The Good Food Guide (2015) says: "Martin Peacock [...] still doing what he does best: familiar combinations of quality ingredients, conscientiously sourced and cooked with care. A test meal found perfect fresh-from-the-oven bread; a precise, balanced starter of venison carpaccio [...] then the main course of Romney Marsh Lamb [...] that was a triumph of flavour and accuracy of cooking. [...) and the English cheese selection is superb."
Vegetarian: we will always offer at least one starter and one main vegetarian choice.
Staff was great. Food in oieces was good, but as a meal failed a bit . It was heavy with no brightness to give relief and WAY too greasy. Finally, the knife would not cut all the food on the plate.
Excellent meal with fantastic service. Would recommend for any special occasions
Everything was great, we were first in, and received a warm friendly welcome. Lovely restaurant with excellent food and service, the desserts were outstanding.
Utterly stunning meal. Possibly the best ever. Lovely restaurant with attentive friendly staff who could not do enough. Decent value for money too. I cannot recommend enough.
The welcome was friendly helpful and a lovely start to our evening. The little amuse bouche was delicious as was the focaccia bread and oil. Most of my meal was very good although I wonder if the chefs ambitious menu wasn’t quite matched by the kitchen staffs skill. My crispy egg was a little rubbery and my main was a little cold and part of it somewhat dry, my husbands choices were much more successful and I overheard many diners complementing the team in the food. So yes I’d definitely try again and maybe go for the set menu next time. And of course I may be being overtly critical so do try it for yourself
My partners meal was luke warm at best. And whilst I appreciate that we were dining in a lovely restaurant with a superb ambience the food was a major disappointment. We would have needed a pair of scissors to eat the spinach. My advice to other diners is if you are hungry avoid the Landgate Bistro. Without doubt the worst value for money meal we have ever had
The food and service was excellent,
The restaurant is welcoming with a warm atmosphere.
A definite place for a special dinner. It is expensive, however, worth every penny. The food was exquisite - very hard to pick our favourite part as all elements were amazing!
Lovely to have this in Rye... and clearly have some very talented chefs...
Food was great but very very small portions -
Don’t go if you are very hungry
Service was at outstanding level.
The one observation I've got is about some ingredients like cumin and oils being overpowering in my dishes.
Excellent food and service. Highly recommended. Scallops starter is superb.
Read the reviews online and we were not disppointed when we visited. The staff are very attentive and the quality of food is outstanding. It is worth making a detour to visit Landgate Bistro and we certainly will when we are in that part of the country.
Fabulous food. Combination of flavours perfect! Traveled to Rye just to have lunch here again, and will do next time I'm in the UK
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. As always.
Another very enjoyable visit to the Landgate, food and wine were excellent although the Dover sole was a little undercooked for my personal taste.
Fantastic food, we had the set menu and it was very reasonable for how much you got, yet the food was of a Michelin style 5 star standard, the ladies that served us were both lovely and friendly, the restaurant music excellent, my other half really enjoyed the songs played but it wasn't too loud and overall had a lovely romantic atmosphere, would have happily spent more on the normal menu if they didn't have the cheaper set menu on offer and will definitely dine there again when next in Rye!
The food was absolutely excellent, we couldn't fault it.
We've been at the Landgate Bistro a few times now over the years and they have never disappointed. The food is excellent as is the service.
Thank You very much for another nice evening in Rye.
We have eaten at your restaurant several times and make sure we book to visit you when we come to Rye.
Lovely food and such good quality. Complements to the chef and all the staff.
Really well prepared lunch, beautifully presented and promptly served.
A perfect custard tart!
Fourth visit and we were not disappointed. Lovely food and great service from charming young people. It was a busy day for them but they gave the impression they thoroughly enjoyed their work.
Just love eating here the food and presentation is always top quality, my wife sometimes feels the menu is too limited but I said that I would select her courses and picked ones she probably wouldn’t have chosen herself, she said it was the best meal she has eaten at the Landgate, so it goes to show you shouldn’t stay in your comfort zone when you have the superb local ingredients and sublime cooking on offer here.
Excellent meal and good service
Would highly recommend
Good value for standard of food
Lovely venue and fabulous food and service thank you
Overall was disappointing. We had read great reviews. Food was fine but nothing special and didn’t warrant the prices. I had the sole. Drowned in butter and the marsh lamb was quite fatty. They have a good wine list and there was an excellent truffle to finish the meal.
Simple easy food well cooked
Lovely people , warm welcome and pleasant ambience we always return here when in Rye
Food was very good but the service was slow and not very attentive. One starter took a lot longer to arrive so other party members felt obliged to wait so their food got cold. After deciding against a dessert preferring just coffee, we waited but we weren’t offered any, in the end we gave up waiting and requested the bill, and we had to go and find a waiter for this. Shame as we’ve always had good experiences there before.
Excellent food and lovely surroundings. It was an all round great experience sourcing local food.
Amazing food! Great presentation and reasonably priced. The home made focaccia was stunning
Booked the restaurant for birthday treat. It is quite a small place but this adds to the intimate ambiance. Staff are smartly dressed, courteous and friendly. The menu is quite limited but the food was excellent in both presentation and taste. Comparable with London restaurant prices. Would recommend for a different experience just don’t expect steak.
There was confusion abut what accompaniments came with a particular dish. When it was established that some sides were missing from one plate, the plate was returned to the kitchen. At the same time, we asked for the other person's plate to be returned to be kept warm.
When both plates were returned the food was tepid at best. This detracted considerably from our enjoyment of the meal.
We went on a friend's recommendation, and the whole experience surpassed expectations. the food was all excellent, real attention to detail. The wine was excellent but reasonably priced with a refreshing amount of choice.
Every one of our party was impressed by their whole meal.
Attentive and helpful staff.
Had there exceptionally cooked scallops to start and cod for main. Fresh, simple and local. Only I wish I hadn't been too full to try the pudding. Decor is simple with backlit fruits /preserves in jars about the place. If you're in rye you gotta go!
Came to this restaurant for the first time, lovely waitress who really looked after us,great food, never had Guinea fowl before and it was a dish to remember,so tasty. We will be returning.
My husband and I had a lovely meal here, the staff were attentive and the food was wonderful. It has a lovely atmosphere and we shall definitely be booking again and recommending it to family and friends
Not been back to the Landgate for a while as we have moved away. Back in Rye for a few days and a visit back to The Landgate was a must. We weren’t disappointed. All was as good as we remembered- really excellent - thank you
Wonderful seafood, excellent service. Only tiny suggestion I would make is to turn down the temperature. We found the restaurant very warm. Also the tables are a bit too tight. We felt a bit too close to the other diners meaning conversations were not very private. Otherwise everything was beautiful. Will recommend and hope to visit again soon.
An excellent meal, the marsh lamb was wonderful and the chocolate mousse just melted!
Fabulous and stunning food. Great service by young team. Wine lovely. The soup was the best I had ever had. White onion and cider. Can’t fault it. 2nd time there and both times it was faultless. The breads at the beguine again lovel. Well done Landgate. Don’t change a thing!
Great place, great food
