Le Marmiton
Our seasonal menu is inspired from the classic French cuisine in a rustic and cosy ambiance, from the wooden floor, brick walls and copper pans hanging on it !
We also offer a nice selection of wines from France and other parts of the old and new world, and a quirky selection of spirits and digestives.
We have a bar area for pre dinner drinks or just to enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine !
A bientot !
I came to Le Marmiton with my boyfriend for their weekday set menu. There was a good selection and it was brilliant value for money. The food was great and the service was excellent. We will definitely be back again very soon.
A friendly, efficient and authentic restaurant. Excellent food delivered by a great team.
We have dined here a few times and it can be quiet sometimes - don’t let that put you off as it is well worth a visit.
It is not the cheapest restaurant in the area but it consistently provides a lovely dining experience.
Having read previous reviews we went with an open mind as to what to expect. Food was very nice, my steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Service was very slow though. Not the place to go for a quick meal. Staff were very friendly too.
Very nice meal, good quality food and very efficient, friendly service. Particularly accommodating in that they let us have their previous special offer which I had enquired about over the phone even though they are now promoting a different offer of a set menu, in addition to the a la carte. Delicious sauce with my steak. Excellent that they accept the Opentable dining cheques - one of the very few restaurants that I know of that do accept them. Will definitely recommend to others and will plan to return.
Ordered prawns for starter and they arrived undercooked! The main course was steak Diane & fries which was ok, but the fries were barely cooked (white in colour) and the dish lacked any imagination. For the price I was expecting much better and left disappointed.
Great place, friendly staff, delicious french toast!
We went for Saturday brunch and really enjoyed it. Nice atmosphere, lovely staff and great food. We would like to go another time to try the main menu.
very disappointed with choice of food - salmon on croute -pastry soggy at the bottom and inedible
Really tasty brunch today on our second visit to this new bistro in the area.
Eggs benedict and the eggs royal were both really good.
Service friendly and nice choice of beers and cocktails.
Tasteless food. Poor presentation. Awkward waiters. Very disappointing. Not worth a visit.
Very friendly helpful staff. Nice menu but on a Tuesday night it would be great to have had the option of a fixed price daily set menu also. There were only 2 or 3 other tables dining so it might be worth a try. We had a lovely evening, very nice wine list, but the end bill was a bit higher than we would usually pay on a Tuesday night in Wanstead.
Everything was adequate/pleasant but not notable or memorable
Easy to book, spacious, friendly attentive staff, good choice of excellent good in pleasant surroundings.
A great addition to Wanstead, rustic French bistro ... good quality food and reasonably priced. Recommend.
Always happy to support local restaurants as long as they offer good food and service. Marmiton does. I also liked that one of the starters was smoked salmon sourced from the fishmongers 6 doors away. Good and friendly service and good vfm. This is our second time at this restaurant and I have no doubt we will become regulars. It’s not haute cuisine, but well presented food, reasonably priced. I also noted that the menu had changed significantly since our last visit.
Sunday lunch was excellent. Meat was outstanding but could have had more vegetables.
Sunday Lunch with my 11 year old son.
Fantastic choice of 3 roasts or a combination of all. Delicious!
Service was attentive and the ambience reminded us of our trip to France.
Great value for miney
A very disappointing experience. No atmosphere, poor decor, paper napkins (!) steak ok but no proper French fries.
The food was perfection. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The only down side was that it wasn’t very busy eating at 7pm so lacked a little soul. Once we left, it was filling up with diners which made it feel a little warmer. Cannot fault the food and I’m sure once people know how good it is, it will be hard to book a table!! A real hidden gem.
It was quiet for a Friday night so we were in and out a bit too quickly but every course was delicious. Not the most extensive menu but if the quality is like this, who cares!
Le Marmiton is a relatively new addition to Wanstead and we went on 26/10/2018 for a celebration meal with family.
The food was exceptional, as were the staff and despite having very fussy eaters in the group everyone went away very satisfied.
The stand out starter was a chicory/walnut/blue cheese salad that was amazing, closely followed by the scallops and bacon.
All the mains were good, but the Pork Chops just edged out the Chateaubriand.
For Dessert, the cream brûlée and Ice cream (top quality) were also good
Service and the wine list was just right.
