Overall food and service was good, the only issue was the chairs. They were really low and not comfortable, specially the long chairs.
Coctails are definatly the highlight and food is superb! Would be great if the restaurant was more busy, as we were one on 4 parties dinning and the room looked quite empty.
I dined with some friends as part of London Restaurant Festival. The food was delicious, service and setting were really nice. However we felt really shocked at the bill - two of us couldn’t drink so had a glass of tonic water each but were then charged £9 each, which is extortionate. I realise places make money on drinks but that cost the same as alcohol! It was a bit of a nasty shock at the end of what had been a nice night. Please put the prices of non-alcoholic drinks on your menu if you are going to charge crazy prices! We should have been made aware of this.
Atmosphere & Service
Opulent! If there is one word for Laurent: opulent. Cafe Royal itself has the classical, opulent, elegant feel, and it’s all over Laurent too. Lots of gold! A beautiful, old-style elevator. Stained windows. Chandeliers. It is a Grade II listed building after all.
As you walk in the sushi chefs are literally on show making the sushi with a few bar seats for the sushi. There are 2 areas of seating, which are very different. One is quieter, overlooking the hotel lobby. The other is more like a bar/lounge area, and when we were there, there was a jazz band playing. Great atmosphere because of it! Quite loud though. I was hoarse after 4 hours eating and chatting there!
The food… The cooking is executed very well. All the meats are tender, moist. Nothing dry. The chips there are very crispy. Most of the things there are very flavoursome with whatever flavours they are meant to be.
I think simplicity is more their style though. Classical in some senses. There weren’t any flavours that were interesting or thought-provoking. Everything was flavoursome, but there wasn’t anything that made me think “ooh, what’s that?”. That’s their style. Not the place to expect a pomelo marmalade, or wasabi infused creme chantilly (actually, I’ve never seen that at a restaurant! Yet!). Doing everything very well, using great, flavoursome ingredients to bring out their flavours, and staying within the bounds of more classical combinations of flavours.
The sharing menu at £65pp is a LOT of food! And a very good selection of different dishes to try between everyone!
Is it for you?
If you’re going here, it’s more for the things that surround you, than the things that you eat.
Not to say in any way that the food is bad, or not worth it. The highlight of it is the opulence I think. That’s what Laurent does more so than other places. I’ve been to other restaurants that have cooked just as well, or did interesting, or avant-garde flavours, at cheaper prices. But th
We had the London Restaurant Week menu (2courses for £26 or 3 for £29) and it was a superb meal. We also added some sashimi which just melted in the mouth, as did the beef tartare. Beautiful setting and non-stuffy service and would return in a flash.
Everything was perfect-food, service, atmosphere. I was happy to celebrate my birthday there and would recommend this restaurant to everyone!
Amazing food and service as usual.
Food was excellent, service rather poor. Pls. provide sharp knives for the quality of meat you serve.
Excellent food and service. Scallops were great and the steak and King prawns a real treat. Lovely ambience.
Bit disappointed if I'm being honest. Sommelier messed up the wine order - I ordered a white and he delivered a red - and when he announced the white I wanted was actually out of stock he then had the cheek of offering an alternative that was 50% more expensive. After serving a white I then ordered I had to ask a couple of times for our glasses to be topped up during dinner. Food wise, having selected the OpenTable set menu, the portions were smaller than a couple ordering the same main course off the a la carte menu who were sat at the next table. The only saving grace was the chocolate dessert. This was very good. Highly likely I won't go back.
Fantastic food and Ziggy’s Bar was also most agreeable!
Beautiful setting for an evening meal for a couple or small group. The food was very good, but the waiter did get our starters order wrong. We will be back.
We ate from the set menu and it was fabulous food and amazing value for money.
The food was really good and the ambiance is perfect! Above all, what a 10 star customer service! Will definitely recommend it to my friends.
Excellent food ,one of the best Cod fish in LONDON
Very good service
Excellent. Will definitely be going back. Beautiful ambiance. Food was perfect.
After a long wait for order to be taken - about 30 minutes - as other tables were prioritised by staff, I enjoyed all 3 courses and service improved.
Service from Dan and his colleagues was perfect.
Fabulous menu and setting, will be back
Lovely food and ambience - 3 course offer with Bellini is excellent value.
Great venue for business meal
Great service crew and good food!
Enjoyed myself thoroughly.
Another excellent visit to Restaurant Laurent with some new guests that have been before. Like us they thought it was outstanding. Great Yorkshire puddings to start then possibly the best steak in London followed by our favorite desserts anywhere. The background music was also really good and added to the atmosphere of the room. definitely make sure you are sitting in the front restaurant however and not one of the back corridors.
Really fabulous experience at Laurent. Food was amazing and service was excellent.
perfect venue for vibrant bar but quieter restaurant ... perfect
Everything was absolutely perfect! It’s a hidden gem in Piccadilly Circus, but in the iconic Cafe Royal...A total must!!!
We loved the ambience and excellent level of service. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived at the restaurant's reception.
Beautiful restaurant with an interesting menu and outstanding service. We were visiting London on vacation.
Would have given a 5 but the chips were a bit overcooked and cold. Otherwise we a lovely experience
I believe our waiter was “Chris” - very welcoming and attentive. Lovely food. The Snake River Beef Tataki appetiser was delicious.
The Maitre D popped over to chat which was nice.
Lovely table by the window so able to appreciate the views outside as well as the decor within.
Would happily return next time we go to the theatre.
loved the mix of freshly prepared sushi and conventional main course offerings: food was a delight and dietary needs dealt with quickly and efficiently.
staff were attentive, helpful, smiling, friendly - couldn't have asked for more
Great value pre theatre menu with a Bellini. Excellent service and great setting in the hotel.
I have been to Laurent several times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is delicious and the best thing I have to say about this restaurant is the fantastic service. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend This restaurant and give it 5 stars.
We came to Laurent to celebrate our son and future daughter-in-law’s engagement. It was superb! The food, wine and service was exceptional. I just couldn’t fault it at all. Totally recommend Laurent to everyone.
Very lovely environment and service. Overall good just a bit pricey
Awesome food, very attentive service without being overbearing. Very efficient too as we were heading to an early theatre performance.
Food was odd to say the least. blue cheese Yorkshire puddings to start and sushi after? The chef had not thought of pairing properly. Excessive without being elegant
Service by Kamir was impeccable. Food also was outstanding. Sushi was very fresh and delicious. 5 star
