The chicken fantastic.
The French onion soup very rich n hot.
The halibut very small portion especially for $$.
Beet salad very good.
Cocktails provided were tasteless; not a true “bar”; wine and beer and drinks made with wine/vermouth/bitters...a disappointment and not advertised.
Service was terrible. Food was delivered a good 75 mins after seated. Received apology. Then received another apology and offer for free addl drink although I didn’t like my drink anyway! So why did guest get a free cocktail but I didn’t get my drink credited?! And why weren’t we accommodated for such a long wait?! Many guests came and went after us?!
Although I know a couple people who work there I’m very disappointed and not sure if I will return although I come to nyc about once a month.
The food was delicious. Our group had the duck and the creole roast chicken. We ate every bite!
The wine list is superb, the appetizers appetizing, however the issues begin with the entrees. I ordered the monk fish and was warned that due to portion size I should order a side. I chose the haricots vert. Yes, the monk fish entree was an appetizer portion and mixed in with the haricots vert were merely mortal string beans. I did finish my one piece of bread, which while delicious, was not sufficient. In short, I felt as if the establishment is on a rather tight budget as opposed to satisfying their patrons hunger.
A great addition to the UWS great food and they have corkage.
Entrees were excellent, skate and chicken. Fried oysters were very good as were schmaltz potatoes. Béchamel sauce overwhelmed mussels. Nice selection of mushrooms but too salty. Service was quite good. Very nice wine selection. But dessert was the problem! Only three choices to start with. One was not available and they ran out of the mousse. That left only the bread pudding. They did not have ordinary( e.g.English breakfast) tea.
3rd time there and my least favorite. The chicken is still great but the sides were too heavily spiced and they all tasted similar. The waiter was terrible this time, seemed like he came straight from Shake Shack. Very disappointed.
Great food! Quality service!
Went to Le Petit Rooster for the first time for lunch this past Thursday. Le Petit Rooster opened up just a couple of months ago. A very pleasant place. I was greeted warmly and the menu and the food were authentically French, very well presented, and quite good. It's a new restaurant and the staff seemed a little disorganized, but let's mark that down to the learning curve for a place just starting out.
So happy to have such a great new restaurant in the neighborhood. The food was amazing. From the raclette croquettes, to the full roasted chicken to the parisienne gnocchi, everything was delicious. And the restaurant itself was beautiful. I would go back in a heartbeat!
Lovely setting and decor. Friendly staff. Lunch was very good.
Wine prices are high.
Best on uws
Why is it such a secret
We tried today the brunch menu.
It reached our expectation! as great as the evening menu.
i will definitely go back for brunch
Bartender took care of us. Just perfect service. Attentive, genuinely good!
The food was lovely and the wonderful staff made great recommendations. Would definitely recommend.
The place isn't stylish or exactly welcoming but the whole chicken is really quite good: it serves far more than two and provided the basis for an excellent second meal at home. Not a lot of other options on the menu, however.
My first experience was so good, but this visit was really bad. Server was inexperienced to discuss wines, Kitchen was an hour backed up and the staff didn’t check in with us, then they brought extra sides no one wanted which they comped with our drinks OH and the A/C wasn’t working. It was a warm August night.
Excellent food. I will definitely come back.
First time at the restaurant. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and everything we ordered was quite good and well prepared. Would definitely return.
A STUNNING culinary experience. I’m not even joking, this guy has serious talent! Poached leeks in chorizo spices with red onion reduction and egg yoke jelly/melon, strawberry, and citrus soup for appetizers. Then Monk Fish with lentils and duck with blackberry reduction, crispy onions and birds nest carrots. It was all really surprisingly world class food. A taste explosion! No liquor license yet, so only beer and wine and wine cocktails but it’s coming!
The kitchen consistently turns our excellent food and the wine list is well chosen and fairly priced, but for me to go back again they need to get their act together on the floor. And the music is all wrong for the location, atmosphere and age of the clientele. They’re so close to being one of the top food destinations on the upper west side and notable in Manhattan but the management and service out front are blowing it. I want to see them succeed. there are so few restaurants with excellent food on the UWS. The chef is doing his job consistently and is to be commended! Please pull the dining room and service together!!
Although the name would suggest that they are mostly focused on fowl, which we had on a previous visit and enjoyed a lot, the fish and pastas are also excellent. We really liked the shrimp, and the halibut. Appetizers are also good. The wine list is a bit thin but good selections are available.
We were excited to try the restaurant, and we are so glad we did, very nice vibe comfortable setting, and knowledgeable staff.
Food was delicious...I had the beet salad, Husband had Foie gras, we both went for the roasted chicken..and shared the bread pudding..it was a wonderful experience..we will be back!!
Brined chicken was plenty for two. Juicy and crispy skin cooked to perfection. The au jus was a real treat to dip into for even more flavor. Asparagus side had a nice bite and expertly cooked. Potatoes were the only blah brought to the table. Not roasted properly and were oily. Service was fantastic. Waiter was prompt, courteous and made us feel welcome. The setting and decor are lovely. Will definitely return and dig deeper into the menu. Portions are plentiful.
Some wine list wines were unavailable and undistinguished frites with the steak. On the plus plus side, excellent bartender, amazing skate, terrific steak, excellent service, and the chicken liver mousse starter was excellent, too.
