Le Pain Quotidien - Royal Festival Hall
Terrible service - we had to ask several times just for drinks.
The food, when it arrived (having tried to give us the wrong order first time) was poor. We both ordered the same thing - avocado on toast with scrambled eggs and salmon.
The portion sizes varied wildly. Both had very small amounts of avocado (maybe an 1/8 of avo) which had been smeared across the bread (not toast), which was dry. Served with cold butter.
Scrambled eggs were cold and salmon brown. Do not recommend.
It's a sophisticated cafe with a rustic feel, so overall the experience was okay. Should have had a closer look at the breakfast menu, pricing was quite steep for what you get in terms of scrambled eggs on toast. The coffee was nice and the orange juice was fresh. Service was good, a slow start when trying to let someone now about a booking, we chose to sit outside which was nice.
Was it worth £17? I wouldn't be back in a hurry.
Really nice early dinner start to a theatre evening .. we had 8 of us sharing the cheese and meat platters to start.. with olives and hummus and guacamole extra.. all delicious and delivered promptly..the shared platters also meant that we got bottles of either wine or Prosecco half price.. ok great!!
I then had the vegan curry which was also yummy.. others had the mushrooms, chicken , and salads..all very delicious.
We love Le Pain Quotidien .. for casual buzzy atmosphere and delicious bites ,plus excellent veggie options and can do about gluten free, and all at a very reasonable price, you can’t beat it!!
loved it. Good choice of food, swiftly served and in a friendly manner, nice wine at a reasonable price. It's a perfect place to go for pre-theatre/concert suppers; we had two sharing plates of charcuterie and cheese with bread and salad, which suited the four of us very well.
Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Good food generally and nice wine.
Despite the staff being really overworked, the service was good. The restaurant does need to employ a few more people!
Very very busy but food
came quickly and service was efficient. Food was fine: we chose vegan option soup and seeed/avocado salad. Quick, healthy and very convenient for South Bank events.
The service is good. The food was so poor I will not go there again. My friends and I all had so-called croque monsieur. This consisted of slices of dry bread with meagre portions of ham and cheese, accompanied by a small bowl of tomato ketchup and a bowl of tomato and lettuce leaves. At over £13 that is outrageous. So disappointing, as I used to like going there. Never again.
Wait staff was friendly. The avocado toast was amazing and I had the best mocha I have ever drank!
A favourite, love this chain and this branch too 🙂
Maybe fine for a coffee but for dinner the service is way too inattentive. Desserts were over sweet. Even the bread wasn’t great.
My chicken pie and vegetables were incredibly dry - to the point of being laborious to chew. I mentioned it to the waitress - who said they used to serve it with gravy but no longer do, for some reason. My friend, who had the warm grain salad, said hers was equally dry. The staff were apologetic and offered us free tea/ coffee to compensate. Our puddings were fine - we asked the waitress to suggest puddings that were NOT dry! The large downstairs seating area was noisy - loud classical music playing and, as the area filled up, the sound of chatter echoed around the space and made conversation difficult as we had to shout to hear each other. I left with a headache and the impression that Pain Quotidien is great for pastries and puddings - and their dark chocolate spread is one I go out of my way to buy - but... while it is a fine place to pop in for a snack before going to the Royal Festival Hall, it's not a place to go if you want to linger over a delicious dinner.
I visit different restaurants in this chain and always enjoy the food options as a vegetarian. This branch is very convenient in meeting people who are coming from different areas around London, however I was very disappointed by the service this time. The management really need to look at this and find ways of ensuring that different servers don’t duplicate their time while others do follow up on orders. It’s not happened to me here before do I’m curious to know what has changed ?
Shocking experience. I was shown to a table and just left there. I gave up after 20 minutes and left to go somewhere else.
Booked a table pre-theatre. Staff were not aware of the booking. Ordered vegetarian chilli and said on outset to make sure that it would be hot on arrival. It was luke-warm, so sent it back. After 15 minutes, it was returned in baking hot dish, but the contents was still not hot. Allowed 1 1/2 hours for meal, but because of slow service and poor food, left without ordering a dessert or coffee. Disappointing experience.
