Legal Sea Foods - 7th Street
Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. A bipartisan favorite, we have occupied the nation’s capital since 1995, anchored across from the Verizon Center and around the corner from the International Spy Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Chinatown.
Make waves at our racetrack-shaped bar or sup on seafood underneath the hull-like ceiling in our restaurant’s main dining room. Either way, be presidential and order a cup of our New England Clam Chowder; it’s been served at every Inauguration since 1981. Other accolades include being named “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” in a nationwide poll by USA Today (2013).
Hostess’s were less than friendly and welcoming. Disappointing.
Ambience was mixed.....felt dirty.
Food was very good but overall very disappointing.
Always a wonderful customer experience! We regularly dine here because of the menu selections are very good and the wait staff are courteous and efficient, especially Pham. This location will continue to be a regular stop for us!
Fried oysters and the Louisiana Matrimony were great! Accommodating and friendly staff.
Delicious Maryland Cream of Crab soup!
I had lunch with a colleague. The food was very good.
I enjoyed great service and a medley of flavorful food. This was my first time to dine here. I recommend it!
Amazing GLUTEN FREE options!!! They even brought out gluten free buns!
Meh. Just Meh.
Service was slow, even though it wasn’t crowded or busy at all. Food was average at best
The dish I ordered was not cooked correctly. By the time I got my plate my wife had already finished hers. Not what we were expecting for our anniversary dinner. Waitress was very good and apologetic. Manager was not so understanding. Hostess was also very nice.
Legal is usually reliable, but they had a bad night. Time between ordering drinks and first course arriving (there was plenty of time to decide on dinner before a server came) was long. Bread was bad —one roll was stale and the other was actually wet on the bottom. They didn’t have the glasses of rose we ordered, but it took a long time to be told that. Fish was undercooked and had to be sent back. Server was very nice, but restaurant was clearly understaffed. Tons of people standing around to be seated isn’t good for ambiance. While we didn’t ask for any consideration, manager or server didn’t offer anything. Overall, a really disappointing experience with Legal!
Legal Sea Foods has an amazing gluten free menu. It's always delicious and safe for me to eat. This time, I brought a friend who also has to eat gluten free. It was her first time having fried calamari in years and she absolutely loved it!
Love Legal Seafoods! Our meals were wonderful! I look forward to dining there again next year!
Server was very good. Thanks
Omg this place was amazing. Our waiter MAYO did an outstanding job. The food was soooo good i truly enjoyed my birthday here. We had the snapper and crab legs omg sooooo good :)
Amazing seafood. Menu is well marked for gluten free items. Plenty of gluten free choices, including buffalo popcorn shrimp! They even had gluten free rolls. Great service. Very memorable meal.
Outstanding, very fresh seafood very well prepared. Wonderful veggie sides. Would return in a heartbeat!
Had a great dinner at Legal on a moderately busy Friday evening. Our reservation was honored promptly, and we were seated at a comfortable table. Service was excellent, well-timed and knowledgeable. Food was outstanding! As always, the chowder was amazing, rich and complex. My companion praised the crab cake and seafood combo, and my own seafood casserole was tasty and ample. Recommend highly!
Average seafood place. Used to have a better feel & ambiance, but now it is nothing special. The food was OK. HATE the unisex bathrooms. Would recommend for lunch, not nice dinner out place.
Excellent service. Food was fresh and cooked to perfection. One of my favorite places.
The food and service was excellent as usual. Appetizers and Entrees were prepared in a timely manner with superb appearance and taste. My family and I truly enjoy dining at Legal Seafood.
I had mixed reviews during my most recent experience at Legal Seafood. I must commend the hostess. I was 30 min late for my reservation and she still found me a table in less than 10 min. It was down hill from there with the service. Our waiter Steve had no energy when it came to our table. He did not go over the specials of the day mor did he make any suggestions as my wife and I noticed from other waiters. He forgot to give us straws to drink our water. We had to remind him of that simple pleasure. My order was not right when delivered. He did not come over to check to see if I received the correct food.
great food--restaurant needs updating for more privacy
The service was poor--informed the management team. The food was not tasty or filling. Will not recommend or return.
Superb food, the stuffed lobster was the best seafood I have ever had along with the crab cakes and drinks. The Waitress had an outstanding personality. Would definitely recommend.
Atmosphere was wonderful. College graduates enjoyed a dinner with family. So this is a place for family celebrations or just hang out and eat some fantabulous seafood.I dropped in for the first time and enjoyed food and excellent customer service. Thanks Legal Seafood! I’ll be back!!
It was an amazing meal. The crab legs were fresh and tasted amazing. It was a perfect date night.
I love ciopinno seafood stew. It’s full of flavor and so much seafood. The service was okay. The server seem to be overwhelmed with too many tables. It took awhile for her to get to us since we were a large party. She took the orders of all the other tables before us even though we would sat first. Overall it was a good lunch but probably won’t be back to this location due to the service taking so long.
Legal Seafood is a fine restaurant, but really nothing special. Perhaps my view was colored by my favorable experiences at Legal Seafood in Boston, but the DC location is very average and given the prices there are lots better options available. Service was slow even though the restaurant was not busy. I had the Louisiana style catfish; it is hard to make this bland, but they were able to do it. The crab cakes were fine but again nothing special to justify the price. The upside was a good and reasonably priced wine list by the bottle.
I ordered GF (it is preference not an allergy) The GF rolls were just ok. l ordered poached salmon and scrimp with rice noodles and bok Choi. I think the Chef either didn't know what or how to cook GF, but he left out the scrimp, and over cooked the Bok Choi. I had, two nights previous, eaten at Crystal City Legal Seafood, and the same dish was delicious! I presume the difference is Staff.
I took my father here for Father’s Day. The food, drinks, and service were great. Make sure you allow time for parking!
Excellent food and stellar service. Moderate prices. Varied menu selections. They worked around my food allergies and served up a wonderfully tasty meal. Our server was courteous, knowledge, and extremely proficient. Recommended highly.
Absolutely loved the service, food, and gluten free options! Thinking about going again tonight!
EXCELLENT FOOD & SERVICE!! My husband and I went there 2 nights in a row.
Always good quality food.
Our dinner could not have been better. We were warmly greeted upon arrival, given a very nice table by the window, the food was exceptional, as was the service and value. This was our favorite dining experience in quite a long time.
The clams where wierd because I’m from Texas an I normally don’t eat raw clams but dear god the oysters where to die for.
The food was delicious! Every dish we had was good. The lump crab dip alone will keep you coming back. I had the crab cake combo and hubby had the catfish. Both dishes were delicious. This was our first time eating at Legal Sea Food, but it definitely won't be our last!
The food was good, but service was incredibly slow and the restaurant was filthy dirty.
