We have visited here on several occasions but this experience was very poor. The food was of poor quality, the service not attentive despite there never being more than 3 tables occupied and no atmosphere (which was one of the reasons we have repeatedly returned). What has changed to make such a big difference? We won’t be returning.
This was my 2nd time and there will be a 3rd ,food, service and value for money all great.
Outstanding service, courteous staff. And in Edinburgh that says a lot. Great cooking with excellent ingredients. Strongly recommend it. Only issue I have they could crack the heat up a bit more.
Fantastic location, wonderful French style cooking and a lovely atmosphere
Excellent food and relaxing atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Good food, but draughty on a cold evening, and noisy.
Dinner with friends. Nice menu, great food and very good service. Thank you!
Busy venue on a Friday lunchtime, good atmosphere but not too loud. The service was excellent despite a full house. The food was good with a decent choice and exceptional value (2 courses for £12.95).
Always good food, charming staff, exceptional value.
Delicious food . A great price for the set lunch but would like to see the choice changed more often. They do have daily specials though. The service is attentive. Can be busy at lunch time and the noise level rises.
A lively atmosphere with friendly staff and nice food.
Perfect for a relaxing evening with friends
My third visit here. Always buzzing. Food splendid, representing excellent lunchtime value. Will definitely return.
We arrived at 1pm and my main course had not been served by 1.50pm. I decided to forgo it and was offered a free coffee in compensation
Food good but haggis in filo needed sauce on side to keep pastry crisp. Tables quite crowded, and noise level daunting. Good service and value.
We came early but still got a table. Everything was excellent except the noise- difficult to make oneself heard but that meant everyone was enjoying themselves!
Bright venue. Reasonably comfortable. Menu is limited. Service was fine and the waiter was engaging but I thought the food I had was boring and bland.
Must be the best value in town. Delicious food - large portions, too. Place was crowded on Thursday lunchtime with non booked people having to be turned away. Only downside is the side room with larger tables is echoey when full of diners and it's hard to be heard.
A lovely restaurant. This is the 2nd time I've been - both were excellent. The food was great and the service briiliant. Lovely building too.
Lovely food and wine. Venue is nice and very central. Only thing which affected us was a very loud, crying child which is not the restaurant's fault!
I love visiting Le Bistrot for the food and the atmosphere. Highly recommend booking a table though as it is often busy
The starters were very nice, as were the mains, several really enjoyed the veggie haggis, but what let the meal down for some, were the puddings. The cheesecake had hard pastry base and the apricot tart was tasty but again the base was hard and too thick, which was a shame as everything else had been enjoyed.
Good lunch menu. Food well cooked and presented but my main spoiled by being served on a cold plate so was quickly luke warm and then cold. Service was poor overall: slow and we weren't asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. It seemed to take ages to catch the eye of staff to ask for coffee and then the response was did we want more coffee! Despite these criticisms would try again.
Had a lovely relaxing brunch with excellent food and friendly service. An oasis of calm in a busy Edinburgh setting with an authentic French feel.
Delicious and great service! We had a wonderful time and would recommend.
This is a reasonably priced, reasonably well done, and very well located bistro in the centre of Edinburgh. As one might hope, there are some very decent French wines for the money, and the deserts all looked very enticing indeed.
Food was tasty. Staff very attentive and friendly and polite. Only thing was that disturb our atmosphere was the feeling outside just next to our table but that couldn't be helped and was a temporary inconvenience. I'm sure this is not a regular thing, the French consulate must have been undergoing some refurbishment work. Overall, pleasant experience however not sure if we are going to be back.
Have been several times and staff always friendly, food and ambience very good
What a great meal! Good food, great atmosphere. Felt like I was in a restaurant in France! I've already recommended it to several friends
Very good service and the food was excellent - it was our second visit and we thoroughly enjoyed both visits the food is consistently of the highest standard and great value
This is the third time we have been to Le Bistrot and it was another very good experience. The food is very good and is reasonably priced which makes the whole experience very good value for money. The service was on the whole good. The reason that that is not very good as that it can be a little slow. We did wait quite a while for our coffees. I would have no qualms about recommending this place.
A pointless review in this case as it was closed and the booking system was clearly not aware they it would be closed because of the Fast and Furious filming outside the building.
Have been to your restaurant many times so know how good the experience can be. Came with friends on Friday evening. The food was great as usual, but the service left me a bit disappointed. Staff were busy standing chatting to each other instead of being more attentive. I will still be back because your food is very good.
Friendly staff and tasty food. the mussels with chips were delicious. Would come again
Carefully prepared delicious food. Real French bistrot ambience.
Lovely place. The food and service were wonderful and that was at the height of the Edinburgh Festival smack right in the middle of town, which was heaving. So all credit to waiters under those conditions. Under normal conditions, the noise level is much lower. Only complain is that the size of my piece of taste was rather meagre...but I put that down to nervousness given the busiest weekend of the Festival.
An oasis of calm in the midst of festival frenzy.
Service was very good and the ambience was lovely.
Our meals were good but the Prawn linguine was slightly over cooked as though it had been around for a while.
Roasted cod was beautifully cooked.
The restaurant is a great find and I visited twice. I felt my lunch meal was much better than dinner.
Le Bistrot is a fantastic restaurant. I rarely order meat dishes when I dine out in case it's tough but the beef casserole at Le Bistrot was succulent, delicious and beautifully tender. My husband was bowled over by the cod with chorizo and pak-choy. Both dishes were super and we will definitely be going back soon.
Excellent
Address is not West Parliament Square!

Food was excellent. Service poor. Waiter was unable to give information about the food, and did not go and find out! Wine not served well, slow to get attention of waiting staff to pay bill. More staff training needed.
Excellent food at very reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Recommend the Daube and Moules.
