Excellent food and service.
Canoli are delicious.
I found this place only a week ago, and was delighted to bring my husband here at the weekend.
Italian food is our favourite, and seafood pasta is very high on the list.
Calamari Ripeni - stuffed squid. We ordered a starter to "share", and this nearly caused a fight. Really succulent, with loads of flavour. With a bottle of Vermentino, it was perfect.
The husband tried the carbonara di mare [which I'd had the week before] and it's now his favourite dish. I chose black tagliolino, and that's a meal that can sometime lack flavour, once you get over the showiness of black squid ink. But this was delicious.
Prices are very reasonable, considering the quality of ingredients, and the skill in preparing them.
Staff are lovely. The restaurant is cosy. I reckon the bookings for Valentine's night will probably start.......now?
Incredible value for pound.
This little place is typical of a restaurant that's recovered really well from its previous life. Richmond residents and visitors will recall it as 'Amadoro', which was great for a while - and then, wasn't. We'd stopped going.
I'd already done a day's work by the time I got here for a late lunch: just a simple plate of pasta, I thought.
Carbonara di mare is not a combination I'd had before - tiny cubes of tuna cooked to perfection, plus squid and fabulously garlicky prawns. One glass of wine was not enough; as hungry as I was, I slowed right down to savour this one.
I'm taking the husband for dinner soon. He reckons my own Italian cooking is 'restaurant quality'. He's about to discover it's not!
Owner Manolo knows what he's doing, and the chef deserves a medal the size of a frying pan.
A bit disappointed with the overall experience. Starters really average, pasta was ok, service so so. Maybe it was a day off but looking at the previous reviews we felt we were in a completely different restaurant from the one that had been reviewed so far.
This was a lovely experience with waiter and chef who clearly really cared about what they served. Delicious stuffed calamari. A return visit after a while and will be back again soonest next opportunity.
Dinner for two friends on a Friday evening. We reserved a table but it hardly seemed necessary as there were several tables free at 20:00.; it was surprisingly quiet. We shareds the chicken livers as a start and it was superb. For main course I had the spaghetti carbonara and my friend had another pasta dish (both excellent) accompanied by the house red which is perfectly acceptable Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. The service was very good and we enjoyed our meal. Will be returning.
Very small and intimate restaurant just off Richmond Green, Parking in Old Deer Park which was free after 6pm and just a 5 min walk across the Green. Amazing food and service was quiet but attentive, Not the biggest menu but about 8 or 9 choices in starters, mains and dessert but all of very high quality. We both had Seafood Pasta as main and can honestly say the best pasta I’ve ever had. Chefs and owners all from Sardinia so recipes have a Sardinian flavour. really really good and will definitely be going again. Couldn’t fault it.
Small family Italian, everything cooked fresh to order. Had the pasta with bottarga - the owner had just brought the bottarga back from Sardinia with him.
We only had one course and coffee , but enjoyed our pre- theatre meal and will be back to sample the full menu.
Lovely evening with great italian food - really felt like we were in italy with the quality of the food and ingredients!
Lovely fresh pasta and wonderful service! Much recommended!
A little gem hidden away in the side streets of Richmond, we throughly recommend this restaurant .
Have been a few times to L'assaggino and always enjoy the food and atmosphere. It is a cute little restaurant on several floors, which makes it very cozy. The food is always fresh and taste really nice and the staff is nice and friendly. Can only recommend this place.
Loved the food and this was a cosy restaurant with a great atmosphere. A hidden neighbourhood gem.
Warm, friendly service and delicious food, every time.
Lovely fresh pasta, the gnocchi were fabulous! I’ll be going back!
The food was very good and the service unremarkable. Our 3 course meal for 2 cost £105 with wine. I was disappointed that the manager refused to accept my OpenTable Diner's Cheque, stating that the owner did not recognise these cheques. I had checked that L'assaggino was not on the exemptions list (of restaurants that do not accept diner's cheques) and it wasn't.
I am left wondering why I bother using OpenTable and gathering points when there seems to be no way to redeem them. i have asked OpenTable that question and received no response to date.