The food and service should have been much better given the price. We can get mediocre food anywhere. We live in the neighborhood and were hoping we would really like it. Sadly we won't be going back..too bad.
Fabulous chicken!!! Great restaurant- loved the ambiance, the service and the food! Can’t wait to go back.
Le Petit Rooster is a welcome addition to the Upper West Side dining scene. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and the food was well-prepared and delicious.
Excellent food polite staff . Would be perfect if had full bar
Le Petit Rooster is off to a great start. I began with an appetizer of Duck Rillettes and an entrees of Monkish, all very well prepared in European portions. My dinner partner was just as pleased with the Frisee Salad and Scallops. The people seating next to us order the Rotisserie for Two consisting of Poulet Roti with a lemon and white wine brine, all in American sized portion. The aroma made me want to come back next weekend. One of the best parts of the dinner was our very attentive and knowledgable waiter, Nick, who met our every request, including ensuring that my friend's gluten allergy was taken into consideration.
Great food great service and great ambiance, decor
Nothing else to add ! Will go back .
A/C was broken.
Steak was cold
Chicken was great
We are praying for this one but they need to get their act together.
Will try again
They've only been open for a short time so I'm giving them appropriate leeway. Food was delicious; ambiance quite pleasant; service somewhat over eager and prices very overeager. All in all, a good experience and I would recommend. Their signature rotisserie chicken is delicious and enough for three or a nicely packed doggie bag. Mille fueille for dessert was superb. Hope they work out the kinks. We need them in the 'hood.
Excellent in all ways, lovely people and terrific food
Wonderful spot to celebrate my husband's birthday with a unique menu- he loves monkfish and it can be hard to find so he was very pleased with the dish. Decor is fantastic and ambience was very relaxing - they certainly were not rushing us out. Only downside was it was a little bit warm- there was a rotating AC near our table but it was unclear if there was any central air. The restaurant was pretty full for a Monday night and we're looking forward to coming back to try their famous chicken.
We visited on a Monday one week and loved the experience; we came back a week later with my parents and they recognized my husband by name and greeted us. They are extremely attentive and very friendly during service. They didn't rush us out of there, which was so nice -- we were able to have a nice, celebratory dinner. The food is fantastic, they menu changed within the week were gone and it was a great selection both nights. What a gem for the UWS, my husband and I love french food, so we are looking forward to coming back many times.
I've been a couple times for dinner (definitely bring a friend and tag team their whole rotisserie chicken for two), but they just opened for brunch on Sundays, so I had to try it. They put Duck Confit in a Quiche! They have a breakfast Souffle! Whiskey French Toast! Brunch fare in the neighborhood is pretty standard, but this is fancier than your average brunch. I've never had eggs make me feel so chic.
Bonus: The low ABV cocktail program makes for excellent day drinking, for those who get bored with mimosas. Can't wait to go back!
We were looking forward to a new great neighborhood restaurant but left sort of disappointed. The decor and ambiance is very nice, but the back of the restaurant was uncomfortably hot with barely any AC. All of the food tasted great- but we weren’t blown away by anything. The price point is far too high for the portion size, and it took nearly an hour from when we ordered to get our entrees to the table. The staff was very nice, and hopefully they will work out the kinks of running a new restaurant soon!
Our dining experience was very disappointing especially in light in of the restaurant’s good reviews.
Perhaps part of the problem was our dislike of their “fresh take” on French cuisine. The onion soup relied on sherry vinegar as a major ingredient, and the steak tartare excluded anchovies, capers and Worcestershire sauce in favor of a sweet concoction. But forgetting to prepare one of our four entrees; serving rare duck in large chunks, overcooked to medium and cold, and serving soggy frites (even after being fried twice) is not a matter of taste.
Everything was great for the most part. The food was delicious (incredible duck) and well priced. The service was a little bit spotty, but kind, and typical of a new restaurant. My only real issue is that their telephone does not get answered - no voicemail, no greeting, nothing. It just rings and rings and rings. I needed to change the size of my party and ended up having to go to the restaurant to tell someone. I hope they are successful as a new UWS bistro is always welcome.
Perhaps it's just that this new place is just getting its act together -- but it hasn't gotten it together yet. Situated in the barely redecorated former site of Gastronomie on UWS Columbus Avenue, Le Petit Rooster has a short, pricey menu ($42 for duck) in what looks like a not so pricey space. Our waiter was friendly but hapless. He clearly did not speak a word of French (which is okay), had to check his notes to deliver the specials, and was hard to find when we needed him. The wine selection is decent, the menu emphasizes roast chicken. Our salad appetizers were okay, but our entrees... never arrived. We left after a close to an hour and a half.
With the passing of Ouest some years back, the UWS could use a place like this if it worked, but at these prices and with this service it's going to have a tough time. Cafe Luxembourg, well established not far away, serves better food more efficiently at lower prices.
For 48 dollars a chicken the restaurant should supply a side dish. Bread was served cold. The mashed potatoes were very starchy and could not be eaten. I spoke to the server who nodded but did not take the the charge off the bill drinks are too pricey at the bar. In fairness it is a new restauramt that has to work out the kinks. You need to give your patrons better value in order
To be successful.
