You can never go wrong with the vegetarian tasting menu. Incredibly creative. For example, pastrami carrots!
L'Etoile is an outstanding eatery. The service and the food are impeccable! Typically my wife and I enjoy the tasting menu. She chooses the wine pairing and enjoys it immensely; and I ask the bartender to surprise me with non alcoholic delights that pair with the particular dish and I have never been disappointed. Anniversary and special occassion or perhaps just a nice night out, L'Etoile always delivers.

The food was very creative and tasted wonderful; wine list spectacular. We opted for the wine tasting to go with our a la carte meal and discovered some new favorites. The only glitch was at the beginning of service; a slight lag in receiving our wine when the course was presented. This caused a little back-up of multiple wines on the table at once (and not enough food to match the paired wine), but they caught up by the end of the second course. A very minor glitch and we were given a few extras, which made up for it.

We have been to L’Etoile many times. The tasting menu was outstanding—each offering was well-prepared and presented as distinctive creations. The service was professional and gracious. Our only complaint was that the timing of the offerings left large chunks of time between some of the courses—sometimes up to 30 minutes or more. A more even flow of the offerings would have been better.
Great food and wine - expected of course for the prices. Service only tarnished by front desk. Both times we have eaten here we have arrived at the desk and after giving our name the lady has picked up the phone and talked to somebody wanting to book. We stood there like lemons both times and felt second rate to the person on the phone.
Great dinner, was nice to meet Chef Tory. Michael always does a great job with the wine as well.
The menu for Valentines Day was great! There was a lot of variety to choose from and we felt that, for what you received, the price if the prix fixe menu was excellent. It was a special way to celebrate.
Dined on 15 Feb. The Valentine's Day set menu was the only option @ $95.00 per person. We added the paired wine option @ $65.00 per person.
Matt, our primary server, was outstanding.
He brought out a palate cleanser and a glass of champagne to start us out. The champagne was very good.
My starter, salmon sashimi, was very good. Great flavors, textures, presentation. My partner's starter, beef tartar, was presented in a flat hamburger-patty style. It was good but not memorable.
My main was the duck breast with a very nice sauce and paired vegetable. My partner's main, the scallops were extremely over-spiced and ultimately not consumable. We informed Matt about the extreme spiciness and he was great at offering a starter to help recover her palate. He also shared that another diner had a similar reaction to the too-spicy scallops. He informed the chef to address the issue.
Our deserts were a yogurt pana cotta for my partner and a chocolate ganache. My ganache was outstanding and the pana cotta very good.
Our wine sommelier was outstanding. He gave great background on the wines he paired with our respective courses and was passionately delightful about his job.
The other wait staff who delivered our servings was also well choreographed and informative.
Overall, my food and wine experience was very good. Unfortunately, my partner's experience with the over-spiced scallops and the underwhelming starter was not good. The wine pairing was the best overall part of the dining experience, which is consistent with L'Etoile's rating for its wine selection. The overall experience was not consistent with the investment for the evening.
Having dined at Charlie Trotter's in Chicago 2 times, I was hoping for a similar amazing food and wine experience. L'Etoile is not at the level of Charlie Trotter's in its heyday. I hope they can improve their food to match their amazing wine pairings and service and aspire to the level of Charlie Trotter's.
The value of the food and drink was probably close to $75 at a similar restaurant and we paid $360 for two which was way more than it was worth. The service was decent, but the food was just average and we didn't receive even close to the value that we would expect for a dinner that expensive.

The Wisconsin Supper Club tasting menu was so amazingly executed by the team at L'Etoile. Everything tasted wonderful and was beautifully plated. The service was top tier, and it is well worth every penny spent to have a dining experience at L'Etoile.

Always recommend L’Etoile. We’ve loved it for 40 plus years. The homage to Wisconsin Supper Club fare was brilliant. Each bite delicious and loved the specialty cocktails to start. I could talk about every dish, something outstanding about each one. Wedge salad was truly amazing...I could go on and on.....
This was our first time at L'Etoile and it lived up to its reputation as a fine dining establishment. We had the tasting menu and each course was superb. We splurged with the reserve wine pairing and it was expertly curated with unique wines from Germany, France, and the US. Although everything was excellent, it still seems overpriced, but we didn't have to drive to Chicago for something comparable.

This was the 3rd tasting menu my friend and I have done with the reserved wine pairing. I don't how they do it but they always bring their "A" game and it's amazing. We had the best time, and the food and wine were incredible. We both look forward to coming back for the next tasting menu. Thank you all for a great night. We love the staff!!
Awful food. What a total rip-off. We have never been impressed with their ala carte menu, but we thought maybe the tasting menu would be great. We paid about $380 for a dinner for two that lacked coherence but filled with artifice: a starter of four different seafood served in gift and Lego boxes with scented dry ice vapors, whose highlight is a fresh poached ONE-inch long Alaskan king crab; a dull foie gras highlighted with flavored foam; a duo of raviolis - cheese and raw egg yolk, and sausage, in a sauce that I could have prepared myself; poached lobster in a broth that could have used more seafood stock, served in ceramic pots; beef Wellington that lacked flavor; and a dessert of dryish chocolate cremieux with a strange tasting angostura ice cream and somehow redeemed by jellied kumquats. We will never eat at this restaurant again. Drinks, maybe, only because we love the atmosphere at the bar. An experience like this makes me mad to the point of wishing people will stop patronizing this sad excuse for a “high-end” restaurant, unless they drastically improve their menu.
When you go to L'Etoile and have the tasting menu, you are not having a meal. You are having a 2+hour experience where people bring you delightful, exceptional food, again and again. Prepare to have your palate awakened, your mind engaged, your stomach sated, and your heart delighted.

One of the best dinning experiences we've ever had. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The food is exceptional - highly recommended for special occasions. Also the capitol view from the dinning area is absolutely stunning.

My first trip here was amazing.
The second was good, but not quite as amazing. The food was good, but not as excellent as I had recalled from my first trip. It also seemed like the service was especially slow my second time around. We were there from 7:30 to 10:00 and the amount of time between courses seemed really long. It was not a busy night at all either there was hardly anyone else there.
Went for our anniversary. Excellent experience. Best restaurant experience I have had anywhere in North America equal to a holiday meal at a major known New York mid-town restaurant we had 5-years ago.
Not an every week experience but fair value. We will return.

For a excellent meal and outstanding service you could go no further. The staff are polite and incredibly helpful in explaining the different meals and ingredients used in each dish. The evening was worth every cent and the price was not unreasonable by any means.
