Came for lunch Saturday - lunch menu is excellent value for money. Service was spot on and the food was delicious - we both had a couple of Aperol spritzers - again very good. Will definitely be back.
Fabulous choice of delicious starter and mains, generous portion sizes. Slightly confused as to the champagne given it was Italian sparkling wine!. The desserts let it down as the choice was patisserie rather than true desserts. The tart was a little dry and would have benefited from ice cream or cream. The gateaux was very good!, as was the coffee. Excellent selection of wines also. We had dinner at Le Bistrot, great atmosphere but have given it 3 stars at times we couldn’t hear what our friends were saying. If there are 4 or more at a table you were seated in a side room which was very noisy. Excellent food and fantastic value. Plus great location and beautiful surroundings.
Lovely ambiance and very friendly staff. I had the steak which was cooked perfectly but the peppercorn sauce was disappointing. Mum had the Coq au vin, again beautifully cooked but lacking the expected rich sauce. However, I would definitely recommend it and would go again.
The food was good though not outstanding. Caesar salad disappointing. The staff were pleasant but serving at table was not very professional - leaning over people to put plates down. We had to ask for the music to be turned down as rather loud at first.
The food was reasonably tasty and the price was fine because of the 30% discount. The normal price would have been high for the quality of the food. Service was okay and the place has a nice ambience . They had run out of Savignon Blanc wine which I found quite surprising for a Saturday night
Good food and wine
This was our first visit to the Bistro. The food was very good and reasonably priced. We each had a 2 course lunch, a glass of wine each finishing off with a coffee and small cake for just over £40 which was good. The staff are all French so if you want to practice your French they are more than willing. All very convivial and I've no doubt we'll be back. Note that their menu says cash only, they do accept cards.
Great service and delicious brunch . Nice and calm environment
Great place very busy. Lovely food. Our server did not speak good English so that made ordering difficult but the manager was on top of it and resolved problems almost without being asked. Tables close together
The starter of scallops was great but coq au vin was only adequate
The food was excellent, being of high quality, and generous portions. The service friendly and professional. The restaurant was very busy, but much quieter in the side area in which we were as we were seated. The only mistake we made was in not checking that the waiter knew we wanted a bottle of wine, not 4 single glasses. The restaurant was my choice, and the other members of my party thought it a very good one. Looking forward to having dinner there, next month.
Fabulous food, great service, lovely atmosphere
Good choices, very flavoursome and generous portions size. Very attentive staff and such a lovely setting in a great location.
Le bistro was warm and welcoming. The waiters were attentive and friendly. I had the chicken skewers and they were delicious. My friends were all pleased with their food choices.
The deserts look fabulous but my apple flan was fairly ordinary.
My only criticism is the bent chairs are not the most confortable.
Overall a pleasant experience and I will definitely return.
Delicious food and pleasant atmosphere. Will definitely come back.
Excellent service and food with an authentic French taste.
Ir was very full and got rather noisy. The waiters were very ice but had too much work for the number of tables there were. Soup was very nice - friends both had cheese pastry which was a bit dull. Second course was a large helping - very tasty but none of us could finish our plates. Very nice wine.
My favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. Great value. Great food. But most of all friendly service
Good food and friendly, efficient service. Our party enjoyed our lunch and will go again.
Absolutely lovely evening at le Bistrot, so authentic and fantastic attention to detail and customers! Just lovely!
A magnificent meal, an absolute gem of a restaurant. The owner and staff are wonderful and food is exquisite authentic french cuisine. Looking forward to going again.
Le Bistrot offers a relaxing experience with fantastic friendly service and a real French feel.
The food is delicious.
a very pleasant place for a relaxed lunch, but rather noisy.
Good value. Quirky and easy going
Had a beautiful meal at le Bistrot, service was great and the food was delicious. Would thoroughly recommend a visit.
I eat here frequently, 3 times this week! It's a lovely atmosphere and the food is fresh and exceptional quality. The staff are friendly and very professional. I do not think I will be able to resist the cakes next time. Oh and you must try their coffee, divine!
Our first visit to this restaurant and it didn’t disappoint. The staff were very friendly and efficient especially as we turned up with 2 less in our party than we’d booked for and 30 mins early! It wasn’t a problem and the staff fitted us in on a very good table. Food was good and was the house vino. Definitely worth a visit 👌
Lovely food and friendly staff. Good for a meal or for popping in for a drink.
Food was good--traditional French fare.
Best spot in the Old Town and a welcome addition to Edinburgh's foodie scene.
French flair, outstanding service and welcoming surroundings makes this is must visit for the discerning diner or a convivial stop off for a chat, coffee and outstanding cake.
Second visit to this French bistro. The food is delicious and authentic. The staff are friendly and attentive. Perfect central location. Likely to become a favourite for lunch get-togethers with friends.
