The Good Food Guide (2015) says: "Martin Peacock [...] still doing what he does best: familiar combinations of quality ingredients, conscientiously sourced and cooked with care. A test meal found perfect fresh-from-the-oven bread; a precise, balanced starter of venison carpaccio [...] then the main course of Romney Marsh Lamb [...] that was a triumph of flavour and accuracy of cooking. [...) and the English cheese selection is superb."
Vegetarian: we will always offer at least one starter and one main vegetarian choice.
Wonderful seafood, excellent service. Only tiny suggestion I would make is to turn down the temperature. We found the restaurant very warm. Also the tables are a bit too tight. We felt a bit too close to the other diners meaning conversations were not very private. Otherwise everything was beautiful. Will recommend and hope to visit again soon.
An excellent meal, the marsh lamb was wonderful and the chocolate mousse just melted!
Fabulous and stunning food. Great service by young team. Wine lovely. The soup was the best I had ever had. White onion and cider. Can’t fault it. 2nd time there and both times it was faultless. The breads at the beguine again lovel. Well done Landgate. Don’t change a thing!
Great place, great food
Tremendous. Delicious food, lovely wine and great service. First class all round.
We were unfortunate to be sitting near a very loudly spoken woman who misguidedly felt everyone in the restaurant would be interested in what she had to say.
The service was good and our waitress could answer questions in respect of the menu.
The starter (scallops) was excellent but the cod dish was very disappointing. The beans were a mistake and the fish had a strong smell to the extent we considered sending it back.
The food was fantastic and service excellent too. We went there during Scallop Festival Week and fully the seafood menu.
Another wonderful visit to The Landgate, service was again superb and the food never fails to impress us, wonderful little restaurant.
Met with an Italian friend down from London who came to visit Rye for the first time. Scallop week resulted in a number of dishes relating to scallops on the menu. We tried the scallop and cep starter which was outstanding. My friend had lamb for mains and I had cod. Chocolate mousse followed and cheese. All excellent - great service and my Italian friend commented on the focaccia - so light and delicious
Lovely Scallop Fest tasting menu with interesting drink pairings - thank you!
First visit to landgate and will definitely return . The Roquefort tart for starters was lovely and as it was scallop week the starter of a trio of scallops was excellent , we both had the marsh rye lamb done three ways again a lovely meal. The 'lost' brioche was lovely for dessert and the cheese and biscuits were nice with a large selection of cheese to choose from . The waitresses were helpful and very polite x
Excellent food, we were luckily there in Rye Scallops Week, so had some specials. Romney Marsh Lamb (four ways?) was delicious. The staff were lovely. They did not have enough choice of non-alcoholic (and not sweet) drinks, but the staff said they would look at that. Recommended.
Super little restaurant with a 10 mile rule for sourcing it’s food and a cheeky little sherry menu for aperitif. A bistro worthy of the town itself.
Fantastic restaurant. Cheerful friendly staff, wonderful food, cannot recommend it enough.
Brilliant little restaurant, with fab local produce and amazing menu.
The staff are super sweet.
We had a wonderful time.
I highly recommend it!
We had a fabulous meal at the Landgate bistro. Having read the previous reviews we were looking forward to the meal & it certainly didn't disappoint.
The Landgate is a real local treasure in Rye: beautifully cooked and tasty dishes in a cosy, informal and charming old building. Highly recommended: scallops & squid as starters, duck for main dish, and a nice variety of desserts. Good value for the excellence of the cuisine.
Excellent service beautiful food would recommend highly
Last ate here 3 years ago, and if anything it has improved. Food is exceptional and extremely good value for money. Liked the little extras between courses. Service is very good and unobtrusive and the ambience pleasant and relaxing.
My wife and i have eaten her several times, and we now wonder why we do not visit more frequently.
We were there on Valentines night and the food was outstanding.
We both love refined dining and this was at its best.
We have eaten at Le Gavroche which is one of our favourite restaurants which is a 2 Star Michelin rated, and i feel that The Langate Bistro is at this level for its food.
If you want the wow factor in presentation and flavours, please i recommend you go.
Exceptional service, food and ambience - deservedly one of the best restaurants in Rye!
A lovely restaurant for a special occasion. Very efficient staff and very pleasant. We would recommend our holiday guests to come here.
I loved my experience. Food was great and staff very attentive. I would gladly return :)
The food was exceptionally well cooked and the staff were friendly and helpful. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and great value too, particularly the reasonably priced wine list.
Delicious food and lovely waiting staff! We had a lovely meal at Landgate Bistro, I would especially recommend the scallops!
Our fist time here but will not be our last, service was faultless along with the food. If there is one negative the website is not kept up to date, although it is only a sample menu so don’t set your heart on something as may not be available on the night.
Overall 5 star.
Brilliant, wholesome food in a no fuss setting. Couldn’t fault the food or staff and would very happily return. A fantastic night experience.
Food was lovely, 4 stars only just because of the limited dessert menu and the limited English wine would like to have seen more and to be available by the glass also but what we ate was incredible! The pork was so delicious! Highly recommend!
Wonderful food, I had the vegetarian option and partner had the duck which were both cooked to perfection and with enough imagination to make them interesting without being over-the-top. The bread was the best foccaccia I have ever tasted, local cheeses were excellent and the amuse-bouche was a nice touch. I would definitely return.
Excellent service, fantastic food. Compliments to the chefs. First visit and will definitely return.
Great lamb dish. Excellent selection of local cheeses.
Food was amazing - especially the lamb. Good friendly service.
We had a wonderful lunch here. Food was amazing, service exemplary. Would go back in an instant. Excellent value, every mouthful was perfect. Cannot recommend too highly
Our third visit and it didn't disappoint. Delicious food. Limited menu choice (which is good). Excellent service - not over the top. Wish we lived nearer.
Truly outstanding in every way, would move to RYE to regularly eat st this restaurant. The food was lovingly sourced and cooked, scallops the biggest I’ve ever eaten with pork belly an inspired marriage. The trio of welsh lamb was beautifully cooked and presented. The homemade bread was to die for and offered to purchase a complete loaf to take home, sadly I never received the answer......I could leave my address lol.......well done to all,a truly remarkable dining experience and we have luckily eaten all over the world, but this has a truly special, place and wouldn’t consider not dining here on our next visit to Rye sadly we live 100 miles away
We were a party of 6 celebrating a birthday. The food and service was excellent and the atmosphere of the restaurant was very relaxed.
Excellent food and service, have been using Landgate for many years and are always happy with the food.
Loved it had never been before and it was a really delightful surprise to find . The food was as an outstanding quality in my opinion you seem to follow the good standard of having a smallish menu but all of the highest standard which is perfect. There is only one thing I would like to have seen which would have topped it for me and that's to have cloth napkins.. many thanks I will visit again and will recommend you... in fact have done so already.
Excellent food and reasonably priced. Unpretentious but also refined.
Wonderful restaurant; pigeon delicious! Would definitely recommend
