Second visit and happy to report the same excellent standard for all three guests for set lunch representing superb value and quality.
Lunch. Good food poor service
Just what you want from a French bistro; full of flavour , French atmosphere and portions a sensible size.
Excellent value for money. Delicious lunch, a bit noisy but would definitely return.
Disappointed that the menu had changed since my last visit
Lovely place. Great food. V nice wine.
Overall very nice experience.
Good food and good value for money service good lovely places to have lunch or dinner .
service was sloooowwww, which was really frustrating for my kids
Had an excellent lunch with old friends
Staff attentive and helpful
Flexible about our various requirements re foods
Plenty of choices in the menu, Moules were reported as excellent as was sea bass
Cheese platter was a good choice with variety and freshness
Only negative was noise level with no soft furnishings to absorb some of the noise
Le Bistrot food is just amazing. It is a cut above the other local eateries. The venue is ideal (for me) on the Royal Mile and even though it is slightly hidden away it is very busy. As a result I would suggest booking is essential. Service can take a little bit longer than ideal for a quick bite at lunchtime. So if you only have an hour you will possibly be pushed. Overall, highly recommended and well worth a visit.
Lovely food as always but the service was really disappointing - had to ask for menus twice, for the bill about 3 times and for the card machine to pay 3 times! Luckily we weren’t in a hurry.
Very pleasant, tasty food and good value.
Good solid Bistro style food. The venue was very quiet with only a few over tables taken so it lacked a bit in atmosphere. Also, bill did not include 30% deduction on food which had been offered on Opentable when booking.
Lovely food, attentive, friendly service, good value
We were assigned a table at a quiet corner in a separate section which was very private. However, the restaurant seemed particularly busy and we waited for ages until the waiter was aware that he had to come and take food order for us. Felt like we've spent at least two hours for our lunch.
Great food as always, love this place
Been there twice now with small group.
Very much enjoyed both occasions.
Staff try very hard to get it right.
Interesting venue in prestigious location. Well worth a visit.
Had a very nice lunch, nice staff and nice atmosphere.
Lovely meal at a very reasonable price. Excellent value for money.
Very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The food was really lovely and there was a nice atmosphere. What really set this place apart from the rest though was the service. Our waiter was very attentive with a warm demeanor. Nothing was an issue and he went above and beyond to satisfy our needs. Sad we didn't get his name but in our experience he was the best waiter in Edinburgh!
We had the two course lunch which was very good. Lots of choice and high quality food at a reasonable price. When our bill arrived we had been grossly undercharged, when we pointed this out we were given a complimentary sweet, which was very yummy.
Absolutely fantastic! Food was absolutely phenomenal, I had the chicken breast with asparagus and mashed potatoes. At the end they gave us a complimentary almond croissant which was delicious. Chef came to the table and asked us how we liked the food himself. Would recommend to anyone in Edinburgh trying to go somewhere that is underrated and less crowded.
First time , really enjoyed experience. Building is lovely in side, food excellent , very generous portions
The food is amasing! 2nd time I've been. Gastronomically outstanding. Service is average, however. They are all very nice but a bit slow and disorganised which prevents me from giving 5/5. Also, ambience is a tad noisy and cafe-like. Nothing wrong with that, but the superb food deserves a bit more attention in this area. Nevertheless, I will go back with great enthusiasm as food is one of my best Edinburgh experiences!
Food and service very good.
Only complaint music too loud. Turned down on request for a time the turned up again.
Having been before I brought 3 friends with me. The food was very good and hot which was nice. My friends all said that they would come back
The staff were very pleasant and helpful. I had the linguine and Gambia’s in a tomato sauce. This would have benefited from some Parmesan cheese. I should have asked for some, because it was not offered.
Excellent value two course lunch with probably the best mussels I have ever eaten
Lovely atmosphere. Friend and I both had a main course only - the beef stew (daube) was very flavoursome.
Great service from friendly staff. Would definitely go again.
Very good experience with lunch with friends
Plenty of choice but very poor on anything gluten free, was told macaroons were available but was having the cheese platter!!
Cheese platter was delicious but addition of gluten free oatcakes would have made it even better
Friend had moules, declared excellent
Lovely food and service. Scallops and leeks delicious.
Came for lunch Saturday - lunch menu is excellent value for money. Service was spot on and the food was delicious - we both had a couple of Aperol spritzers - again very good. Will definitely be back.
Fabulous choice of delicious starter and mains, generous portion sizes. Slightly confused as to the champagne given it was Italian sparkling wine!. The desserts let it down as the choice was patisserie rather than true desserts. The tart was a little dry and would have benefited from ice cream or cream. The gateaux was very good!, as was the coffee. Excellent selection of wines also. We had dinner at Le Bistrot, great atmosphere but have given it 3 stars at times we couldn’t hear what our friends were saying. If there are 4 or more at a table you were seated in a side room which was very noisy. Excellent food and fantastic value. Plus great location and beautiful surroundings.
Loved this place so much have booked to go back using the same deal. Excellent value.
Lovely ambiance and very friendly staff. I had the steak which was cooked perfectly but the peppercorn sauce was disappointing. Mum had the Coq au vin, again beautifully cooked but lacking the expected rich sauce. However, I would definitely recommend it and would go again.
The food was good though not outstanding. Caesar salad disappointing. The staff were pleasant but serving at table was not very professional - leaning over people to put plates down. We had to ask for the music to be turned down as rather loud at first.
The food was reasonably tasty and the price was fine because of the 30% discount. The normal price would have been high for the quality of the food. Service was okay and the place has a nice ambience . They had run out of Savignon Blanc wine which I found quite surprising for a Saturday night
Good food and wine
This was our first visit to the Bistro. The food was very good and reasonably priced. We each had a 2 course lunch, a glass of wine each finishing off with a coffee and small cake for just over £40 which was good. The staff are all French so if you want to practice your French they are more than willing. All very convivial and I've no doubt we'll be back. Note that their menu says cash only, they do accept cards.
Great service and delicious brunch . Nice and calm environment
