Steak Tartare Beef Tartare
Excellent food, well priced. The wine list is fabulous and with pretty low markups.
It was our first and last time at this restaurant. Despite reserving ahead of time, they insisted on giving us a table in an annex next to the kitchen where there was no one else sitting. It was freezing cold. When my 80 year father asked them to move us to another table, the manager looked at him jokingly and said if you are cold have some wine. Half of the resto was empty and they did not agree to move us. What was more frustrating was when a group of people came without a reservation and they gave them a table in the actual restaurant. The cheese fondue was ok but I had better in London. We will never return there nor recommend the restaurant to others. Our mistake was that we did not get up and leave when they insisted on not giving us a decent table.
Great business lunch, theist steak tar tar I have eaten.
Staff were very friendly
Just love Le Vieux Comptoir - every dish is delicious - wines reasonably priced and superbly chosen. Service top notch - what’s not to love
Charming, efficient service, excellent wine and delicious food.
Rather disappointed. We chose the Parisienne salad as our main course. It should have consisted of chicory, blue cheese, pear and walnuts. However, it was predominantly chicory with hardly any cheese, pear or nuts. We did mention it but no satisfactory response.
Hands down, the best restaurant I've been in London.
As always a relaxed environment, excellent food and first class wine. First place on the list whenever we visit London
Best French restaurant in London, super quality food
Lovely tradition French style lunch
Sat at a table next to the bar which was crowded with non-diners, so not great a great start. Waited over 15 minutes for anyone to take a drinks order. In the end we had to go to the bar and ask. Been here before and it was great. Not sure what went wrong this time.
Great service and food in a wonderful ambience, which makes me think that I'm in the Dordogne
Great basic French food, good wine list.
The Raclette all you can eat is a must!
Simply very good,short decent menu,brilliant value,good wine,lovely service.
The food was good and the wine excellent. But the experience was completed overshadowed by unbelievably long waits for the food. The server and the manager (owner?) were only interested in pouring the wine as quickly as possible so that we would order another bottle. Each table was like an empty little Siberia as diners waited. We asked for bread and the server responded “well, if you want.” Our main was boeuf bourguignon — need it take 30 minutes to put that onto a plate? Never a word or explanation or apology about the wait but the staff was suddenly efficient at whisking the plates away (one of us was not finished) when it neared closing time and they wanted us to order pudding and go. Not a pleasant experience or one we will repeat.
Nice food but the menu was too limited.
Cheese board was excellent.
We booked a table for 4 at 8:45pm. In 45 minutes we had our starters, main courses and desert. They just wanted to close the restaurant as fast as they could. We didn’t had the time to enjoy the food.
Our starters : fois gras was good, our 3 oinions soup were tasting like water ( they probably had only 1 oinion soup left and added water to the mixture to make it 3 portions).
Mains courses : Our medium rare onglet was just cooked rare.
The charcuterie platter didn’t have any butter with it.
But our big disappointment was the cheese fondue, we ordered 2 and thought it was a portion for 1 so we asked the waitress who answered no it’s for 2 but you will see you will not finish it. Of course we did finish it as the quantity were ridiculous.
We just finished our food and desert was already on the table. We had no break whatsoever between starters, main courses, desert and bill.
We left almost as fast as we arrived and still hungry.
I don’t recommend this place neither for the food or the service. Does not reflect a proper french restaurant vibe, food, quantity and service.
A visit to Le Vieux Comptoir is always a joy. It feels like a secret enclave. With fantastic wines, lovely authentically French dishes, a relaxed, quiet ambience and great service, it’s a wonderful experience.
Excellent venue, great ambience and service. A somewhat hidden gem.
Amazing food and outstanding service!
We had basically the fondue as that’s what we’re craving for and reason for the booking. And having had fondue in several places in London for so many years I can say that the one there was probably the best one. A must try for sure and soon we’ll be back for the raclette, another favourite of mine.
Great find - it like being back in the French Alps - great value and choice of wines…
Always a treat. Great food. Great wine. Lovely atmosphere
This spot is a Hidden Gem! The wine, The Food the Ambience .. everything was just perfect... To Laurent, You are an amazing Host. See you next time.
Very poor service, I'd a date and we were given the most loud corner in the restaurant in spite of having mentioned that I wanted a candle lit side table and if its not available I won't be going ahead for booking. The music request which was made pre-booking was also not fulfilled.
Though I'd a a good date all thanks to the girl I met, but the money we spent and the expectations I'd was completely different.
Rustic charming restaurant, limited menu but great food.
too expensive for a place where they don't change forks between courses.
As on my previous visits the food is outstandingly delicious the service friendly and attentive mixes with great humour and a wine list which surprises in quality and value. Lovely
Great food and waiters who obviously have much experience with food and wine and can recommend great pairings. Overall lovely experience
Wonderful atmosphere; a real home from home. Professional, attentive service and exquisite food and wine.
A gem off the beaten path. Highly recommend if you want delicious authentic french cuisine and a very well priced wine list
This was a lovely casual and relaxed dinner in a beautiful setting. We enjoyed the fondue and raclette...look forward to going back again soon.
Great authentic French food, friendly and professional service, excellent high end wines at reasonable prices, all in an authentic French ambience which makes me think that I'm in the Dordogne. we eat there at least once every month, and often more frequently.
Creme brûlée is a must try, although the service is not that good. Overall, worth the try.
Food was average, taste was there but too dry. Lack of taste for the price.
Lovely food and really attentive service!
Lovely little place tucked away in a quiet corner. Very french feel to it. It was a bit lacking in atmosphere as there were so few other diners there. But it has a lovely feel to it. Service was friendly and attentive. Thé foie gras starter was a little disappointing as quite bland but I enjoyed my lyonnaise salad and profiteroles. One thing I would certainly suggest, however, is that you use real cream with these and not out of a can cream. Otherwise a lovely find and we will be back.
Great food and wine, friendly and professional staff and a great ambience - I feel like I am in the Dordogne
It was a birthday dinner and they did not offer dessert nor a candle and happy birthday song
Love this restaurant a real little gem …..
Looking forward to our next visit x x
