L'Escargot is now under the ownership of Brian Clivaz and Laurence Isaacson, who between them, have been involved in some of London’s most iconic restaurants and member's clubs. James Tyrrell is now the Head Chef and his dishes celebrate classic french cooking with a modern and healthy twist.
Snails unsurprisingly are the speciality of the house; the dining room pays homage to proper French bourgeois cooking and offers exceptional value. L’Escargot has been voted London’s best French restaurant and has an excellent wine list.

Classic French cooking in a classic yet stylish environment. Good front of house and an exceptional waiter (James) who carried us through the whole meal with a good sense of humour, professional service and good advice. The round tables at front and rear are lovely offering two people to sit side by side which seems more socialable and /or romantic.
Food is well cooked, well presented and sensibly priced. Wine list good and I like the season menu written up each day. Also, something nice about a doorman, although I sense this is as much to keep the Soho shenanigans at bay.
Excellent food and service as ever, one of my favorite spots in Central! Highly recommend
Fabulous! Great food and wine, good service and lovely sumptuous surroundings. We were there for lunch, a party of five and we all loved the place! Relaxed and easy going restaurant with a touch of grand chic! We will be back!
Anyone who doesn't come here is an idiot. Had our old IT Sales team here from 8 years ago on a reunion. 5 hour lunch and 2 of them rebooked pre xmas. Says it all.
This was our first time at L'Escargot, despite both being lovers of France and French food! I took my husband as a surprise for his birthday and we absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was great, the place is very welcoming and the staff were friendly. It was quiet when we first arrived but got busier later, with other birthday celebrations and business dinners. While it was more than we would spend on a normal meal out, it wasn't that expensive and they do have a set menu which is excellent value (although we didn't have the set menu). The food was delicious (we both had confit duck, followed by creme brûlée, which are our favourites whenever we're in France) and the portion sizes were decent. Would definitely recommend it and can't wait to go back.
Iconic restaurant that always delivers. Regular visitor to this restaurant for lunch and dinner for social and business purposes. The food is always exceptional, the service is first class, and the ambience is extremely pleasant. Couldn’t ask for more from a Soho restaurant.
On arrival immediately told they would need the table back by 9:15 ( this was for a 7:45 table booking) this was not mentioned when booking. As I was entertaining friends from abroad and we enjoy a long chat over dinner it immediately made everyone feel uncomfortable. The ambience is good but service hit and miss and having to repeatedly ask for certain items. Food not quite ‘fine dining’ and wine list short and disappointing. First and will be last visit unfortunately.
Had a fantastic evening for our works christmas dinner and as always had great food and service.
Perfect service, great for a romantic evening. Lovely setting.
Service was very very good and the food was good. The noise level was fairly loud but not sure what can be done about that. I suppose if you don’t like noise then don’t go to the restaurant.
Our meal at L'escargot was really lovely. We opted for the set menu deal which was very good value. My sea trout was a little over-cooked, but everything else was delicious and the service was very friendly. The bar upstairs didn't have any staff when we arrived which was a shame, but overall the evening was lovely and I'd definitely recommend.
Lovely restaurant with a beautiful ambience. The staff are friendly and look after you well. The food was delicious. I had a lovely evening meal.
Excellent experience at L'Escargot. I had the smoked salmon starter followed by the sea trout and both dishes were delicious. Good size portions. Also a great wine list!
Fantastic service, friendly staff and great food.
Excellant Sunday lunch and pre theatre dinners. The food is fantastic and the staff very friendly
Very disappointed. Read the excellent reviews but our opinion was different. We had pre ordered the Chateaubriand. We asked for medium and it came up as rare in middle. We expected it to be brought to the table and sliced in front of us. It seemed that it had not been freshly cooked and although the rare parts were tender the outside was not - it was chewy and dry. We have had chateaubriand in other restaurants and this was certainly not served in the correct manner. The frites were also not of a particularly good standard - again it seemed that they had been pre cooked and put into a fryer at the end - they were hard .
The 2 desserts we had were good. Also 14.5 % service charge was steep.
great food, service and prices-really is a great place
Everything about this restaurant is outstanding.
Have eaten here on many occasions and is always a delight.
I've walked past this restaurant many times and thought it looked a bit stuffy and old fashioned, but I am pleased to say I was wrong. The combination of ambiance, service and food made this a most memorable evening. The staff are engaging, without being obtrusive. The food is classic, but why do anything different when it is this good?
Worked as an excellent spot to go after getting engaged. The food was excellent (and surprisingly well priced) and the atmosphere felt like it could work well for any occasion that isn’t too raucous.
Wonderful décor complements a very sophisticated bistro-style menu. Food delicious and a good wine-list. Staff charming and service good.
Outstanding. The best lobster bisque of my life and an excellent wine list.
Excellent restaurant. Always a welcome at reception. The service is impeccable and the food and the drinks superb .
Nice restaurant, good food, a real gem ! Be careful high taxes at the end! 14,5%!
Good food and service. Nice atmosphere.
A classic restaurant which had an offer too good to pass. Chateaubriand, fries, salad and a glass of fizz each at £45 for two was a great bargain. Topped with some food gras terrine and a wonderful bottle of St Emillion. A great meal finished with a comforting and light pistachio soufflé.
The service was impeccable it also welcoming. A lovely venue in the heart of Soho delivering classic French food and ambiance. I definitely recommend a visit.
A classic venue that doesn’t disappoint. Great food, wine, service and atmosphere that’s not overly fussy.
Lovely food and service. We had the chateaubriand for 2 which was delicious. Waiters very helpful and attentive.
Lovely good value dinner - looked after extremely well
Delightful meal. The chateaubriand was perfectly cooked with a lovely selection of Laurent Perrier. The service couldn't be faulted.
excellent value for money, friendly and helpful staff
Wonderful food and impeccable service, consistently brilliant meal. Thank you!
Lovely food and service, only thing not perfect was the fries werent very nice
Retro but fun french spot in soho. Really fun and quite inexpensive for the quality.
Excellent lunch, as usual. The. Chateaubriand for 2 was well worth it, tasty and melting in the mouth.
Set menu was chosen which was a good value for money overall. We’ve been places at the back of the room which was empty unfortunately.
Confit duck was a bit dry but the food in general reflect the concept nicely . Dauphinois was great . Service on point, friendly and smiling staff.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal - first time I have eaten snails and won't be the last. Exceptional service from the young Italian waiter.
Food and service was very good
Lovely meal. Great value and wonderful ambience as always.
Nice food but very pricey ! Service charge was £50!