Great idea with organic produce, healthy dishes with plenty vegan and vegetarian options, but the taste is sometimes lacking with the warm / hot dishes.
Service was a bit slow, so at busy times prepare for a bit of a “catch the waiter’s eye” game. For example, people who arrived after us at nearby table were served first etc, but the staff are polite and helpful with special dietary requirements.
A disappointing visit when in the past everything has been great.
Downstairs area seemed gloomy. Menu is always the same. Service was only just adequate and I dont like cups without handles
The service was particularly poor. My friend and I arrived separately and both of us were told by the person who greeted us to 'go downstairs', rather than being shown or directed to a table. We waited more than 30 mins for someone to come and take our order, and that was purely because we managed to get someone's attention. The food itself was ok, what was expected, however, when it came to time to pay the man who took the payment added on an unauthorised £12 tip (on a £43 bill which was split between 2) and also took my payment via contactless without my permission. Only upon the checking of our receipts a few days later did we realise. Outrageous behaviour and disgraceful service. I shall vote with my feet next time and go elsewhere to eat!
Food was very good, but ended up having to be rushed as service was extremely slow and staff not particularly attentive.
Great food, great service.
Male toilet was not in a good state (partly out of order, as can happen, water on the floor not mopped up) and one of the two doors between the toilets and the dining area was propped open.
The new booths are a nice touch but we found that one side was the perfect distance from seat to table but the other side was too far away! We had to change around where we were sitting so everyone could eat comfortably.
Service was non existent. We had to ambush a waiter to order. Gave up on trying to order desert. Had to ambush waiter to get bill, then had to take it to the till. Appears to be no organisation of staff.
I love the fact there are so many vegan options - it makes LPQ a good choice for a catch-up with friends
An enjoyable friendly place for a good meal. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Convenient place to meet near Waterloo, good food and house wine, friendly and efficient staff.
We discovered this restraunt some years ago and always eat here when in a London. Good healthy food from fresh ingredients. Exceptional service and handy for the Globe, the National , London eye and more. Favourite place and now one my daughter in law will bring friends too as well.
We eat here regularly. It is convenient for Festival Hall and the National Theatre. We can always get a table. The food is adequate, soups and pies particularly good. Service is always friendly and efficient.
Great vegan options - thank you LPQ! Also, great service and a good atmosphere.
Lovely fresh simple breakfast. The table had been pre booked, but due to additional last minute guests we decided to sit outside to accommodate the larger group. Not a lot of splash for pushchairs but we managed.
All good, friendly staff, good service and nice menu
Great and kind staff who put up with my multiple table changes as the weather closed in. The Tumeric Latte was delicious.
Very useful location for business brunch, lunch meetings.
Appalling service, average food which we had to wait for over an hour. We discovered that they had forgotten to let the kitchen know half the order so I had to wait for an hour while my friend ate her brunch. Will not be returning.
Great food and service. We had a lovely lazy brunch.
We had a meal there before a concert at the Festival Hall. Very tasty food. we had a shared platter of charcuterie, followed by delicious cakes and coffee.
The restaurant is in a handy spot on the Southbank and good for a more casual evening or lunch. I'm very impressed by the number of vegan options on the menu and so will definitely be back!
We were all super happy with our food and the excellent service! I took my 4 yr.old and 11 month old and had no problem finding something for them both to eat. I had the avocado feta tartine and it was delishious. Our server was lovely and he took great care of us. We received our food quickly. We all left with our bellies full and a smile on our face.
Great food and atmosphere but oh those hard seats! We moved elsewhere for dessert and coffee. Why not provide cushions?????
The doors don’t close properly so it was cold. They had no record of my booking ...service was polite and friendly. I thought it was expensive for what we had. Always enjoyed it before ...probably won’t go back
We were going to a concert next door, so the occasion was a bit stressful as the service, though friendly, was disorganised & v slow. We hadn’t much time left to sit & enjoy the good food in the pleasant downstairs space. We entertained ourselves wondering just how close above us the passing trains actually were. Sounded like about 10cm...!
A really lovely chain restaurant. Great menu. A really enjoyable evening. Easy to book a table. The soup of the day is always very good.
