Best carbonara I’ve ever had. Would 1000% recommend

Lovely restaurant and lovely staff.
Waitress couldn't do enough for us and was fantastic with my granddaughter.
Food was absolutely lovely and great value.

Delicious food friendly service

Yet another good experience here. Our second time in as many months. Always a warm greeting and taken straight to our table in the conservatory, best atmosphere in there. Tables are practical but they would do better with linen table cloths and napkins. For what they cost it would step this restaurant up to the level it purports to be at. So the food was to the usual high standards and plenty of it too. Service was superb once again. We do like coming here and we will return again but it would be so much more attractive if it stepped up its level in the way I suggested earlier. The location and what it used to be is something the owners have clearly played on to apparent success, we just think it needs to fine tune itself now and become the restaurant it deserves to be.

The building is beautiful so I had really high hopes for the food, service was quick, cocktails was nice but the food was bland, I had the mixed grill and left most of it and my partner ordered the fillet steak which he also left most of it, prices would be okay if the food was cooked and seasoned well, I was happy with my drinks, and the ambiance.. the food just really let me down, I wouldn’t return.

I've been a couple of times and had pizza each time. The pizzas are really nice. Also I had a slice of cheesecake for dessert too last time and it was really tasty. The restaurant is just amazing. Also it is a cool and stylish place.

Nice food. Service average and unfortunately surrounded by drunken loud couples which ruined the ambience and staff did nothing about.

A Margarita Pizza was a very thin base covered in what resembled red & white gravy, very sloppy, made the thin base wet, not very good, only half eaten..!!
A Lasagne without internal layers of pasta, but full of a sloppy mix of maybe what should be in there, but without the pasta layers was like a bowl of slop with a crust, not good and not eaten..!!
A seafood linguini was excellent, great taste and just as it should be..!!
Ice creams and a delightful chocolate fudge cake were great..!!
Brought to an end with very fine coffee..!!
£120 for 3 persons..!! NO FOOD DISCOUNT FOR UNEATEN AND REPORTED POOR FOOD..??
As it was a Birthday, a small glass with ice cream and a candle was produced..!!

We’ve booked every Christmas for the last 5 year and never been disappointed .
Great service lovely atmosphere.Had a great meal really nice to get out for a lovely meal.

Food good,service good. Toilets totally unacceptable, urinals and toilet were not working. I was there from 5 until 6.30 and last time they were checked was midday.
Also Xmas pud disappointed. Was ready made microwave pud and tasted cheap.

Had the Christmas menu deal, a lot to choose from including some lovely calamari and prawn starters. Calzone and linguine main courses very nice. Generous portions, no room for pud!

My husband and I love to visit the school house when in York. It’s such a beautiful place especially seated in the conservatory area

We had a late lunch there and I would recommend La Vecchia Scuola the anyone that appreciates high quality Italian cuisine, exceptional service and a great atmosphere.

Having booked our table well in advance we were very unhappy to be shown to a single small table in he middle of all other diners and obviously we refused it and was offered a table in the adjoining room which was ok but no atmosphere.
We noticed several other couples that came in also refused this table. A point I would like to make the social distancing is not adequate for example the table of 6 people sat at the back of us actually were touching our chairs so suggest this is addressed. I appreciate times are difficult and you want as many diners as possible but surely not at risk to other diners. I will speak to local health and safety and see if this can be looked at.
On the good side we really enjoyed the food.

We had a wonderful meal at La Vecchia Scuola. The food was absolutely delicious and was very good value - we had the Christmas menu, three courses for £19.95. The choice of food on this menu was very wide and there were many meals that we would happily have chosen. We sat in the conservatory which was a lovely place to sit, quiet and with delicate lighting. The service was excellent and friendly. We both said that this was one of the best meals that we had eaten out in a very long time and we will be back as soon as we possibly can. This was the second time that we have eaten here and we could not fault it in any way. We would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone and anyone.

A very Good Dining experience good value for money service & Ambiance excellent in a wonderful building. My only issue was there was a problem with the men’s toilets hopefully that issue will be now rectified.

Good service and staff but food very bland. We had two pizzas between us and they were both poor. They were very dry, and the toppings didn’t add anything. For between £12-£15 for the pizzas, we felt like it certainly wasn’t worth it.