Excellent and friendly reception on entry and shown to a table upstairs, where it was fairly quiet. Food well presented and very good. Good wine list also.
We all enjoyed our first experience at L'assaggino and will be back. Thank you.
The starters were good. The mains were ridiculously small. The prawn dish had two prawns chopped into bits. The salami dish had no salami...just a sauce. Came away hungry.
Good food. Top class pasta and fish.
What a treat - a great independent Italian restaurant in the heart of Richmond. The food was fresh and authentic, it’s friendly and really good value.
We loved our Sunday lunch, particularly the Sardinian mains. We had to wait a little longer than we expected but overall the food was delicious and the service very friendly and caring, so full stars.
We had high hopes for this restaurant after reading all the very good reviews. Unfortunately we were disappointed. My friend's starter - the squid - was extremely chewy and the sauce rather bland. My main course - the asparagus ravioli was not cooked through and so the bottom was chewy. The prices seemed reasonable but when I received only 4 ravioli squares for a main course it was not good value. The wine was mediocre too. The service was fine and the chocolate dessert excellent. The stairs to the toilet were very difficult to negotiate and so we put off a second visit. We decided not to say anything as the tables were close together and we did not want to ruin anyone else's night. Such a shame we were looking forward to adding a new restaurant to our Richmond list.
Small intimate space serving tasty Sardinian food. Nothing not to like.
Up there with our top 5 local restaurants if your have not tried this little gem, then you should ASAP.
A lovely little Sardinian restaurant just off The Green in Richmond. The service was ok. I had sausages which were very salty but the fish was absolutely scrumptious. I would definitely go back for a second round.
Loved it! This place is the real deal. The chef is Sardinian and the food reflects that. Pasta cooked perfectly and produce fresh and tasty!
Once again we throughly enjoy a splendid evening at this little gem of a restaurant in Richmond, if you have not tried it, you should, if you have then you know exactly what I'm saying. Full marks to the Staffa d management see you soon.
Best Italian food we have had outside Italy. Menu is limited but food is top class. Great friendly service.
Very good experience overall. Intimate and cosy room (upstairs), and very friendly service. Food was excellent, although portions were a little bit shy of what we expected. Will come back soon!
Lovely as always. Food and service really good. Lovely informal local secret. Only thing that spoiled the evening was a very loud boring man on the next table. A great restaurant and good value.
A hidden gem in the heart of Richmond. The Service was very friendly and efficient and the food was amazing.
A very nice dinner date experience with my wife, will definitely visiting again soon.
Friendly, warm vibe with incredible food. The staff were very helpful and personable. Will be returning!
A wonderful Italian eaterie small, but intimate with conscientious and friendly staff who put themselves out for us. The menu is small, but the dishes were original and very tasty and the prices were very reasonable.
Great little cozy spot in Richmond!
Even though i have been to Richmond many many times it was my first time to dine at L'assaggino. I have to say the party were all excited to try it out and we were not disappointed, we asked for the window table whilst making the booking and the restaurant accommodated our request, it is a small place with family business vibes, very nice to sit in. The food is very impressive even though the menu is not extensive it still has great choices and the food is cooked to perfection. A little on the expensive side but it is still worth it. The service was impeccable and the staff was very knowledgeable about the food and wine menu. I would definitely go again and recommend it to anyone.
A friendly welcome and great service at this tiny restaurant in Paved Court. Authentically Italian, with menu items that were new to me - particularly the baby octopus in a rich spicy tomato sauce.
Charming and prompt service, with a great knowledge the food and the wine.
We will return.
I was searching for a lunch venue in Richmond on OpenTable and came accross L'assaggino - I'm very glad to have found it! It's a small, authentic Italian restaurant in the pretty part of town. The food was great, as was the service, and the menu was flexible - so I'd recommend L'assaggino for either a full meal or light lunch. I will definitely return!
I absolutely loved everything about this wonderful restaurant, the food was so fresh and delicious, the staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly a, the wine was superb. We had an amazing evening. Thank you all, and we can not wait to return.
