Contemporary French
Le Central is a French bistro, focusing on modern interpretations of classic dishes featuring local products from Sakonnet Lobsters, Four Town Farm (Seekonk, MA), Walker's Farm (Barrington, RI), Scott the Bassman, and Little Rhody Eggs (Foster, RI). Low lighting, checkerboard floor tiling, glass tabletops, and French nu-Jazz provide an intimate yet warm and familiar atmosphere.
Chef-owner Jesse James spent his early career in Boston, working with chefs Moncef Meddeb at L'Espalier and Jasper White at Jasper's, with further experience at various other prestigious and landmark restaurants in New York, France, and Italy. Le Central is the third restaurant he has designed, built, and operated, after Aperto (Est 1992) and Boca Rotis (Est 1997), both in San Francisco.
The large painting by Inez Storer on the south wall of the restaurant (which also serves as the background of the restaurant's website) is of Jesse's son, Sam, and his dog, Skye. Inez wouldn't say who the guy in the chair is.

We went for Fathers Day and my husband said we might have to make this a tradition. We all loved our meal and the staff was great.

Brilliant cuisine. Wonderful service. Best in Bristol and our go to for lunch, brunch, dinner or just drinks and light hors d’ oeuvres.

Food was very good and came out quickly Front of the house needs a lot of work. The server was a deer in headlights, very green, did not have her timing down or steps of service. Tables were uneven and mismatched. Paper straws disintegrated in a half a drink. Manager was unwilling to accommodate a simple request.

It was a rainy night : ). Donna and I set a seven thirty reservation greeted warmly in this window front bistro on the main drag. We stated with two of the salads hers endive and walnut. Mine greens and blue cheese. Both amazing and generously portioned Then I opted for the duck purine with a delightful spicy cheddar sauce. Donna the rack of lamb. Both perfectly rare as to our instructions Run don’t walk to these chefs.

This was our second visit to this excellent restaurant. Our waitperson, Kristen, also the GM, was, as remembered from our previous visit, welcoming and very informative. We had excellent salads, charcuterie and pate plates accompanied by a very good and reasonably priced, Sancerre. Everything was nicely presented and very much in the tradition of French restaurants.
This restaurant is a quiet gem and well worth visiting.

Food and service were excellent. Plus menu is very reasonably priced. The interior looked like it could use a bit of a face lift. Also it would be lovely to have more comfortable chairs. All in all though, a great little place.

Le Central is a consistently good choice for lunch or dinner. We had three generations of family celebrating Mother's Day weekend and we all were able to find something to our liking on the menu. (Although there wasn't a kids menu our 8-year old was happy with the enormous burger and crisp fries.) The oysters were large, fresh and perfectly shucked, the coriander shrimp salad got a rave review, and the ceviche starters were excellent as was the cauliflower soup. My salmon Nicoise was also excellent. The only slight disappointment was an unimaginative house bloody Mary due to lack of any kind of garnish. It should be noted that portions are not huge--which is to my liking and typical of European cuisine--so you shouldn't plan on pigging out there. Overall, it is a nice change of pace, the food is always good and we will be back.

We have not had a bad meal at Le Central ... ever. The service is good, atmosphere quaint and friendly, and food delicious. My husband and I recommend this restaurant to friends and when hosting family or friends from out of state usually take them there.

Le Central, our go-to choice for special occasions, was everything we have come to expect - delicious cuisine at a reasonable price in a pleasant atmosphere.

The best steak-frites this side of the Atlantic!

Le Central is overpriced for where and what it is. The ambiance does not feel upscale, but you're paying upscale prices. The food is good, but the portions are not. Bristol is beautiful and the staff is friendly, but there are much better places to eat in town.

I LOVE COMING TO LE CENTRAL. I'VE BEEN THERE EVERY WEEK SINCE IT OPENED. THE QUIET YET STIMULATING AMBIANCE IS PERFECT. THEIR CAULIFLOWER SOUP WITH FRIED CAPERS IS THE MOST WONDERFUL SOOTHING STARTER. I'D NEVER EVEN CONSIDERED A FRIED CAPER BEFORE! SUCH A MINI THRILL!
THE STAFF IS SO COURTEOUS AND HELPFUL, I CAN'T STAY AWAY!!!
