The Good Food Guide (2015) says: "Martin Peacock [...] still doing what he does best: familiar combinations of quality ingredients, conscientiously sourced and cooked with care. A test meal found perfect fresh-from-the-oven bread; a precise, balanced starter of venison carpaccio [...] then the main course of Romney Marsh Lamb [...] that was a triumph of flavour and accuracy of cooking. [...) and the English cheese selection is superb."

Obviously Covid 19 means certain restrictions are put in place but disappointed to be sat at a table in what is clearly normally the reception/entrance area. Very quiet with no atmosphere at all being sat out of the usual restaurant area. That said the food was excellent and service by the two young girls front of house very good
Delicious food, great friendly service and covid friendly
We had a superb lunch. Delicious lunch and lovely cold wine
Ambience was a little lacklustre but I would think that was down to social distancing. Would definitely go back once life is back to normal
Apart from the canned music, the food and experience was very enjoyable
Excellent service, wonderful food!
Fabulous scallop and rabbit starters. Followed by delicious lamb. Would definitely recommend.
We had a lovely meal last Sunday afternoon, , I had scallops with belly pork to start and my wife had the lobster rissotto, they were both well cooked and presented. For my main I had Lamb cooked three ways and my wife had lemon sole the food was well cooked and tasty.
Beautifully presented food absolutely delicious best I’ve had in rye
Best cooking in Rye. Simple, short menu. Wine list has decent wine at at the affordable end of the spectrum.
Just wow! From the minute we walked in when we were greeted by the friendly waiter we knew we’d made a good choice.
I had the scallop, pork belly and cauliflower panna cotta which was one of the most delicious starters I have ever eaten. It was perfectly cooked and just so tasty! My friend had the Lobster Risoni which had a wonderful depth of flavour.
We then went for the marsh lamb which was cooked 3 ways plus a sweetbread which was perfectly accompanied by dauphinois potatoes and my friend had the cod which she loved.
Overall we had a wonderful evening and would recommend it wholeheartedly.
We have visited the Landgate several times & have never been disappointed. It always keeps up to a high standard of food & service.
Excellent meal as always. Lobster risoni and Marsh lamb- delicious! Well priced 2015 wine and the usual friendly and efficient service. C19 precautions mean every other table is left empty but the ambience is good and the extra space gives confidence to diners without detracting from the atmosphere.
Landgate is an excelent Bistro. However our visit was distorted by the fact that it was during the Covid period so it did not have as many customers as I am sure it usually has. The staff were excelent and very friendly behind their plastic masks. The food was also excelent and served in portions which where satisfying but not overwhelming. Consequently we had room for 3 courses. All of which were very tasty, well presented and served at just the right interval between. I would definitly recomend this restaurant and am sure it will be even better once the Covid panic is all over.
Our first meal out since the re-opening of restaurants and was a little apprehensive - but I need not have worried. It was quiet, all the customers were well spread out, our waitress wore gloves and a visor and her service was exemplary. The food was delicious and the wine was lovely. As a vegetarian I had a delicious pea & mint soup to start followed by a Hispi cabbage main, which I have had before and had forgotten how good it was. My husband had a starter of scallops, chorizo and pork belly (all his favourite things on one plate!) followed by lemon sole - he also said they were wonderful. We bravely managed to squeeze in a lovely tarte Tatin and an elderflower panna cotta between us for dessert and rolled home in a very happy state.
First night out after covid. Lovely treat and the staff were warm and friendly and it felt very safe.
We have great wine and the food was delicious. Loved the duck main.
Very good service, food enjoyable but very limited menu. My wife could not find any thing she likes on the main course menu, had to settle for soup.
Best food I have had this year. Excellent value for money.
Considering these very strange circumstances, it was a pleasurable experience and the food was as always absolutely delicious. The balance of flavours is perfect.
Amazing food and service as always. Only marked ambience down because the COVID restrictions mean there are fewer tables occupied.
What a fabulous restaurant! Just faultless! Loved the local fresh produce, the attention to detail, the staff, the love with which the food is made, 10/10, well done and thank you 😊
First post Covid meal was delicious!
Food was delicious - wonderful choices and good value for the high quality. The service was absolutely charming! Would hughly recommend and would be haooy to go back tomorrow if I could.
Really lovely restaurant.. the staff were v attentive and friendly. The menu wasn’t huge but it had some great sounding options, esp if you like seafood. The lobster/truffle orzo was divine as was the lamb 3 ways! Also the marmite butter that comes with the bread was a right treat. Overall, v impressed!
Very friendly service. Food was all good, highlight for me was the lobster/orzo starter - delicious, and my husband particularly enjoyed his duck main. Great place for special occasion
Enjoyed excellent meal at Landgate bistro Wednesday evening.
Well looked after throughout.
Delicious complimentary homemade bread and amuse bouche.
Can recommend lamb and cheesecake.
Will definitely be back next time we're in Rye!
Outstanding food and service. Would definitely recommend it. We've eaten here a few times and they've never let us down.
The food was amazing and really good value. The bistro has the feel of being really expensive and exclusive but the staff are so lovely and friendly to everyone and couldn't do enough for the customers. Thank you for a great meal.
Delicious food particularly the lobster risoni which we all thought was outstanding ! Will look forward to returning soon
Last invite booking for dinner as we were visiting Rye and has read good reviews of the Landgate. It did not disappoint. It was scallop week and we had scallops ceviche with apple and lime and scallops with pork belly. We also had lobster with orzo pasta and lemon sole. All totally delicious. I had lemon sorbet with their homemade lemongrass liqueur - the best sorbet I have ever eaten.
Really fabulous meal!
Lovely food. Good menu. Service friendly.
This is the second time I have been here, I was worried that it wouldnt top the first time but the food and service were equally as good.
Superb evening - delicious food, great ambience and service.
Imaginative food served by friendly young staff. Excellent wines
A very enjoyable meal reasonable value good service and very good food
Dined here for my mother’s birthday! Every course was unique yet brilliant. Calm atmosphere with very friendly staff. Would definitely come here again!
Quality food with polite and friendly service. Some disappointment that there was no gluten-free bread available, when the restaurant was informed at the time of booking that one of our party was Coeliac.
Lovely food, friendly service and great ambience. We had the set menu and though there were only 2 choices per course all three courses were delicious.
2nd time we have eaten here... returned after excellent first cvist. Food excellent, service to match.
Having been to the landgate bistro on a few occasions it never ceases to impress. The food is outstanding, the service is friendly and welcoming and is the best place I've eaten in a long time.
It was my first time in Rye and our Valentines evening meal here at the Landgate Bistro was excellent. Highly recommended and every dish was of a high standard with attentive staff that made our evening memorable.
We were warmly welcomed by the front of house staff at Landgate Bistro. It was a birthday meal for my wife, on Valentine's day of all days.. which went down very well. The food was very well made and had so much flavour. Really had a good time and great value too!
