were seated at table 2, adjacent to the kitchen & every member of staff either serving or clearing tables had to pass our table! Avoid this table!
Really nice restaurant, food was very good , we ate off the set menu which had a good choice & very reasonabley priced .
First visit to this classy Italian restaurant. Set in a beautiful city centre building, there was an extensive menu and extensive wine list. Well priced set menu that didn’t disappoint. The Lamb main course was excellent but could have been a little hotter.
Fabulous food, good value set menu.
Very quiet, not many diners so lacking atmosphere, and could have been a little warmer.
We decided to try La Vecchia Scuola for a birthday lunch during a day trip to York. We ate from the lunch menu where 2 courses were just under £13. The food was beautiful, we were lucky to sit in the conservatory which had great views of the garden. The staff were very attentive & friendly. We will definitely return.
Lovely setting and friendly staff. Excellent value for money in the heart of York. Never disappoints- the evening set menu is great - lots of choice.
An excellent evening with friends from New Zealand. They really enjoyed it too.
Excellent restaurant, beautiful view of gardens in the conservatory. Service is attentive without being annoying. The food was of superb quality and presentation and was absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend. We will return.
The restaurant is in an excellent location and yet allows you to feel as though you have broken free from the hustle and bustle of the city. Food and service were very good. If there were to be one suggestion it is that the toilets be ‘refreshed’ as they look a little tired and do not meet the grandeur and decor of the rest of the facilities.
Beautiful building and surroundings is. The man at the reception desk had no personality. He couldn't be bothered. The waiting staff were excellent
The risotto was delicious. The lasagne was poor- mushy. Coffee was bitter
We had to withstand the Frank Sinatra act doing his sound checks and that was e extremely loud.
Not that keen to come again
Seated promptly on arrival, met by courteous staff. Good choice on lunchtime set menu with reasonably priced food. Standard of food was, as always, excellent with the thinnest of bases on the pizza .... much better than a thick stodgy base as in some places. Service and food very good though beer and soft drinks fairly pricy. That was more than compensated by everything else.
The food and setting were beautiful however it was all ruined by the terrible service. When we were served our waiter was rude and unhelpful and most of the time we struggled to get anyone's attention.
Simply wonderful! Reserved a special table for two to celebrate my wife's 65th birthday. From the moment you enter, there is an expectation of quality to come. Were'nt disappointed! The service is the right side of attentive and the food was a treat for the taste buds. All of this, at very reasonable prices, given the all round experience. We will be making a point of returning very soon. Graham Atkins.
Food was top notch in every way. Service was OK but a little hit and miss
The service was extremely slow. The conservatory is very crowded where tables too close together. Half way through the evening there was a gentleman playing the piano but it was too loud and you could not here yourself speak let alone trying to speak to other people. It took a long time to order a drink and the meal both times we had to actually ask someone to take our order. Food ok nothing special for the price being charged. Would not recommend.
Having visited this restaurant before, we knew what to expect, lovely food and drink, after our 2nd visit we shall return again
Dated décor and staff with little enthusiasm for their roles or themselves, not a complete disaster of a restaurant but I would expect more service in York. The food was lovely if a little basic, nothing you wouldn't find in a number of other chain restaurants.
As always, the food was excellent and excellent value too. The Lunch menu allows such a choice not only of food but of quantity so is ideal for the lighter eater. Service is first class and I love to eat in the conservatory which overlooks an adjacent garden area.
Amazing meals, excellent quality, very tasty. Good choice on the menu. Service very good and nice atmosphere.
Excellent food. We had the lunch menu with 2 courses for £12.95, excellent value. The service was quick, staff were friendly and helpful. This is possibly the best Italian food I have had.
The conservatory overlooks York Minster which is lovely.
Will definitely return and highly recommend
Booked for a small group on a Saturday evening. The food and service were excellent. We were seated at a table in the conservatory with views out over the formal garden. To top it off there was a great pianist taking requests, pop, rock, folk, soul - you name it, and he could play it. Highly recommended.
One of my favourite restaurants in York, however very disappointing this time. We had booked and were shown to our table no problem. Perused the menus then waited and waited, asked if we could order, drinks order taken, then waited again, everyone who came in after us were served. Had to go to reception again to ask if we could order. Meal came, ok, definitely not the usual standard, ribeye? Frozen chips. Asked for the dessert menu, and again waited and waited- no one came to us at all so once again had to go to reception to ask for the bill. I don’t think we will visit again which is a shame as over the past 5 years we have had many family celebrations there.
I was disappointed by my latest visit. Last year the food was much better.
