Le Relais de Venise - Soho (London)
A small selection of hand-picked wines accompany the meal and there is a selection of cheeses and a dessert list with profiteroles, meringue and other ice cream confections, all freshly made on the premises.

Sunday:12:30 – 15:30 and 18:00 –22:00
Phenomenal. Simple, high quality
Good fare. Simple no choice menu with superb steak frites. Quick but not rushed. Upmarket fast food I guess. Not my first visit and won't be my last.
This is an ok place for steak and chips but nothing special. The steak and sauce is good, the chips are out of a catering packet, salad is basic and without any thought or imagination. Service is fine but unmemorable. I won’t rush back but it’s not terrible.
I sometimes forget this gem is on my doorstop. The beauty lies in the simplicity... Steak and Fries done really well. Will be back again and again.
I have been to The Paris branch and had the best experience. Sad to say this was nowhere near that standard. Whilst the food was just great, the service and atmosphere was awful. We had to pass our plates to and from the waitress, she also leaned over us to serve the two guests with us instead of going round their side of the table. They also looked as miserable as sin. I will not be going back to the restaurant in a hurry
Really nice staff, good food, great moment!!
Heard a lot about this place. Have to admit it wasn't THAT great, but it's a nice concept, the food is good and the service is friendly. They do want you out pretty quickly I think, because we got our second serving thrown on top of the first when we were barely halfway through our food... maybe wait until the plate is empty? Also slightly overpriced for the small amount of steak you actually get.
The fries and sauce was very nice and I think it would be good with groups because it's easy to order and fast.
Superb steak and chips with no fuss. Salad starter is great too.. 😀
Great and fast service before theatre show. 2nd serving free of charge.
Love this place, it's so French and 80's but perfectly so, you only have 2 choices, how you want your meat
(Very) RARE, or Medium(Medium rare) and what to have for dessert. Delicious with a bottle of the house Bordeaux
Great food, simple menu, lovely atmosphere. What more could you ask for?
All round excellent
Unlike the original Relais de Venise in Paris you can book a table at this one in Soho...….but it was not full and there was no queue, again unlike Paris. Food is identical as Paris but wine list is different.
I'm a bit disappointed as I tried the original one in France and it is not the same experience.
It's almost twice the price (fine... London is expensive...), there is no unlimited refill for French fries (or the waiters are not really explicit about it), and the bread is clearly not up to French standards (standard industrial bread).
Overall it's still nice to eat that meat with the sauce, but I wouldn't go back regularly.
None of the categories listed fits the bill; these restaurants are unique. You know exactly what you are going to eat, you know it will be excellent, so the only decision is how you want your meat cooked. Food envy, as you glance across the table, is an impossibility. As a result is is one of the most stress free meals you could possibly enjoy anywhere.
Small negative; for the first time every, although we had booked, our presence at the entrance was not acknowledged for far too long a time. Unusual, but ‘could do better’ comes to mind.
We have been customers of Le Relais for over a decade since we lived in NY years ago. It is always very good to excellent! This time, the disappointment was that the fries were slightly cold and did not feel very fresh. They are a big part of the menu! Any, we'll be back! Hopefully next time will be perfect.
I am happy over my favorit restaurant from Paris is here and the meny is as god as in Paris.
Its a plus you can reservere a table so you dont have to waite outside.
Felt quite rushed and didn't experience the same level of service that I have done in the past. The food was great, salad seemed a bit sad but tasted good.
The concept is brilliant - serving your perfectly cooked steak and keeping half warm until you’re ready. The food is wonderful, simple but very good; the cheeseboard is excellent. Staff were rushed because it was so busy, however, got everything right. Overall, brilliant and would recommend but not for a slow, lazy meal.
Food was delicious, service was a little slow initially and quick to pass on the dessert menu rather than offer more steak.
Otherwise nice dinner.
Superb. Lucky to get a table at this seminal spot. Never disappointed. Ten stars. Yum
Always a good service, staff very polite and happy, great food and value for money!
Two staff members ignored us at the door, given a table squeezed in between two noisy tables, our bottle of wine was spilt by the boisterous (I.e drunk) table next door - it went all over my food and all over the table. The waitress did not offer to top up the wine, nor replace my wine soaked food. Food was ok but overpriced - £92 for two (salad, steak frites and dessert plus wine)
This restaurant was recommended and did not disappoint. The steak and frites were so tasty. Just superb. Great portion sizes and good choice of wines to compliment the fresh steak. Good dessert menu also. Lovely ambiance and I particularly liked the extra large vase of fresh lilies. I want to go back!
In terms of value this is very good. But off the back of that, you get what you paid for. Definitely not the best steak in the world, but it's cooked well and tastes good. I like that you don't have to make any menu decisions apart from wine and dessert (btw the profiteroles are AMAZING)
We went for a friend's birthday. The waitress barked at us the way the restaurant worked. We ordered two glasses of Champagne and said how we wanted our steak cooked. Then the green salad starter arrived, then the Champagne, then the red wine for our steak. The waitress then barked at us to move our green salad as the steak had arrived, we hadn't even finished it! Then she tried to take it away.
We had a steak medium, which was quite well cooked by the time we got the second serving.
The food is absolutely delicious, the salad dressing amazing, the meat beautifully tender, the chips perfect. But do not go for a relaxed evening. You are literally thrown your food. And we were petrified to ask our waitress anything. Go for a delicious, quick bite to eat when you're on your way somewhere. It's a shame it's this way as it was truly delicious.
The steak and chips are honestly some of the best I’ve ever had and the walnut salad was good too!
They lose a bit of points for service as they were quite slow to serve new guests even with many tables open, and once we were served needed quite a few reminders for which wine we ordered.
Overall though this did not distract from what a fantastic meal and well priced for London standards, definitely recommend trying out.
Always a pleasure to visit here. Food is top notch.
Took the trouble to book in advance, arrived at the restaurant on time , 18:00, but was seated on a table that seemed to be in the walkway outside the kitchen and main dinning room. Even though other tables could have been made available. This meant having staff walking past and banging into us during our stay. The customer service was poor throughout. I have been to the branch in Marylebone on many occasions, also to ones in Paris at, St Germain and Montparnasse. The Soho branch is not a patch on any of these. That said the food was fine.
As always good steaks, best fries in London
& great desserts. What more can you ask for ? Well worth trying & you won’t be disappointed.
Salad, steak and chips were all lovely. Cheeseboard was was a bit in the small side!
Great service though.
Service was really bad. I recommend others dine at the other branches as the food was lovely.
Great final dinner in London. We had been looking forward to our reservations for months and it did not disappoint!
Did not disappoint. The second serve of the steak was much appreciated.
I have been to the Relais de Venise in the City on a number of occasions and while the food in the Soho branch was consistent, the space and the service in did not compare at all. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet for 9pm on a Saturday night, yet we were rushed through our meal as if there were a queue of people waiting. We'd barely started our starters when the steaks appeared and I'd barely touched mine before the second half arrived. The restaurant itself was completely soulless and the staff generally did not care about customer experience. Won't go back again.
I love Le Relais. It's no-nonsense atmosphere, one-item menu and tasty secret sauce. They say 'the best steak-frites in town'; I'd agree.
Great food. Love the fries and profiteroles.
The servers could smile more.
Will come back soon...
Attentive friendly informative service and simple but delicious food
The beef tasted really good and was cooked perfectly. The sauce was also good. I just think you can come here for the experience but it is expensive for that it is and for what you get food wise. The steak is pre-cut and it is served on small plates.
As always they were very hospitable and the food was simple but great.
