Lexpress French Fries
toasted rosemary herbs
moroccan spices, harissa, french fries
Escargots Bourguignonne classic style
I like L’Express very much for many reasons. The food is really good, it’s generally easy to get a table at almost any time (except weekend brunches, when a reservation is essential), the service is at least very good, and it’s in my neighborhood.
The noise level is a problem, due to loud music. Even when the restaurant isn’t full, diners have to speak loudly to be heard over the music. The combined noise spoils the dining experience. No bistro in France has music so loud, if at all. If it weren’t for this noise I’d give L’Express the top rating possible.
Not bad for a 24-hour venue, but I would not go here during what are usual business hours for most other bistros. Loud, OK kitchen, not all that clean, and not much decor. Dim lighting helps hide much. Terrific waiter, though.
Food was terrific and the outside dining cabins were lovely. Great vibe!
The host and our server were so nice and accommodating. The food was incredible. I can’t wait to return!
Always a fave, reliable, fun
As always food was good!
Our go to place for many years! Always a great experience and food is excellent. The duck is a favorite.
A most wonderful meal! The escargot were formidable, equal to the ones I had on my next to last dinner at L'Express. Lots of garlic! My wife and her brother, who was visiting from California, raved about the tuna tartar, and my brother-in-law's lamb shank (we all had a taste of it) was succulent. To end, the creme brulee was perfect.
A little hitch in the service mid-meal was more than made up for by glasses of complementary wine.
Dining at L'express was fine. To write comprehensive comments, I would obviously need to eat there several times, but I think I can still mention three main points based on our one-time experience: 1) the French bistro setting is quite pleasant, 2) the service is very good, but 3) our food was, overall, just ok. The escargots were very good, for instance, but the house-made lamb burger couldn't be more ordinary and was served with greatly undercooked French fries. Yet my biggest complaint has to do with the wine list. The lowest price for a bottle of red is $46, if I'm not mistaken. I think L'express (and many many other restaurants in NY, for that matter) should rethink their wine pricing, or should allow their patrons to bring their own bottle. I'm almost certain we could have bought that bottle for half that price (or less) in any local wine store, and I just don't see what can possibly justify a 100%+ profit margin, especially since restaurants buy directly from wine distributors at discounted volume prices.
Service was attentive and friendly. Short ribs and lamb shank were slightly overcooked and dry although the accompanying sauce helped. The baked brie app was good although a miserly one piece of bread was insufficient. We asked for the bread basket to accompany the cheese. The cocktails were well prepared and tasty. We heard the waitress mention that there was a new chef so perhaps they need a little time to iron out the kinks in the kitchen. Overall, good meal in good location.
Food was along time between courses with no explanation despite having been welcomed heartily when first seated.
Love the mussels. Have been looking forward to for a long time with my mussel buddy. Paired with a great Sancerre and excellent service. Magnifique!!
Very kind staff, helpful and quick, I highly recommend this place :)
The food was good but one dish (cassoulet) seemed a bit salty. Service was prompt and cheerful and accurate. We sat outside, and tables were well spaced, but it still felt pleasantly busy. L'Express is a good restaurant, a solid neighborhood presence.
Great space. Staff friendly. Food choices varied. Wish the apple tart had more dough. therwise everthing was delish.
Reliable French bistro with good food, reasonable wine list, and pleasant environment.
We ate outside so noise level depended on the street scene at any given moment but never too loud to converse. The weather was perfect, service was extremely friendly and welcoming. And food was delicious! A perfectly lovely evening with friends!
Love this place. It had been a while since my last visit and can’t wait to go there again. Food is always delicious, the staff is always great and the ambiance is just cozy. J'adore L'Express!!
As always, we had a very nice evening at L'Express. The new outside seating area was great and the service, food and wine were what we've come to expect.
Salmon was a bit “fishy.” Steak was yummy.
My sister and I came here for dinner. I had my dog with me and we sat outside. They brought him water and some dog treats. The food was simple and delicious. French bistro food. I had the braised short ribs. They were sublime and beyond fork tender. My sister had the roasted chicken and that will definitely be on my list to try next time. Service was amazing.
Great food & excellent service!
Lovely restaurant with great service. Ambiance perfect and excellent food. Will return again.
Generous portions even though it was restaurant week. Escargot and mussels were delicious. Service was attentive, definitely going back.
One of the best Restaurant Week menus of any restaurant, maybe ever! Both lunch courses consisted of terrific classic bistro dishes like pate, merguez and duck confit, in good portions, beautifully cooked and attractively plated. Service was friendly, professional, and excellent. Optional dessert choices were varied and delicious. Prices for beer, wine, and desserts were reasonable. And the sign of a great restaurant is great bread, and L'Express has it. I hadn't eaten here in ages and had forgotten how good L'Express is, but I will be back again often. It isn't Paris, but it may be the next best thing!
This restaurant is always a favorite of mine when I'm visiting NYC. I had only a week here this time and enjoyed two lunches during Restaurant Week. Friendly staff. Outdoor and indoor dining. Don't go there on your lunch hour unless you sit at the bar. Service was great but I know they were understaffed. Food is always delicious.
Overall, we had a very good meal. We ate outside, but it was comfortable and the service was good.
It was delicious! And the staff was very accommodating while we took our friend out to celebrate her graduation. Thank you!
The food is always good here and L'Express has been one of my go-tos for ages. I've brought many friends here, who always enjoy the experience.
We were a party of 4 and we ordered 4 different dishes for lunch. Each of the dishes was delicious and a fine example of French brasserie food. I was particularly impressed with the salad Nicoise. My husband also enjoyed a beef short rib. We will definitely be back.
Five us of enjoyed noting two birthdays at lunch. Everyone enjoyed their escargots, the grilled merguez, the moules mariniere and house made duck confit and would recommend them. We will return.
Restaurant Week -- menu was great. 2nd time here this RW. Salad is beautifully dressed. Mussels were fresh and delicious. Hot, crisp fries. Seared cod -- outstanding. Service yesterday was a bit lacking, but not a huge letdown. Just not as attentive as should be. It's a great rendition of what Restaurant Week is supposed to be!
Reliable. I love their salads and fries
Went there for NYC RW and was expecting to have the pre fix menu but apparently they don’t offer on weekends. Service wasn’t great we waited upward of 20 min to be checked on before receiving bill.
Good choice for French food during restaurant week.
Service was slow
It was great food. Just wished NYC restaurant week included the weekends.
Food was terrible. L’Express should close down. Just a lousy dining experience. Our steak was tougher than a hockey puck.
The food is always wonderful. Makes us feel like we are in Paris!
The food was amazing and the service was phenomenal , the noise level is extremely disturbing… not a good place for a date or deep conversation..
Feels like eating in a school cafeteria