I can see this becoming a bit of an institution in the coming years.
Delicious, generous portions and a lovely setting.
Have been here a few times and had great food and service every time. Has kept us coming back.
Lovely scallops and very succulent pork. Limited menu but ingredients sourced well. Good ambience. Will visit again.
We very much enjoyed our meal at Marmiton. The service was friendly and helpful. The menu offered a refreshingly modest choice and the food was tasty and well presented with good sized portions. The house wine was reasonably priced and very palatable. We will visit again.
Lovely food, great service, had a lovely time would definitely go again and recommend it
I was going to be very late - no problem at all. It was a Thursday night but lovely ambience, not silent but perfect for two friends to catch up (we were next to a party). Service chilled, just enough interaction and very helpful, friendly but not over the top (my pet hate is try too hard waiting staff) & not fussy.
not a large menu but perfect for us. Saw the desserts so skipped starters, food delicious, portion size just enough, wine great - very helpful recommendations. Desserts lovely - couldn’t eat it all.
£80 for 2 including service & wine.
Loved the whole experience & will go back.
Had a lovely two course meal on a Saturday evening. The staff were friendly, the service was good and the food was very good. I know of no other local restaurant where Chateaubriand is on the menu. AND it was reasonably priced! This is a bistro so was relaxed and we will definitely go back, either just the two of us or with our children. They deserve to become well established in the High St. and I hope they succeed.
Good authentic French food in a lovely setting. Restaurant had a good atmosphere, not too loud. Food came without much of a wait. Overall would definitely recommend.
A pleasant evening. I’d hope, in time, to see Marmiton provide competition to Provender further down the High Street. First, some teething problems need to be overcome: dampening the noise; staff a little unfamiliar with the wine menu; and service struggling a touch with the challenging long and thin dining room. Only significant negative was a very undercooked medium rare steak - hopefully a one-time mistake. More positively, scallops, crab & crayfish, and duck confit were all excellent. We’ll definitely try again in the near future.
Immediate friendly welcome by the staff as we entered and quickly shown to our table. Waiting staff extremely helpful and attentive. Drinks arrived quickly and order taken promptly. Not too long to wait for first courses which we all enjoyed - we had duck rillettes, crab & crayfish and seared scallops. Next came soft and tasty lamb cutlets, duck leg which fell off the bone and grilled swordfish. A small problem with over-salty swordfish was quickly dealt with and replaced in double quick time without fuss, the second plate being very much enjoyed.
Overall a lovely local restaurant with good staff and reasonable prices.
Lovely restaurant, good quality food, staff very helpful and friendly. The menu is quite limited but food is well presented and delicious. Only been opened for 6 weeks and I wish the restaurant every success.
Had been looking forward to trying out this new restaurant and wasn't disjointed. Great service and the food was the nicest wd've had locally for a while.
Very much looking forward to going back and trying their sunday lunch.
Although you can't park outside there is a car park a couple of minutes walk around the corner.
The main course arrived seconds after we'd finished our starter and it would have been nice to have had a few minutes between. Otherwise, a lovely experience and I can't wait to go back.
A limited menu, which is fine, but I thought they may have had a couple of choices on the specials board rather than just the one. We all enjoyed our food, the four of us having the scallops to start, (didn't really fancy any of the other starters) - two of us had the pan roasted salmon & nicoise salad, (needed the fries on the side which we paid extra for). Sea Bream and steak bavette were also much enjoyed. Prune & cognac tart, chocolate 'charlotte' and creme brulee also all very good. Worth giving this place a try, can't put my finger on it, but felt it lacked atmosphere.
Had a late lunch on Saturday with family (including toddler and babies) for my husband’s birthday. Staff were friendly and accommodating and food delicious and nicely cooked. Would recommend
Nice addition to the local neighbourhood, authentic French food with attentive service. We will return!
Very good food and attentive service and pleased to see it had quite a few customers evenon a Tuesday evening.
Lively food, great service. This was a early evening meal, post theatre matinee. Great to unwind. Staff friendly and attentive, but not obtrusive.
A good addition to Wanstead’s food offer. Will definitely be going again.
4 of us went for dinner and all really enjoyed it. I had snails which were excellent. The wine was v good too. Nice atmosphere.
