Had the pre theatre menu which was excellent value. The service was very high standard and its a beautiful 100 year old space, full of charm and artistic history. Wines quite expensive but overall experience was great.

First time for us to the oldest French restaurant in London - it didn't disappoint at all. I thought it de rigour to have Les escargots which were served flambe -ed and rather delicious. Mr had the set lunch which was very good value. We would certainly return again.

It is always great eating at L'Escargot but my most recent mean on 9 September 2021 was particularly good. The two of us both had lobster bisque (outstanding), a minute steak (delicious) and crème brulée (excellent) with a very fine and reasonably priced claret and coffee.

Prices substantially increased since my last pre-covid visit. I did not appreciate the supplement on the service charge. Pre-covid it was 12.5% it is now 14.5%. Tax payers have been supporting restaurant staff during the pandemic to sit at home doing nothing and this is the reward, increased service charges.
My Sole Veronique had been virtually pyrolyzed either in an extremely hot oven or under a hot grill. The sauce which should have been creamy was set almost solid and the fish had dried out.
I noticed Grouse on the menu, but a charge of £42 (£48 after your service charge) is unacceptable. I bought 5 Grouse from my butcher a few days ago for £40, oven ready.
When I made the reservation I was advised of a smart casual dress code, to which I and my guest complied . We wore light summer suits, white shirts but no ties due to the heat and proper footwear. In our vicinity I counted 3 men with shorts on, 2 with running shoes and one with sandals and no socks. Another was wearing soiled denims. If you are going to have a dress code then in the interests of those who comply you should enforce it.
The only reason I didn't complain on the spot was that my colleague greatly dislikes conflict and prefers to vote with his feet.
Personally I won't be back, unless there are significant changes. The music was also so loud I was unable to hear my colleague across the table.

Been here many times over the years, one of my favourites. Great ambiance, excellent service and the food is good BUT its getting pricey for what it is.
Might go back but there's plenty of others out there.

Visited the restaurant our late friend’s favourite place in London to eat.
They pulled a scam by bringing the wrong wine which was £20 more in price. They poured it and took it away without us seeing it. Then they asked if we would like a second bottle which we said yes to not knowing we had not even finished the first. So until the bill arrived we had no idea we had been a much more expensive wine.
Also we were shocked that the service charge was in excess of 15%.
We would recommend the food but not the service. Very disappointed and unhappy as would our late friend have been.

I’ve dreamed about dining at L’Escargot. Finally, through the FT Weekend special menu, it was time to experience the mystique and reputation of “London’s oldest French restaurant”.
The special menu got its own card and the ambience of this restaurant is wonderful. Excellent first impressions.
Then gradually things descended into mediocrity:
*The lamb medallions were mixed up so the wrong person got the “medium well”. The lamb was beautiful but the sauce was overpowering - a bit like putting HP sauce on lamb!
*Food service was VERY slow, but we thought this was normal for a French restaurant.
*The wrong dessert menu was brought and eventually we were able to point out that the FT menu had just two options.
*After a long wait the Soufflés appeared but were delivered to the wrong table. After a minute, an Italian Waiter spotted the mistake and switched the 2nd-hand soufflés from the wrong guests to us.
*The soufflés were solid fare. More like scrambled eggs. Not a great “signature dish”.
*There was then another long wait. We were then asked if we wanted any more. We pointed out that the FT menu included “coffee and petit fours”. The waitress then disappeared.
*Then another waitress came to inform us “we will serve you coffee BUT we must have the table back quickly”.
What an insult!
* We were never told there was a time limit on the table.
* The food service was very slow. Three courses plus coffee took more than two and a half hours.
*To then be told that they were doing us a favour serving coffee but we had to hurry is appalling. Inexcusable in any restaurant. The waitress who said this has no place in a “fine dining restaurant”.
*When the bill came it had the coffee and petit fours as extras (they should have been part of the £95 set menu) along with 14.5% “discretionary service charge”.
*Did we complain? Yes we did! But the manager just didn’t understand. Offering a discount is just a cheap excuse. *Great businesses strive to get you to return.
*AVOID
