Great menu and service - a lunchtime not too forget. Will be back soon.
The team were extremely accommodating to us, and did an amazing job through the meal. Thank you
The awful piano music overshadowed everything else; think piano medley of Madonna songs at full volume with foot glued to the pedal. The dining room was quite pretty, the service good, the food so-so. It’s probably nicer for lunch when soho isn’t so crowded.
Lovely date place
Eaten here a couple of times in the past couple of months, having been a regular before COVID.
To be frank, its not what it was, which had been great.
It's not bad, it's just that it is now a pale shadow of what it once was.
Currently it appears to be running on reputation.
Served a soufflé and had to wait over 5 minutes for a spoon- and had to remind them.
A lovely meal. Attentive staff, great art deco ambience and great food. Thanks
Delicious food, well presented. Cosy atmosphere. We liked it a lot.
Friendly, professional staff, the set menu was excellent value, and the décor was charming. We were so impressed that we are definitely going back.
Highest quality French cuisine backed up with superb service.
Used to dine here alongvwhile back decided to go for Husbands bday, on thecoff started well but tailed towards the end... food was excellent can not fault, but did find the staff flaffing alot with cleaning tables and getting ready for next sitting but once you're sat you tend to get forgotten about as their too busy flaffing about with empty tables, nearly every table including us had to ask to order or for drinks ect, didnt feel special , relaxed or feel like your having an experience in a well renowed restaurant, wasn't refined ..but food could not fault 10/10 for that, will i go back ? Mmmm not sure
Always a great experience at l’escargo. Very friendly waiters and food was perfect.
A really lovely meal. A last minute decision to grab a very late lunch, early supper when we realised hadn't eaten all day. So might as well have a very good meal. Which this was. My only criticism would be that we were never told there was a limit on how long we could have the table, and were rather unceremoniously turfed off our table for the next booking. We were hardly loitering, and, in fact, had only had one course, and probably would have liked to order some cheese or more wine. Did think that put a bit of a shadow on what otherwise was a very lovely last minute meal.
Friendly, polite, knowledgeable. Good food. Very clean. Generally a very enjoyable experience
Excellent restaurant! Strongly recommend visiting
Delicious French style food , service and ambience in one of the landmark restaurants in London. Really enjoyed the whole experience and it made a great place to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Would definitely recommend it.
Coffee and petit fours arrived before dessert. No explanation for this. No gluten free petit fours despite restaurant being made aware of dietary requirements in advance. Lunch time Laurent perrier menu.
Excellent food with good service, although there was slight confusion by some staff by what we were entitled to on the menu we had chosen. Dress code by most diners was not as smart casual as was requested on the web site, so a drop in standards.
We had two family birthdays combined and all got together online to choose a restaurant for dinner in London. L’Escargot won the vote. It is a very pretty place but is sadly ruined on a Saturday night by raucous parties in the private rooms upstairs which take the staff all their concentration to run. Our main course arrived 2 hours after we sat down and we had to reorganise the rest of our evening because of that. We were given a bottle of wine to compensate but I got the impression that they have to do that a lot.
Our waiter was very inexperienced and did not interact well. He was nice but got a lot of things wrong. We did not complain about him because we assumed he was new.
I did email the restaurant a week before the event to ask if they did anything for birthdays. I was told by the reception that they did plate writing and that was all. I told them the names of the two birthday guests. When we arrived I checked again and they apparently knew nothing of this arrangement so I requested the plate writing for two again, giving names.
Because of all the delays we were not going to order desserts but we persuaded two people to do so to enable the birthday greetings. Then all of a sudden the pianist bursts into a happy birthday song for another table! Who knew he took requests? My husband then went to have a word with the Maitre’D and we ended up with a song and one happy birthday plate between two ladies. Rather awkward and made me wish I had not bothered. Too embarrassing.
The food was nice but unremarkable really. Certainly did not live up to the reputation the restaurant holds. All in all disappointing.
Lovely food, great service, enjoyed the pianist too.
We went for the Sushi menu, which we were not expecting, but which was excellent.
The service was charming.
Set menu great value but not the choice we hoped for. It’s different to website. Lovely restaurant though
Great food and service. We will be back!
