Was a nice quiet small area restaurant with staff friendly and helpful. If I'm to make a slight negative in review would be my choice of beef stew as it did state vegetables etc . But once presented just could only see on my plate was chunks of meat and gravy

I’d not been here since before Covid but I knew I’d feel comfortable dining alone. It’s the closest I’ll get to France for a while and it’s a pretty good substitute 👍🏼 staff were very pleasant and helpful. I’d asked about a pastis as an aperitif but even though it wasn’t on the menu (why on earth don’t they have pastis or calvados???) they found a bottle of Pernod (definitely better than no pastis😉) so I got my aperitif. Hats off to them for a small thing but it meant a lot to me 👏🙏 the food is delicious as was the glass of wine and espresso. I’ll be back next time I’m in Edinburgh 👍🏼

We booked this venue for our evening meal while visiting Edinburgh for my husbands birthday based on location, menu and previous reviews. All in all we were very pleased. The restaurant was very busy, clearly popular, the staff were polite. There was an issue with my husbands meal but this was addressed, and on top they gave him a dessert with a candle & played happy birthday to him. Food generally seems good, excellent presentation.

Usually go to le bistro for it’s excellent daytime light meals, superb espresso and delicious cakes. However was recently there for the dinner menu time so plumped for gigot d’agneau . . . can still taste it! If you love a continental vibe and great food then go!

Everything was great, but for those (like me) who don't like a noisy environment to eat in, the level of noise was almost unbearable - my companion and I had to shout at each other. Apart from that, all was lovely - but I would recommend with reservations.

We enjoyed our visit for cocktails and a French dessert, bought via a deal with My Ideals. At the end, the member of staff said there was an additional amount to pay, however I knew there wasn’t and a manager confirmed this. I think with these deals, everyone needs to know what they are valid for, as I was treating a friend and to have this discussion at the end ruined things a bit. You sell lots of deals, so why not make it clear to customers and staff what these are worth, saving the embarrassment at the end.

Very slow service. Blackboard menu, but things had run out. We were not told, so we ordered French Onion Soup, as per blackboard ‘Soup du jour’. We got a watery green broccoli soup. The waitress, who did not serve us, said the onion soup was finished. My friend had fish, which was overcooked. The items listed on the blackboard menu were not on the plate. Perhaps they too had run out. I did not finish my chicken and mashed potato. To be fair, when we complained, the manager did not charge us for the mains.

We were advised that there would be a 20 minute wait for the hachis parmentier, which we didn't mind, but, when it arrived, it was difficult to understand what we had been waiting for. It was very dry and, in our opinion, under-seasoned. We weren't offered dessert, so actually went to the counter ourselves. We then had to ask for an explanation of the various options. The tarte aux pommes was perfectly acceptable, but the pasty was very thick, dense and hard, to the point where we both left quite a lot of the crust. Coffee was good and we both said that we would return for morning coffee, but not for meals in the future. All in all, a fairly indifferent experience and not what we had hoped for.

This was my first time at this restaurant. The quality of food was excellent and in these inflationary times the value for money was great. There service was first class and there was an excellent ambience. It was an all round splendid experience.

I ordered the lamb shepherd's pie. The meat was very dry and I struggled to finish it because of this. However the lamb shank, which my friend had, was deliciously perfect. The pinot noir was lovely too. It won't put me off returning to Le Bistrot but I admit I waa disappointed.

Delighted to have discovered this gem of a place, location, food, service & ambiance is superb! We booked for brunch, with a great selection on the menu and good sized portions, we stayed for cakes which were too nice not to, rounded off with cocktails- why not! I found this gem through researching reviews and it did not disappoint! Can’t wait to return. Excellent service topped it off!

Le Bistrot is pleasant enough though the music is a bit too loud. I had the beef ragout and was a bit disappointed as some of the meet could have stewed longer and the sauce said nothing to me. It took the staff 20 minutes to organise ice cream, and the coffee was served before the desert. Unimpressive, overall.