Excellent as usual. The food and service were first class
Great food and staff but service a shocking shambles this evening
L'Escargot is as I remember it, kind and friendly staff, Nonu was exceptional and his recommendation for dessert was very much appreciated by us all! The Grand Marnier Souffle was absolutely devine and would not have been my choice but was pleased that we listened to Nonu, thank you! The Ambience was perfect, the restaurant had tables filled but noise was muted, service was good. There are some new waiting staff who are being trained, so service a little slow at times, but everyone has to learn and this did not detract from the excellent food. The wine list is comprehensive with good choices of house wines. The cocktails were excellent too! We are looking forward to returning. Our friends who joined us had not visited before and were bowled over by the food saying it was the best they had enjoyed for a long long time. Thank you for making our evening exceptional, especially Nonu who was the stand out for service, including customer service. Jill & Warren
Snails in garlic excellent as ever. Choice of bread to go with Snails needs rethought. Chateaubriand good but some of the slices a touch dry. Soufflé very good
Excellent service, food first class, romantic and nostalgic ambiance
I have fond memories of L'Escargot from years back. I should have listened to the old adage "Never meet your heroes, you will be disappointed." We were!
We were shown to an upstairs room which, whilst I fully understand the restaurant is old, was tatty and the carpet smelt. The furnishings have certainly seen better days.
We were quickly served water as we sat but it took a full 30 minutes before any further attention was paid to us. The gathering frustration that was evident on my face spurred the waiter into action.
We were given menus, one of which offered Sashimi and Sushi. When we ordered from it we were told they had stopped serving everything on that menu. So, why give it to us?
We ordered starters which were OK then a main course with Tenderstem Broccoli as a side. We got served Green Beans, not what we ordered, no explanation given.
We ordered some cocktails. Pretty bog standard ones, a Margarita and a Cosmopolitan. To be fair, the Margarita was OK and the 6 crystals ..just 6 of salt round the edge really added something! However, I do not know what they thought they were serving, but the Cosmopolitan was not anything like you'd expect. It tasted like we were drinking juice from a Satsuma. Horrible. If you are going to make your own version of a Cosmopolitan say so before you serve and ask if we want it....we didn't!
Finally, the Coup de Grace, the bill with a hefty Service Charge. Not worth the money in our humble opinion.
Very disappointed and we will never be visiting again.
L’Escargot is my favourite haunt of mine in London. I took a friend for a Saturday lunch and we had a superb time. From the unashamedly delicious French food and wine to the ambiance, it’s always a pleasure to be back here. What makes L’Escargot so special is the hard working yet so friendly staff who will greet you with the widest of smiles and will take care of you !!
Everything was good except initially our chairs were far to low for the table, however they quickly moved us elsewhere
Do not come here if you don’t like table turning. Told we need after one hour and five minutes if we wanted a coffee we needed to drink it in the street.
Also when we arrived we were sat next to a very loud table. Asked to move which was no problem. Then told after our stater we needed to return to our original table.
This place has gone downhill over the last couple of years. They are totally obsessed with table turning and not making their customers feel valued and welcome.
Such a shame as the snails are still excellent
Great food and faultless service will be back again soon.
Fantastic food and service (wonderful Portuguese waiter) and great value for money in such an established restaurant. Perfect for pre-theatre meal. Highly recommend!
Used the FT Laurent Perrier promotion for lunch. Glass of pink (FT) champagne followed by salmon tartare, sole Veronique and then Grand Marnier soufflé, washed down with the house Sauvignon, coffee and framboise and poire Williams earned vies. Very well served, friendly and attentive and certainly a restaurant we would return to. Thank you FT.
Excellent service from very pleasant competent staff. Gave us a delightful 50th Wedding anniversary surprise
A wonderful evening. Food and wines were excellent; and very attentive staff.
Nice quality of food and environment
Nice welcome, ambience warm and convivial; lovely bread variety and very good to excellent food throughout.
Service attentive but not intrusive- a very enjoyable throughout
Fantastic service and food. Brilliant staff and a lovely atmosphere. The lobster bisque was delicious
